Thanks mate. Never did find the blue grid-icon in Panels, but I will keep looking. Maybe it was a hiccup. I've thot about installing Telescope but maybe I'm just being an old fart set in his ways, lol. For now I went back to trusty old Frediablo, but I'm excited to see Diablo5/OS2008 come thru. I wish I had patience to draw on the computer, I'd love to theme or just help.

Great stuff all, exciting theme, looking forward to breaking my old habits and living without minimize/hardware minimize, lol.

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

I didn't have time to read through the whole thread, but I ran into a strange issue where the theme completely disabled my application switcher key. I'm not sure why, but I'm positive the theme somehow interacted with something to cause it to stop working (I installed/uninstalled the theme several times, checking the hardware button before and after. Curiously, the hardware application switcher button didn't work even when the theme was not applied and simply installed.)

EDIT: on an N810, in case that makes a difference

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

Can I just say that you should install telescope regardless of the theme you use.

It is such an improvement over the standard Diablo task switcher, that I'd be tempted to suggest that it be included in a future community SSU update. It is that good. thread is here.

It can be launched by hitting the hardware task switch button (top of the 2 button on the left edge of the N810, or the home button on the N800).

You can minimize all windows and return to the desktop, by clicking on the empty space around the windows.

Only 2 issues I have found with it currently, are that notifications are a little wayward, there is a post on how to add the notifier to the status bar, but I cannot find at the minute, but it works for me. Mauku occasionally crashed, which it never did before

Telescope will work with any theme. to get back on topic though, diablo5 works best with telescope installed. they are both great packages. Give them a good go.

there is an updated version of the theme due out, which looks to resolve most of the current bugs.

To find the blue-grid icon in panels do this:
>System>Control Panel>Panels
Now scroll down until you see it. I think you can have six active icons before you have the blue-grid icon.

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

Firstly, thanks a LOT, Kroll, for making such a great theme and being so responsive with bug fixes. It's what truly makes OSS awesome.

Second, I had a couple questions about the theme layout. If the blue grid icon for the menu is supposed to be to the far left of the tray, shouldn't the "overflow" icon (the blue arrow) appear on the right? Otherwise, the app menu gets pushed out of the tray when you have bluetooth or something else that adds an extra icon. Also, if the above is possible, would you be able to make the tray left-justified instead of the current setup? Sorry if any of that is confusing, and thanks for reading through all this in any case. Keep up the good work!

The first post says that you can move menu icon in Control Panel → Panels. Blue arrow shows that you are using more then 7 applets (you can place only 7 applets if you want to have only one line of applets in the statusbar).

left-justified
I do want to make it left-justified! But it is hildon... I don't know how to do it. The only thing I can do is to make it more narrow... Sorry :(

Thanks for feedback!

Hey, no problem at all. Like I said, I already greatly appreciate your efforts. It's still a vast improvement over the giant task-switching bar eating 1/8 of the screen!

Kroll 2010-05-21 21:54

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

80 pixels. 1/10 of the screen. But it will be like it is as long as Mitrandir will not make one thing for this theme...
It will be fixed it in the next version... hehe :)

(But tomorrow we will all three go to the local farmer's market and hang out in the sun :D )

Speaking of...once you get Diablo5 to a point where you put it into Extras you should create a real Annouce-post for it under your name so you a) get the thanks you so deserve and b) can edit post 1 :)

I tried PMing Reggie to see if he could change post 1 over to you but haven't heard anything so I guess that's a no-go.

So has anyone had their desktop reset on them? And lose their task launcher since the status bar goes back to default?

Is there a way to avoid this?

Edit: Personal Launcher seems to be one solution.

Do you use something like statusbar clock? If yes then remove it 'cause it is sooooooo buggy. It crashes hildon a few times per day...

Frank Banul 2010-05-22 21:42

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

My crashes are pretty rare. But recovering was a challenge, luckily I had Tear open and I could click on an install file to bring up App Manager. From there, I installed Personal Launcher.

Anyway: Advanced Backlight Control, Batter, Connection, Presence, Location, Alarm, PC connection, Software update notifier, Vagalume Last.fm Client, Graph Plugin and Applications are my checked status bar items.

