Now at least receiving seems to work, though I'm not sure about sending. The phone thinks the message was sent OK, but at least now it hasn't arrived with my friend.

Hi Frals,
Since i upgraded to version 1.3.3 i have been having the following problem, i am able to send an mms but it's not being received on the other end. i had the same problem with version 1.3.0 but it was because in /var/lib/gconf/apps/fmms/\%gconf.xml my phonenumber was set to "0" i have checked that and it seems to be fine. i have uploaded a few files, i would really appreciate your help to resolve this.

thanks carlon

fMMS, from the first version to the latest has *never*, and let me repeat, *never* worked on my N900 and I've tried every combination of settings suggested for T-Mobile USA on http://wiki.maemo.org/MMS_configurations#United_States.

I just tried downloading a test MMS sent by T-Mobile USA and I got the proverbial "Operation failed".

The log is attached.

If anyone can tell me what the problem is I'd be infinitely grateful.

I'm having issues lately too with T-Mo. It has worked fine before but the latest update screwed it up somehow. I keep getting operation failed as well.

I tried many so many things, but after reflash it does not work anymore. I copied all MMS-es and probably settings too.

If I want to send an MMS I get error:

Operation failed
13, Permission denied

How did you copy them? I'm guessing 'user' doesn't have read/write access to /home/user/.fmms

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I copied whole map \user\.fmms

And I have old MMS-es, but it is not working for new one...

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Can someone post the config files of fmms for comparison please? my mms are being marked as sent, the log shows message sent aok and i'm being charged for the mms but its just not being received on the other end, however i can receive mms. The last time this happened to me it was because the phone number value was set to 0 in the var/lib/gconf_apps/fmms/%gconf.xml. any help would be appreciated.

@jdb2, i took a look at the out put you posted and in fmms.gconf.xml on the <entry name="phonenumber" mtime="1264706566" type="string">
<stringvalue>000</stringvalue>

if i am not mistaken the stringvalue should have your phonenumber (+xxx xxx xxxx) and not 000

why don't you try doing a fresh install,
apt-get remove --purge fmms
reboot
apt-get install fmms
it should automatically fetch your network settings, if not enter them manually, use small picture setting and havoc mode.

make sure that you double check your fmms gconf.xml
vim /var/lib/gconf/apps/fmms/\%gconf.xml
use i to edit, and
esc + wq! to save and quit
you may need to install vim if you dont already have it(apt-get install vim)

Did you make sure user has read/write access to the folder? What does it say in /tmp/fmms.log when you try to send?

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I am pretty sure that user does not have permission.

But I need to know where should I give permisson? Which folders?

PS: I had the same problem with evilalarm and resoved it (root was the owner instead of user)

Hi everybody!! Sorry for my bad english.

since i installed fmms i didn't managed to send or receive mms.
I use Bouygues Telecom in France, i check 100times my conf.
I've read the pages before but they don't help me to solve the problem.

I tried to use gconf editor to edit my number since i saw it was 0 in %gconf.xml but when i save and quit, if i go back to chek it there is the 0 in place of my number.

And when i tried to send a mms i've a message like that even if i resize the picture with the smaller option.

MMSC: 200_OK
BODY: {'Transaction-Id': 'xxxxxx', 'Message-ID':
'xxxxxxxxxxx@w.mms.bouyguestelecom.fr', 'MMS-
Version': '1.0', 'Message-Type': 'm-send-conf', 'Response-
Status': 'Error-sendind-address-unresolved'}

Thank for helping.

This is setting :
MMSC : http://mms.bouygtel.com
Proxy HTTP : 62.201.129.226

Mode réseau : Poli (French Translation by N900)

And check you are using this connection, not wifi when sending.

Looking at the log, it seems that the python that handles the decoding and viewing of the message is crashing :

Hi, I'm running out of ideas, the icon in the status area is because it set to havoc mode. Are you using a separate setting for MMS as opposed to your 3g/gsm browser settings. If you don't mind post your 3g/gsm config and the config that you use in the fmms app.

