I suppose you are talking about Opera mobile 11 for Maemo.

I found an announcement but I could not find the download link.

Just downloaded, looks good so far!

Check it out

Playing with it now, I was shocked to see it on my update list, especially because I have an N810.

They fixed the main thing that kept me from using it as my main browser, that stupid zoom thing it used to do. I don't know if that was intentional, but it was a serious usability issue.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 10

Hello everyone,

No worries, you're still part of the band! Opera Mobile 11 for Maemo is now on its way into the extras testing repository.

Read all about the new features at the Opera Mobile blog.

One important change I'd like to point out is that zooming in have changed from a single to double click. Instead you can now interact with the page directly in overview mode.

The big news for Maemo is that we now have support for the native on screen keyboard. It is implemented by overlaying Gtk textbox widgets, this means that also the hardware keyboard will work exactly as in other applications.

You can change back to the old input system in the settings, select Advanced, Opera keyboard. The default is to still use the old system for the address bar since the built in Opera keyboard doesn't overlap the auto-complete list.

More from the changelog:
  • New option to use Droid fonts (requires ttf-droid package).
  • Add detailed geolocation settings.
  • Turn off GPS on inactivity.
  • Handle symbolic links to directories in the file chooser.

As always, this version is in perpetual beta and have not gone though the normal QA process, thus the usual warnings and disclaimers apply. We also have a long standing known issue, the browser might not start properly and just show a black window. We've never been able to pinpoint or replicate this problem so it may still be there.

Best regards,
The Smooth Sailing Team @ Opera

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Update it via app manager.
There's no changelog (in the package description).
I tried it just 5 minutes and from what I can see:
-Zoom with double tap
-Added zoom buttons (on screen, the hardware volume buttons don't work)
-Some graphic changes

An additional note,

I remember someone asking about IPv6 once, it's now supported by the browser.

It requires you to have kernel drivers in place and to have IPv6 connectivity of course!

Just upgraded to Opera Mobile 11... what an awesome speed!!!!!!

Is it possible to add the Symbol option on Opera? (pressing FN then Ctrl will bring up the Symbol options by default, but doesn't work with opera mobile unless you change it first from the settings)

And how about Flash support?

Keep up the good work guys and thank you for supporting Maemo!!!! :D

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

With the current updates Opera is by far the best browser on the N810, actually one of the best mobile browsers I've ever used on anything.

The ttf-droid font option is very much appreciated, along with the option to shrink the UI. I'm sure I'll find more to love about it as I use it, but in the first 5 minutes it impressed me enough that I don't think I'll be starting Tear again.

Thank you for supporting us and our obscure devices. If there were a paid version, I'd definitely buy it to show my appreciation.

It's in the extras testing repository now. Read how to enable it in the application manager here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing

In about a week it'll be promoted to the normal repository.

No download links needed. :)

I simply love the new interface (wel, facelift anyways), I love the speed it starts, and I love the fact that months after nokia abandoned the device the Opera team did not give up on us. Yet again the mobile opera is my browser of choice on the n900 (as long as I dont need flash :) )

By default it works everywhere except in the address bar, this was done on purpose, since we feel the built-in on screen keyboard works better for entering URLs on the N900.

Feel free to change the setting if you don't like it, especially on the N800/N810 I guess.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Thank you for the reply :)

Although I really love the build in keyboard from you guys, when I type with keyboard slided out, I still cant get the symbol stuff working? (I don't want to change to the default onscreen keyboard when my keyboard is not slided out :( )

Also got some requests:
- Will you guys implement selecting text by holding SHIFT and pressing left or right arrows? (like on a real PC)
- Undo typing action with Ctrl+Z
- Going one page back when pressing Backspace (when the screen is not focused on a textbar) And vice versa with SHIFT+Backspace

Thanks again! :)

Ctrl+T as new tab and Ctrl+W as close tab would bee good too. Also some shortcut (Ctrl+Left/Right) to quick change between open tabs. Maybe all of this customizeable like in desktop opera? Also an open input box edited with hw keys does not give a "Done" button, closing the keyboard is needed.

@mohi2k7

It's already been stated that this is a known problem but they have no idea what's causing it.

I also have this problem, will try a reboot.

And what about N8X0 users? We do not have Extras-testing repository and I do not find the Opera update in Extras-devel.

Thanks.

At least in my case, it is caused by the old .opera/ds/1_plugins file. Copying it over the new .opera/ds, where it doesn't exists by default, triggers the bug.
It just contains 1 byte with the value 0x01
If you are affected by this bug, try deleting this file.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

It has now become one of the best mobile browser, renders the web pages very close like MicroB. One thing missing Flash support. CMON OPERA TEAM BRING IT ON.

But Many thanks for this fantastic update, it has without doubt become my default browser.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Works like a charm, blazing fast and fantastic UI.

I have to agree that only missing feature is Flash support. Otherwise It finally seems better than Micro B.

I had the black screen problem. I deleted the ~/.opera directory and it worked fine after that.

Warning: this deletes all bookmarks, settings, saved passwords, etc.

Mmm Opera and Firefox browser update available on the same day, spoiled for choice I think.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

For N8x0 users: you may need the Opera catalog enabled to see the update.

Web address: http://deb.opera.com/maemo
Components: non-free

The updated version appeared in my Application Manager this morning. I also have Extras-Devel enabled. If you don't see the update, those might help.

EDIT: Looking at the opera directory, it looks like I'm wrong about the Opera Catalog. It must be in Extras-Devel.

mohi2k7 2011-03-22 12:41

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

i finally got a chance to put the browser through its paces and woah what a speed freak, tabs open in background, text fit to screen and crisp rendering... congrats are in order for the opera team well done :)

Removing ~/.opera/ds/1_plugins solved the black screen issue.