Graph Plugin is the cpu/memory graph.

It wasn't obvious to me that I had to have Telescope installed the first time I installed this theme, that was fun. Personal Launcher would be another I would recommend.

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

Hey, Frank. Try to disable all your applets and leave only one of them. If Hildon is stable turn on one applet more. And go on. Then you will able to determine "bed" applet which causes crashes.

You can bind any key in Telescope to call Terminal or other program so if you will get into this situation again you will be able to go to the Terminal and run any program you need.

EDIT: on an N810, in case that makes a difference

My app switcher key (which I was also previously calling the hardware minimizer button) goes dead with Diablo5 just simply installed - whether or not the theme is active. This is also the 2nd or 3rd time I've installed/uninstalled the theme, with the same results.

I tried installing Telescope, picked up the .deb from the garage, but wouldn't let me install it as I had not installed something called "libimlib2", although I have no idea where to get the file, a cursory Google didn't turn up much. I will keep looking.

Two things I am just having a hard time not having with this beautiful theme: Personal Menu and some way to minimize the whole whack so I can look at the desktop without having to close everything. Mebbe Telescope does that? Right, anyway, I'm gonna head back and look at what was mentioned earlier about enabling Personal Menu, maybe I can get that sorted.

Btws, got the blue grid icon thing sorted straight out now - I thought earlier it was referring to something called "grid-icon", not an actual grid icon. lol Done, fixed, all good now. :D

If you trying to install Telescope from repository libimlib2 will be installed automatically. Do you have the dependency error? Try to disable some repositories...

That fixed the problem for me! I don't know why the dependency was not resolved on its own because the package is in multiple repositories.

I noticed last night that on my tablet with the latest version of Diablo5, the times on the media player are invisible now when a track is playing.

Not a massive thing, and I will try and get a screenshot at some point, but thought it worth reporting.

I don't know if this bug or something like that (just a minor nuisance to me.
The Application Selection Menu overlaps the screens.

Overall this theme is the best, would be better if the panel was little bit transparent- but no problems

Re: [Announce]: Diablo5 Theme (By Kroll}

Hi Kroll,

I have an issue which is sort of annoying, but a) not going to make me stop using Diablo5 and b) probably a fault of the application. I had the same problem with Freemantle for Diablo. What it boils down to is that with dark-colored themes, input boxes (like in tear or midori) and other areas of some apps (like the background in xword) retain the text color (black), but change the background color (black), which makes seeing any text entered impossible to see. For instance, I have to log in to the wireless access point at work, and find myself having to log in repeatedly, because the input boxes make it impossible to see what I am typing. In the way of an example, a post to the Freemantle for Diablo thread that I made last year about this problem

Anyone know of a fix or workaround to this to change the text color?

Thanks,
--vr

Try this:
download this file:
http://www.technobullshit.com/diablo5theme.css

Download it under /home/user/.tear/diablo5theme.css (or some other place if you prefer)
Go to Tear > Tools > Options (or push Ctrl+o in tear), there is a line named "user_stylesheet_uri", edit it and change the value to:
file:///home/user/.tear/diablo5theme.css (this has to match where you've put the file, watch out for the 3 / at the beginning)

This CSS theme will put all text areas, input text, ... to white with black text on it. Unless stated otherwise by the visited website. It makes gmail usable.

There are still some things that are not perfect (radio buttons have some black pixels around them), but it makes Tear usable with Diablo5Theme.

Sorry mate but did I inadvertently piss in your Cheerios? I never 'asked again' about Personal Menu, and Telescope wasn't in App Man. I'm not dense. I'll assume you got to me on a bad day and move on.

About the switcher, again, merely having the theme installed disables it, as well as takes away the sidebar. ((INSTALLED. Not ENABLED.)) If this has been addressed I'm sorry. At the time I brought it up I was trying to give feedback, that's all.

I think once the Diablo5 theme is out of 'Aplha'-phase Kroll and Mitrandir intends to package Diablo5 and Telescope together - which makes sense seeing that Diablo5 requires Telescope to re-enable application switching.

When/if this will happen, only Kroll/Mitrandir can tell but I'm sure they appreciate anyone's patience in the meantime :)