Strange. I've had it set to havoc mode before and I've never seen that icon.

Not that I know of.

It should always appear when fMMS sets up the connection. What version are you running? (App menu -> About)

The reason the decoder seems to be crashing is because the MMSC reports the file size of the message as: Content-Length: 46 which usually means it's not really an MMS that was downloaded.

Your settings seems more or less ok, you can try to start from scratch by going to the app menu and press "Reset all settings" and then restarting the application.

@mihapodb: chown -R user:users /home/user/.fmms

@carlon: /tmp/fmms.log

@nnccii: Not implemented yet

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

fMMS works very well, thank you! I use AT&T, and the settings provided on the wiki just worked. After testing in polite mode, I switched to Havoc mode, which worked precisely as advertised.

I just posted a feature request to bugzilla, about having an "MMS" option for contacts and contact shortcuts, just as they currently have an "SMS" option: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12028

Hi,
@ jdb2. As far as i can tell everything looks fine however i'm far from being an expert on the topic, what i have suggested to you in the past are methods i have used to get my fmms working, but as i pointed out previously, since i upgraded to ver 1.3.3 i have not been able to successfully send and mms. Sorry that i couldn't not have been more helpful.

@Frals. I attached the log file that you suggested, if you need anything else just ask. I appreciate the help. Let me just briefly explain the problem; i can receive mms just fine, but when i try to send it's not being received by the recipient although the mms is being discounted from my mobile plan. this happen before with ver 1.3.0 but it because my phone number was set to 0 in the var/lib/gconf/apps/fmms/\%gconf.xml file.

Thanks again

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Well, *for the first time*, fMMS works on my N900! :D Thanks Frals! :) All I had to do after resetting the settings was clear the user name and password and set the mode to havoc. I then used one of those "free" Internet sites which send MMS to a specified number and provider with text and optional attachment and it worked! :)

I don't know why all those other MMS I received appeared to contain no bodies even though there were image files in the subjects and even stranger why T-Mobile's own test MMS appeared to contain no body. They are all old -- I don't know if that has something to do with it. Also, excepting the test message, they were all sent via AT&T.

Keep up the good work! :)

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Carlon, I was having the same issue as you are and decided to try different settings. I looked up the settings for non tmobile phones and found these and they worked.

The bold is what I put in, but if it doesn't work you can try the other wap settings.

Quote:

Alternate between these different APN settings and see if any of them fix your problem:

APN: wap.voicestream.com or epc.tmobile.com or wap.tmobile.com

and double check that you have these other settings in the right place:

Username: leave this blank
Password:leave this blank
MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy 216.155.165.50
Port Nmber: 8080
MMS UA Prof URL:leave this blank
only change what applies to you and clear the user name and password. I then closed the application after I saved the settings, and then started it back up. Worked just fine after that. I had an old mms in my inbox but I assume it was too old to retrieve, but the one I got today loaded just fine and faster than normal I think.

Best of Luck.

thanks a bunch Ali, i'll try it and let you know. One question though, in your /var/lib/gconf/apps/fmms/\%gconf.xml file, scroll down to the part that says <entry name="phone number" etc, just below it says <stringvalue> is the value 0 or it it your phone number, and if its your phone number what format is it in eg. +(country code) xxx-xxxx or just (country code) xxx-xxxx?

OK you may need to install a few things if they you don't already have them installed, but don't worry its completely safe;

1. Open the application manager and install rootsh, this is to gain access to the root files on your n900

2. Also install Vim, this is a file editor

3. When these have been installed open the app called x-terminal, you should see a prompt something like this $

4. type: sudo gainroot (this is to access the root, you should see /home/user # )

5. type vim /var/lib/gconf/apps/fmms/\%gconf.xml (that should access the file in question, scroll down and look for the entry in my previous post)

6. to exit the file: tap Esc then :q!

7. you should go back to /home/user #

8. type exit and then close the app.
