Overclock and Pr 1.2
Hi guys,
Im new her to the forums and have a question about overclocking the n900 and the hopefully soon to come p.r. 1.2 1) What is the best way to overclock the n900 without giving up to much stability? 2) If I overclock what will happen when pr1.2 comes out? Should i re-clock the device or will things keep on working the way they did before the update? BTW im totaly new to overclocking so please for the sake for this and other noobs, give me some advice. Thanks in advance |
Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
Overclocking with titan's kernel is pr 1.2 compatible. 900 mhz runs most stable.

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
Great so i could use this titan 900mhz even though i still have the current version and dont have to change anything if the new version comes out?
What about if I encounter any problems? How do I get back to the standard nokia settings? |
Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
Yes, it seems so.
everything is written in the Wiki: How to revert back to non-overclocked factory stock kernel state: 1. Launch xterminal 2. sudo gainroot (assuming you have rootsh installed) 3. apt-get install --reinstall kernel kernel-flasher 4. reboot 5. Uninstall "Enhanced kernel for power users" If youre bricking your device do this: http://wiki.maemo.org/Flashing |
Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
900 MHz is NOT the most stable. It is most stable at stock settings without overclocking. If you're overclocking, each device is capable of reaching a stable frequency unique to its chip. In general, most devices are able to reach around 800 MHz at relatively stable conditions. If stability is a concern, try to keep a maintain a low clock speed.

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
I found 800-850 completely stable. I'm running the leaked firmware and the "starving" power settings. The Wiki overclocking doc and the Jakiman doc summarize ine options well.

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
i'm using 900mhz and never got any problems. but I agree ofc with unkno, stock is most stable.

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
I am running Titan's (27) kernel and I rarely overclock my N900.
I have created 3 widgets on one of my desktops for easy overclocking (queen bee con) if I want to have some more power. 750mhz 900mhz 1ghz The main thing I use the kernel for is the LOWcpu speed, I like it being at 250mhz (or lower) saves a good amount of battery. |
Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
So I only have to follow steps (with step 5 only type: kernel-config load ideal
kernel-config limits 500 1000 f.e.?). So I dont have to run through the whole http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=3412 tutorial? Thanks for all the kind answers! |
Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
ok so did i do it right? :
Xterminal after kernel-config show : Current kernel config : current freq : 850 supp freq : 125 250 500 550 600 700 750 805 850 900 950 1000 1100 1150 min freq : 500 max freq : 850 avoid freq : 125 250 ........................ so it runs at 500 850 now? |

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
i mostly use 850mhz in almost everything. and runs solid. i also have 1ghz and 1.15ghz settings ready on my OC desktop just in case (use those for playing vgba with smooth sounds and images)
my fw is the leaked PR1.2 |
Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
Titan's kernels revert to stock settings at every reboot so its pretty safe to try different configs to see which is most stable for your device, if you cause it to crash it will just boot back up the next time at stock, i personaly have found my device stable across the whole range of freqs with ideal config, however all devices are different so start conservatively and work your way up slowly would be my advice.

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
So i set my config for 500-900 mhz for a while as freq then turned it back to 500 -850 just to be sure not to do too much damage. All seems to be working well and no crashes so far.
However : i noticed that battery life decreased much faster after overclocking. Is there any way to avoid all this? Or should I just deal with it and carry my solar charger with me at all times? Also : i tried changing it to 250 - 900 but conky still shows it as 500 - 900. probably because 250 is being avoided. Anyway to change this or should i just not mess around with that? edit : just encountered my first crash while using transmission as torrent client and playing a videa at the same time. Several reboots didnt work then after fourth try it worked again. Figured out how to set it to 250-850 lets see if it doesnt reboot now. |

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
so the same stil applies for the pr 1.2:confused:

Re: Overclock and Pr 1.2
so i downloaded the two files in extras repos and installed it. i check the frequencies using "healthcheck" and it installed successfully. now, how do i set up the limits of it??
