I'm actually more excited for the MeeGo release with a UI/UX than I am PR1.2 for Maemo. MeeGo has me pretty hyped. |

Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I'll assume this is a genuine post and bite... so welcome to the forum prakashgalaxy.
A general hint regarding forum use and asking for help that is not related to the thread you are posting in (this one) is to search the forum first, or start a new thread. You cannot have these widgets, unless they can be downloaded from the "Downloads" section here, or from "Apps" on your phone, or from "Ovi Store". What you can do however is have web page shortcuts to the exact information page you want and a FULL web page will open, with Flash and javascript running showing you what you need in full, not cut down detail. N900 does not need nearly as many apps, widgets, whatnot since it allows entire web page content to display correctly. Other phones cannot do that, and for that and some other reasons, they rely on apps to can the information and present it in a way they can handle. V. |

The best advice I can give you is just add more repositories to you application manager. Search on this forum and you can find out more about each one, that will also aware you if you want to play with experimental software. Avoid subjects with 1.2 on this forum or at least read them intently (don't try it at home :)) and enjoy your device! |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I have been using my N900 for about 4 months now... I'm very happy and enjoy my device.
Would expect to see more development and features with firmware upgrade and new applications. Patiently waiting... waiting.. and waiting for PR 1.2... lol |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
Best gadget I have ever owned since (In order of time) Casio pocket computer, Atari Lynx, Casio pocket tv, HP28s and sony minidisc player. Altogether one of the legends.
I love it, the phone has let me down few times (earpiece hardware bug - twice), time to time it lags a bit, it eats battery but besides all that it is just awesome. I think for the most I am love with the potential. Python/PythonQT, now QT Creator. I _COULD_ do anything with this! If I ever needed to. |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I'm completely infatuated with my n900, happy to transition from years of using blackberrys.
The only frustration is with the woeful battery life, and the fact my collection of external universal batteries are useless. I've ordered one of the usb cable adaptors that was suggested to get around the issue so I'm hoping this one will soon be resolved. Other than that its been a month long honeymoon so far. |

I knew what I wanted the phone for; in fact I've been waiting for something like this since I got my first Zaurus about 5 years ago. Finally, thanks to qole, I have just what I need. |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I am very happy with the Nokia N900. The reason why I bought it: it has (can do) everything I need (want it to do).
Those who sell it because they "don't like it" are doing it because they didn't need it in the first place. They should be more careful spending so much money on something that they don't need. However, I understand those people who sell it because it didn't work anymore or who were experiencing some nasty bugs. Mine works great and I'll keep until it doesn't work anymore. |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
N900 is not opensource
It's just Linux based Anyways, I really love this phone. Just hate the way nokia is supporting this device |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I wanted python and i got python. I wanted linux and i got linux. So I'm happy with the n900.

Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I have said this many a times on this forum. I have had alot of phones in my time but this is the greatest. The possibilities are endless as long as you can think of them.
Im not sure i could own a diffrent phone now. For starters imagine not being able to listen to music and surf the net at the same time (while at bus stop or something). or play your favourite megadrive game while waiting for your girlfreind to turn up whicl listening to music and downloading the movie your just bout to watch. I used to use my pc at home every single day since i have had my phone there is no point sitting at my computer when i can just go anyware and do all the same things (even compile my latest project and do sum quick bug checking). |
Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
Another happy N900 user here, no serious problems :)

Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I am waiting now for new android phones like the htc evo hopefully they will continue driving prices down, then when the moment is right I hopefully will be able to strike and pick one of these n900's up on the cheap (like under $200). I think I know enough now to know I would be happy but would need the mungen big *** battery too. well as this really doesn't pertain to the thread title I'll exit stage left before I get flamed.

Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
Was messin' around with an iPhone a little and it just reminded me how glad I am I've got this N900 I had to chip in to this thread.
Came to this from Android. Ditching Android is the best decision I've made in a long time. The Maemo UI is soooo good I really hope MeeGo's 'default' UI is very similar. Now I get everything done far faster than I ever could on Android no matter how I customized and re-arranged things. And last night with that iPhone was an exercise in frustration. I hope I don't drop this thing 'cause going back to my backup old Android and a capacitive screen would be painful. N900 is a terrific gadget, really been worth the money. |

To be able to answer your questions somewhat, I just opened my maemo5 menu, found the OpenOffice icon there, and clicked it. It opens OOo directly without opening a new windows manager. To open OpenOffice took somewhere between 70 and 75 seconds, I clocked it. I also opened the "open file" dialog, which I didn't clock, but it took about 25 seconds. So, while not snappy (it is after all desktop software) it is more usable than one might suspect. Edit: test done on a not recently rebooted N900, with not very much free rootfs space, and not overclocked CPU. |

Re: I am a happy owner of N900!
I got my N900 for christmas: a great device, but of course not perfect. With PR1.2 I expect is to really shine (video calling!). The only thing I really miss at the moment is IMAP IDLE support (i.e. push mail for IMAP).
