Re: imei number
IMEI tracking is not an issue.
But IMEI can be blocked after it is stolen and that undermines the market for stolen phones. There is no incentive to still N900 if it can't be used after that. Car's VIN number services exactly this - after it introduction and verification during car registration the car steeling is useless. (Besides disassembling on parts, of course). |

sebastian_ua96 needs to read the previous posts and realise he simply cannot get the answers he wants as it is illegal to post such advice and should simply stop asking for information on how to change emei. |

I would also like if there would be any mechanizm to block stolen cameras and camcorders, mp3 players, bags etc. |
Re: imei number
I'm not saying that it is all ok to share this kind of information on Maemo Talk forums (and, I'm not saying that it is not ok. It depends on personal opinions of moderators and location of TMO server). Just trying to make it clear for everyone: If somebody wants to change IMEI number, it is nothing about theft, so you can't accuse him with that.
Yes, you're right about you can block GSM features of the device, but if you lost your device and there's no way to get it back, is it really important? Even if you use IMEI number to block GSM, thief will find "someone with enough knowledge and hardware" and he'll get away with your device easily. Anyway, I don't think it is constructive to discuss about legal or moral parts of it, I care about technical information. And It seems it is not possible to get it here, and I don't have enough motives to get it from another source :) (I was lucky enough to get my device registered, with passport of my friend.) Maybe this site can help, I didn't tried but It seems they are already flashing other Nxx series devices with their own software and it is possible to change IMEI number: gsmhosting.com |

This site is not purposed to support illegal activities. Please don't try to reshape it into one. |

I didn't say anything illegal, or supported anything :) And reshaping TMO to an illegal site is not one of my top priorities now. PS: Time to whine more about PR1.2 :P |
Re: imei number
I may have misunderstood your statements Aranel. If so, I apologize.

Such countries should therefore do as much as possible to combat mobile device theft instead of making it difficult for their own nationals to legally own a mobile device as this will obviously be one of the reasons such people want to change emei. |
