Why aren't there any Twitter widgets?
 

With the popularity of Twitter, I find it strange that I could only find 1 twitter widget which was at a very basic stage of development (can't even remember what it was but it took up half the screen and kept showing me old messages).

I see people creating Twitter web apps and dedicated apps, but to me that seems pointless as I would think twitter works well in an "at-a -glance" type format. ie. I don't want to have to load a webpage, or have an app running constantly. A widget on the desktop just like the Facebook one seems like it would work well?

Anyone know of anything in the works?

the widgets world is in a sad place: we are moving to QT, but fremantle (and diablo) expect Gtk.

i think there is a compatibility layer coming in pr 1.2 so we can do widgets in QT for fremantle (what about diablo?)

so some of us are waiting for pr1.2 to put an effort on such things

Did you mean makau (or mauku?) It works. After the startup, it will start showing the messages you'd normally see on the website, until it gets to the current ones. Then you'll get the normal updates.

nah i've got mauku as well, but it's an app that I have to leave open all the time which I would prefer not to do.

I'd use it more if it could notify me with sound to new tweets.

It is sad that there aren't many widgets available. That was always on of the selling points for me for this phone (and the N97 I had previously). Even with the N97, I couldn't find any decent widgets out there.

Use an rss feed of the twittering you are interested in.

I don't see any point in Twitter and its popularity amazes me.
So, I am not surprised no one is working on Twitter widget.

I didn't actually know I could do that. Cheers.....except, now I can't seem to add the feeds I want (address invalid?). More research into this is required I reckon :)

So if I understand you correctly, you acknowlege that twitter is very popular, and yet are unsurprised there is no twitter widget?

Or are you saying that people are unlikely to make a widget because *you* find it pointless?
