Reflashing the N900

I have windows Xp system. so I entered the page of downloading flasher. and I downloaded "maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe" on my laptop.
After that I entered the page of downloading firmware and I don't know what I should download since there are many items.
is the downloaded "maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe" is the right one? and what I should choose for the firmware?
once you will help me by these questions, i will continue and i will ask you again for any problem i face when i will make reflashing for my N900 :) thanks a lot for you.

Re: Reflashing the N900

"fw" meens firmware.
"exe" is for windows and thats an executeable.
".gz-.zip" thats compressed files.
".deb" is Debian, the one with the red swirl.
".dmg" is for Diablo
You have to use the .exe flasher thats for windows xp 32bit.
About the firmware "fw" you have to find out wich one you are running on your phone. That can be done with the first link in the thread i pointed you to in my first post (thats the one where you type your imei no.) You can find it here if your device still works: field IMEI in Settings > General > About Product :)

Ps: somebody correct me if i'm wrong :)

e: The FW only comes in .bin files and shoud contain to images when unpacked. One for root and one for emmc. So the question for you about the FW is only what FW are you running?

Re: Reflashing the N900

"deb" comes from debian, but maemo uses the deb format, so it's best to say it's an installable package rather than something from debian.

Isn't dmg the extension used by Mac OS X packages?

Stand corrected :D

I misread the .dmg thing it is for mac os x and yes did leave out the part about debian package i thourght it wouldn't be importan in this situation :)

Thanks for the info Patola ;)

about the frirmware, i think this one is the compatible for me "RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin"
Latest Maemo 5 Middle East and North Africa release for Nokia N900. isn't it? I am in the Middle East.
now i think I can start reflashing my N900. do you think the same?
sorry for disturbance and i will disturb you later. :)
thanks a lot for your help

I tried it but i failed:confused:
I installed the flasher and the firmware as discussed before.
I went to run and wrote cmd, after that the command windows appeared.
there was :C:\ Documents and Settings\Ali Harmouche>
I wrote after that C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher3.5 , nothing happened and I received this message:C:\Program is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
After that I tried C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin -f -R
but I received the same message.
Please advice.

You need to do it like this ;)

* Download and install the latest version of Flasher (e.g. maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe).
* Download the latest firmware (.bin) file and save to ‘c:Program Filesmaemoflasher-3.5’
* Fully charge the battery.
* Unplug charger and switch off the device.
* Open the command prompt on XP. Start + Run. Type cmd and press Enter.
* Change directory to the flasher program

cd "c:Program Filesmaemoflasher-3.5"

(Did you remember the "cd" infront of the path otherwise it wont change directory and you need to write the exact path to where you put the flasher-3.5.exe).

* Connect the USB cable while pressing ‘u’ key on the N900 (The detailed procedure of connecting the N900 is here).
1. Turn off Maemo device
2. Press and hold down key ‘u’
3. Connect USB cable between Maemo device and host PC while holding down key ‘u’
4. When USB cable gets connected it powers Maemo device and set’s it to flashing mode
5. When USB icon appears on right upper corner Maemo device is in flashing mode
6. You can release key ‘u’
* Run the following command:

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

(The code should be in one line)

The update will take about 4 minutes after which the N900 will reboot and display the Welcome screen with Regional settings.

Hope this helps ;)

I am doing it right now. I wrote "cd C:/program files/maemo/flasher-3.5" so the command bar changed to c:/programe files/maemo/flasher-3.5>"
now what should i write? should i repeat again flaser-3.5.exe or what?
please tell me exactly what i should wrote.
my firmware name is :"RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM"

please help

If you are that vague it's basically impossible to help... Please replace "something" and "another thing" in your sentence and, even more important, be exact...

It sounds like you only reflashed the firmware not emmc.

If you want to do that just follow this instructions:

Download the Vanilla eMMC image (.bin file) from here:
http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
“RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin”

Then do this:

The first few steps are identical to the way you would flash the firmware.

* Open the Command Prompt by going to Start then Run and type cmd, then press Enter.

* Change directory to the flasher’s program path by entering:

cd "C:\ProgramFiles\maemo\flasher-3.5"

* Connect the USB cable while holding the ‘u’ key on the N900. Within an instant you will see a USB icon on the top right corner of the N900. Now leave the ‘u’ key.

* Execute the following command:

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
(the same here one code line)

and that should do the trick for you ;)

The emmc is your 32gb masstorage.

NOTE: Always flash the FIASCO image first, then the eMMC image immediately after that. Never boot up the device between flashing the FIASCO image and the eMMC image!

Please advice about this note.

You should be able to just flash the emmc now, but if you want to be safe flash both images as you noted in your post above :)

Well you can just flash the fiasco one again and without booting flash the emmc one right after :)

Fiasco is the firmware and vanilla is emmc.

First one will give you a new firmware and the second will give you a clean storage (emmc)

I know you allready have the new firmware but you are a bit worrid about doing it wrong then i suggest that you start over again hence the post i made earlier ;)
