:) i was also happy when i see the update, but the performance not good at all...

Will you include opera keyboard in a later release? I used it a lot, if I accessed Hungarian forums from the phone. Also, some web page elements slow down scrolling, and cause lag. (try out mobilarena.hu and omgubuntu.co.uk)

Surely. The last version is BETA.

Thank you sooo much for this new update ! It's so awesome to have an updated browser on my beloved n900 :)
I don't see any performance regression with this new version (but I have Thumb2 + OC@850 + swap on SD). I just regret the Opera vkb is gone because I don't like much the maemo stock one.
I hope there will be more ! (like a Thumb2 compiled version ?)

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

I am seeing freqent crashes doing the same things I've been doing for a long time (with no crashes), eg tryingto log onto facebook.

Gmail has a new interface, but I still don't see if it's possible to attach a file to a message without switching to desktop interface. Worse, gmail has now stopped working altogether; going to mail.google.com makes Opera wait indefinitely.

Is there a way to go back to the previous version?

For Opera 11:

apt-get install opera-mobile=11.5beta1-14~fremantle0

I did it too and it works. But don't update it :P

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

I just found out what caused my problem: It was one particular website, and it happens all the time.
Just open it with Opera mobile, try to close it, the ui will become a total mess-up, forcing you to close the browser:

Thanks to the opera devs for the N900 update: Nobody supports older platforms like you!

At least for me, it seems improved, especially when using desktop mode for facebook.

Hi all,

A new build with a few fixes should soon show up in the testing repo.

I have managed to restore the Opera keyboard setting and I fixed the text copy bug. Enjoy!

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Thank you very much devs. Very much appreciated! It was a present surprise to see Opera on the update list (well anything is good); especially as I wasn't expecting anymore updates.

Yes, it's buggy. It's slow, we've lost the great keyboard (no portrait anymore as well), it messes up the UI and seems to be uglier in places. However we now have the infinite speed dial (something I was considering switching phones for), auto-capitalisation works and we have the lastest version. Most of all though, we got an update for probably the most niche mobile OS. Those who have been complaining should know by now you can easily downgrade (and keep settings with Opera link) and should know it's a beta. Grow up and show some appreciation, because as far as I know this is just a pet project for the devs.

Again; thank you very much for even bothering to update Opera for Maemo. I hope you have time to fix the bugs and re-implement missing features.

Oh sorry i don't saw it :)

EDIT: ohrn, i think that there are people who can compile the latest version for you if you share with source code with some kind guy who can do it :) Because i think Thumb2 compiled version should be a lot faster :) As we all know Opera uses a lot of rams, so Thumb2 version should use less rams also have a better performance, more speed etc... What do you think about this ?

EDIT2: Also i think it is time to change thread title to 12 version ? :)

Well, the time needed to setup thumb target in scratchbox is a about an hour(at most, along with the time needed to download the toolchain). I don't know if you compile in SB or cross-compile, but if latter, building with thumb should be matter of passing -mthumb to the compiler (assuming you use gcc and binutils >= 2.19). Though if there is some assembler trickery in javascript engine, the above would not work.

Anyway, nothing to be done here, opera is closed source after all.

EDIT:

On the other hand I am impressed with how opera scores on sunspider:

CSSU-thumb, max CPU@600 (no overclock) - 5583.1 ms

Updated version working just as the prior 12 build did for me, nice and fast. Thanks again Ohrn for giving up more of your valuable free time for us!

It's nice seeing that the N900 uses now a more recent Opera version than the N9.

**please Ohrn, rename thread to "Opera 12"

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Latest build out today:
Select - Copy FIXED
CR causing comments to post - FIXED

Regressions:
Symbols popup sometimes doesn't work. Not sure if it's site based or what but I swear I saw it working once in this build.
Back to non-Maemo capitalisation.
Sometimes pages (links?) do not load and just the spinning loading icon. Hitting the X and resubmitting the request can instantly bring up loading bar. Anyone confirm or is this my internet?

Best version yet though. Whether or not you build a Thumb2 version (and I dare say FMG or someone would literally talk you through it), I can't thank you enough for supporting Maemo these past 2+ years, ohrn.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

I still see the spinning icon and the page not loading when I go to gmail. Two days ago, however, Opera 12 did display a new interface using gmail, but then it stopped working. Note all this is using the Mobile Agent; Desktop Agent seems to be working ok.

@ohrn
Sometimes dreams come true...
Thank you so much!!

Until now, the only issue i have found, is that if you open opera while offline (for example, using evopedia offline) and you click an entry form, the first click on the virtual keyboard freezes opera and you have to kill it...

It still happens after updating and clearing the cache, not all the time like I mentioned at first but if you open a few news in a new tab then close them, you will likely reproduce the problem.

Reported font rendering problem with v12 few days ago - it turned out that it was a problem with my device (due to hildon-desktop) not with Opera.

Also, I might be seeing a higher power draw.

I noticed in v12 scrolling on very long web pages (such as a reddit comments page) turns the screen blank (background-colored) until I stop scrolling. It only starts after I scroll about halfway down the page.

Has anyone else seen the same behavior?

Can't confirm. A slightly annoying behaviour I see is when a page is loading slowly, there's no indication whethere there's any more page to scroll down to and so you scroll down -- only nothing happens.
So you scroll down again and again.
Then the page loads and scrolls all the way down to the bottom. :D

Just noticed ohrn is updating first post:

Quote:

Know issues in this release:
Paste does not work in contentEditable/designMode.
Native on screen keyboard does not activate in contentEditable/designMode.
Hopefully this means we're going to get an Opera Mobile 12 with no major issues. ;)

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Hi there,
i'm sorry, that my first post here in this forum will be a bug report, but i think it will be nice to fix the bug somehow.

The latest version of Opera 12 (12.10.16 [12.1beta1-16~fremantle0]) crashes in networks with active HTTP-proxy.
Platfom: Nokia N900
OS: Maemo 5

I configured in Wifi-Settings one HTTP-proxy that is required to use our Wifi-Network in my school. When i start opera (console or with startlink on workspace) and i try to visit any website Opera crashes with "Segmentation fault".

This does not happen in Wifi-Networks without globally forced proxy-settings (e.g. at home or at my workplace).

Any idea? If needed i can help to get crash dump or logfile when possible.

By the way, i only use N900 with wifi and not with 3G internet access.

Best regards
