Please read the Overclocking Wiki. You are taking your life in your hands if you don't. (Well, an exaggeration, but still...) There is a kernel document that tells you exactly how to set the limits.

It's amazing how many people are willing to risk their N900s because they don't want to read comparatively short simple and well-written documents.

thanx dude

Why would a person who fried his N900 would be still in this site unless he didn't buy another N900.

So don't expect much to find failed examples here.

dbl2010: My assumption is that while humans may tend towards selfishness in at least some ways, at least some portion of the N900 owning demographic would be happy to offer their CPU-dead N900's for spare parts or whatever else to someone else on this site. I know I'd probably still stick around if I fried my N900, and offer it to others if they wanted it for spare parts (though I'd probably buy a second N900, so it's possible I'd keep the one I had for parts... *shrug* depends on how likely I though I'd need any of the spare parts for the second one). But if I didn't plan on buying another one it's all the more likely that I'd offer this one up here, because that's just more in line with my ethics than not doing anything with it or tossing it or whatever.

:)

Bump, any burnt out N900s?

Hey Jaakiman,

Which wireless router are you connected with? Any special settings on the router? DD-WRT firmware?

Thanks

Mine says something like "hardware failure shutdown in 10 seconds" sometimes when it's starting up. I have to turn it on and off and it's fine. I don't really think it's from overclocking though, as it's pretty stable @ 850.

Any dead N900s yet? This is a bump.

No.No.No.No.

Edit:

Why don't you just watch the Overclocking thread? If one is lost, it will be reported there.

Re: Has anyone overclocked their CPU to death yet?

I'd like to score a burned out N900 for spares, mainly LEGIT housing parts, not the cheap cloned plastic junk on ebay.

But, from my experiences, the little thing is pretty resilient. I've had NO issues - EVER - running mine every single day with a 250MHz lower / 1150MHz upper threshold, slightly volt tweaked (250:26 up to 1150:70), smartreflex off, ignore nice load on, up_threshold at 80 and the sampling rate turned up to 200000.

Very fast clock scaling, very fast sampling, saves a good deal of battery... plus it barely ever gets warm (only when charging).

So, to sum it up, good luck seeing a dead N900 for salvage that was made dead by overclocking alone. You'd have to do a lot more to kill it.
