Re: [Announce] Macuco(2) on n900 - "iphone faker" browser

I like Macuco too, but in my experience I can't use it for more than a minute or two at a time, until I click on some link and it throws up a "dialog" at the bottom of the screen saying "link error" and "undefined" with a "retry" button. Sometimes the dialog stays up so I can actually press the button, most often it just pops in and out, either way the app goes "poof" and I'm back to the desktop.

Am I doing something wrong ?...

is there any way to change the default browser to iPad as well, it could be useful considering there is a new Gmail "Web App" for it.

I just tried but it won't work as it is. In order to scroll vertically the panels google is relying on gestures. Macuco can't emulate them (yet?).

I need to figure out (or somebody else can help me?) how to fake trigger the webkit gesture events. If possible would allow the n900 to behave exactly like the iphone browser minus the "pinch" gesture.

The version of Macuco that for Diablo does not work for me - it starts up ok but it is not able to log in to gmail, voice, etc.

Any chance of having this version looked at as well?

perfect, thanks for the info. Works like a charm!
Macuco seems a bit fickle about registering a click (so basically you have to use your nail for macuco to register a click) where as the inbuilt browser is more lenient.

I am glad you said that. I struggle with it but because nobody had said anything (yet) I thought it could be a problem with me or my n900. That is the top one on my list.

I tried downloading but it said
"Unable to Install. Conflicting application packages".
i go to look at the details and it states:
'Conflict with application packages: libqt4-maemo5 (4.6.2-git20100203-0maemo1)

Im a novice on mameo and linux programming so i havent got a clue what i need to do to correct this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

At some point you installed a qt app from devel that updated your version of qt on your device you need to get ride of that but since libs don't show up in app manager you need to do it in command line.

fcrochik to solve peoples problem and since this is in devel anyways how about making this work with the current version of qt in devel that way people who have it will be able to go ahead and use this. You will need to do it once Pr 1.2 comes out anyways. Unless I'm wrong about what is causing the error they are getting.

Andrew,
You are right once PR1.2 is out I will have to compile it again. I could publish a different version using qt4.5 but it will not be the same and may end up causing even more confusion... I keep delaying it hoping that we will get the pr1.2 soon.

Re: [Announce] Macuco(2) on n900 - "iphone faker" browser

New version available on repository.

Fixes/Improvements:
  • replaced error message with "native" information banner with underline error message (the retry button was removed)
  • CTR+O: 100% zoom
  • CTR+I: adjust zoom factor to match iphone native resolution
  • mp3, mp4 files are opened on mediaplayer (for now application is only checking for the file extension - I have yet to figure out how to use the mime extension and check for the default application to handle each type and/or allow the user to pick the application that should handle each file type)
  • better scrolling and handling of mouse clicks

Please let me know of any file formats that you would like to see handled by external applications and any web sites that work well (or not) with macuco.

Thanks

Since I know you've mentioned that you'd work on an upgraded Diablo version could you please state what OS an update is for?

I have just replaced the macuco "homepage" with one that looks a little bit better and it is dynamic. I have a long list of links to add to it but haven't had the time yet...

There is no application update. The change is just to the hosted web page.

Check it out and let me know how it works for you.

Re: [Announce] Macuco(2) on n900 - "iphone faker" browser

PR1.2 Compatible

To celebrate the PR1.2 arrival and fix the qt dependencies I just release a new version of macuco2.

Other than using the new libraries it got a big revamp. The scrolling is much smoother and clicking the links much easier among other fixes. This new version also supports "auto rotation" and opening links on a "new window".

Not long go I replaced the "home page" with a much nicer one and more links.

Make sure to leave your thanks or comments so I know this package is useful to you and worth working on it.

It seems that it is an issue with either the web site "remembering" the user and/or with the application trying to use the "word completion". Try retyping the email (even if it looks right) and the password regardless of how many "dots" you see.

I will investigate further but it just worked for me.

I agree.... I can't say for sure but I think it is something that has changed with PR1.2.

I tried to look for a way to disable it but because this thread and the test voting was not getting any hits I did not spend much time on it - I assumed people had found a replacement for it and there was not need to continue its development

Just installed this app due to a rekindled thread and I must say, liking the native resolution for the Facebook iPhone client - nice, fast, slick. Smoother than MicoB - Nice one dev, good work fella

This application was originally created to handle google mail... I have to say that I still think is the best/quickest way to access gmail accounts but the issue with the "word complete" makes it very annoying to use.

If I get enough feedback from the community that this is a project worth continuing I will look into fixing it...

fcrochik 2010-07-14 15:42

Re: [Announce] Macuco(2) on n900 - "iphone faker" browser

Because of the lack of votes on the "testing package" I assumed this package was not anymore useful/needed.

Just added a poll to try to figure out if I should spend any more time on this application.

Regardless, thank you all for the feedback and support so far.

EDIT: did not review the poll options before publishing... does anybody know how to fix them?

I really think that it's not getting any votes because it's currently unusable for so many people with the login/password issue.

I had used this app a while ago on my n810, but I've never been able to successfully authenticate with this app on the n900.

Please if you use this, take the time to email a few sites that force you to use this program and ask them to make a web site that will work on mobile devices without forcing you to fake being an iphone.

Who to blame? If Nokia did not do its job, sure iphone should be their favorite!

i like this program but for example in facebook sometimes i can't scroll all the way down it stops at the middle of the page. The other issue is the autocomplete enabled in the password field.

I was waiting for a fix... will there be one?

I can't promise when but I would like to take another stab at it.
I am counting on the feedback on this thread/poll to figure out what to do.

Re: [Announce] Macuco(2) on n900 - "iphone faker" browser

Just an (useless) update:
I tried to compile the code with the new Qt version (experimental 4.7) and it actually seems to solve the "autocomplete" issue by itself.... The bad news is that it created some other problems.

At this point I will just have to wait for qt4.7 to become official and adjust the code to work with it.
