As I stated, I don't care about turn based navigation, other apps than mypaint or group contacts and custom ringtones for each or even portrait mode and flash 10. All I care about is that it works ok as a phone, cam, internet browser, and mini tablet for sketching (which has been my dream as well). And that those things are quick to run. (Hate waiting. grrr) I do get kind of worried when you say the music player starts playing after a call ends. Or do you mean that it does that only if it was playing before the call came? Another thing I was curious about is how much battery Mypaint consumes? |

Hi!
@outdoors .. to me N900 is essential because of MyPaint, I am also happy with web browser, email, skype, messaging. But what comes about phone there is much better alternatives.. really. I am not using phone function that much.. so N900 fits me just fine. Nokia N900 is not toy for me... it is very serious tool right now. Only minus is weak battery performance. And I really hope that there is coming something new from Nokia which will offer some sort of pressure sensitivity technology to keep artistic people happy. (bit more memory please... and maybe bit faster processor) I am not so impressed multi touch things.. it is handy for some functions but I do not get this funny boom of finger(..g).. I prefer proper stylus and physical keyboard.. not finger acrobating. @slaxe ... I hope that you will continue doodling... pen and paper is also good, really. @woorm .. I like your arty works there.. especially those colorful stuff.. keep going. Ok.. Scrap from me.. Tone |
Re: Look what I drew on my phone
Thinking that the N9 (I mean the next Meego device) will probably have a capacitive screen and will be unable to produce such artwork makes me so sad, since I plan on getting one (but we'll see)... :/
Just an example of a drawig of somebody on a capacitive screen: http://a.imageshack.us/img828/6291/capac.jpg (he even said he did his best since it was for his girlfriend..) ok probably the app sucked, but the precision is unexistant... anyway, keep on with your drawings and sorry for the OT... |

Who knows though, maybe I'm just old fashioned and only think pencil and paper's the best starting point because that's the way I did it. |

.. but I think that nowadays digital is also good way to learn and it is faster, cheaper and more convenient method.. eg. working with colors is much easier.. it is of course very much different thing to mix colors digitally than different traditional mediums. I still recommended to learn traditional natural mediums if it is possible. Computer, medium size A5+ pressure sensitivity tablet and (free) MyPaint / (cheap) ArtRage is just good way to start learning. Studying... perspective, composition, color theory, anatomy.. etc.. is important if you aim to be better. Only way to learning to draw and paint is just doing it as much as possible, anything what you dare.. everyday! Nokia N900 and MyPaint is quite good but I still recommend to something bigger... when drawing area is big you can use your arm more and not your wrist. There is couple benefit to use small device like N900 with MyPaint. 1. It is so easy to check composition at "thumbnail" size work... if picture looks good in small scale it will mostly look good in big scale. 2. It is always with me! 3. You can work easily in the dark! btw. Andrew Loomis and George Bridgmans books are very good... Just draw and learn to look... :) Tone aka Creativetone aka Luovatone |
