It would never survive a challenge. Pure stock-pumping speculation.

The article says the offer is for 400p a share. They're currently trading around 250p a share. This represents a 60% premium. Given that ARM is very close to its 52 week high, at 400p it's a no-brainer for the shareholders. And people say Microsoft is evil. =/

You mean antitrust? Agreed.

No-brainer for shareholders, maybe, but US regulatory agencies are supposed to act in support of taxpayers in general. If they do their jobs, this would never make it out of the gate.

A generous offer = evil?

Nope. The evil would be in the aftermath.

ARM is UK corporation, which would mean that the European Commission (anti-trust section) would have to approve the deal. ARM is so dominant in the mobile CPU market that Apple would really have to commit into keeping ARM licensing on fair basis.

Well Apple is definately more evil than microsoft. They criticize microsoft for having a monopoly and yet you can only develop apps that they approve of and their pcs can be run only on their proprietery hardware. At least microsoft lets you choose what hardware to buy. I am getting sick of apple. I hope google and micirosoft trump them.

Apple- unlike Microsoft- doesn't have monopoly/dominant market position. So you can just stop buying Apple products and your problem is solved.

Depends on what market you're referring to. The portable music player market is pretty much totally dominated by the iPod, there are lots of alternatives but in terms of numbers sold, theyre all also-rans. This has the knock-on effect that iTunes is pretty much the dominant channel for online music sales.

Obviously both would have to approve. Sorry I was being exclusive.

Microsoft built their empire on the backs of IBM's mistakes-- mistakes that led to a sort of "open source hardware" ecosystem that worked to our benefit. I'm betting Microsoft would have been happier closing it up. ;)

it would never get past EU regulations b/c it would give apple massive unfair advantage b/c they would know everything there competitors are planning
EU are very strict in recent times in acting for the interests of European firms v the NA ones

Like rauha said, you can just sidestep those and buy media player of a different brand and acquire your music not from iTunes.

MS has a different hold of the market; where you may have to buy in to their ecosystem to maintain interoperability with your employer, colleagues, customers, suppliers, family, etc.

C'mon tex, you know me better than that ;P

He came to that conclusion only based by the offer price, so I was asking for clarification.
