Never has so few wanted so much by something so little. I do hope the 1.2 update is what all the die hards want.

I can't help but read these forums and think "Crunch time." for the N900.

I asked twice on blog.ovi.com about Ovi Maps with voice navigation on N900, and both times a Nokia employee answered the Ovi Maps team is working on this and will be available someday, just didn't say any estimated date, but that is usual among Nokia and understandable. I was skeptical before but now I believe Ovi Maps will have proper navigation on N900, just think will take at least a couple of months, if not more...

i know how you feel but i am happy with what i have for now so cant complain too much. As soon as Fmms is out of testing i will be more than happy for the time being.

Hoping this happens soon! While Maps is lacking features the offline maps are great and I would be happy if it simply showed the correct location. But it doesn't, the GPS location is hundreds of meters off in Hong Kong, China, and Macau. From what I gather its fine for other countries.

Maybe related to China's gps/mapping regulations that supposedly require digital maps to include offsets that are then corrected by approved devices. But Hong Kong should not be included in this nonsense. Could never get a straight answer out of any map providers concerning this, though they will gladly sell you unusable maps. :mad:

most shops pre-sell at $5088. i don't hear anything about "gift". imported n900 is selling at $40xx at yahoo auction.

Sweet, this will give Chinese simplified and traditional handwriting recognition. Is this free for non Hong Kong N900 users? Anyone installed it yet?

I absolutely agree. The maps and gps on my good ol' N82 work just fine. I hope Nokia's Maemo team is talking to their S60 counterparts to sort things out.
It's just ironic that even Google, who doesn't want to do business in China anymore, got the Chinese satellite images mapped correctly.

I tried, it didn't work when I click on the link to install(file missing). It looks like it's just a webpage for the future use.

Interestingly, the link is in extra-devel

And they clearly said the program will check IMEI code, and only work for phones sold in China, Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan. (I'm in the US.)

Will try it again after the hongkong release.

There probably won't be any seperate Symbian and seperate Noka Maemo/Meego Ovi Maps anymore once the QT compatibility is established across the platforms.

That mean, if HK has PR1.2 included, it was ready and stable at least few days before for packing/transportation. We wait just either for the marketing reasons, or HK version would be completely different (we know it is (radio stuff)) so it could receive own updates. The entire world would be waiting for common pr1.2 update. Dev was focused on getting HKPR1.2= HKPR1.0 done for the sales/marketing reasons. Not they are switching to common version after release celebration. Next week guys....

As it's been said so many times before, PR 1.2 has been ready for a long time already. That's another story why Nokia is pending it.
