Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

Well with the solution to copy the kernel it works "ok" now, though the internet connection could be better. I can surf for 2-3 minutes, got a quite big lag then and can continue then again. So its still not so good as a USB / BT connection!

The connection to the phone itself is fine and it works even as LAN router without any lag (10MBit~). Just the internet connection is still not good working yet.

I use the hotspot app from devel and the custom kernel, works fine so far.

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

If you have any "stability" issues with your Joiku connection or simply a very slow connection then there is an easy solution:

Just run a permanent ping from your N900 to the connected PC/NB, that way the connection "stays alive". It seems to be an issue with the WLAN power management of the N900.

It would be even better if we could disable the "WLAN Energy Save Mode" for the Joiku connection, then such a ping wouldn't be required and reaction / speed would be even better. I tested that with my router connection and SSH / SFTP, the speed / reaction difference is huge! The terminal is running so fast and smooth <3

Open x-term and type these commands:

- back-up JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko to /home/user
Code:

cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/user/

- gain root rights
Code:

sudo gainroot

- remove old file
Code:

rm /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko

- copy a new from kernel's modules
Code:

cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/

That's it.

EDIT: You have to do this always when either kernel or JoikuSpot is updated to a newer version.
When I do the last command "cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications"

It says /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko does not exist.

What should I do???

Are you using Titans Power Kernel?

What do you get if you write
Code:

ls -la /lib/modules/current

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

whats so good about joikuspot compared to mobilehotspot?

i use mobilehotspot everyday, wich is free and never have any problems.

wich made me think joikuspot is a waste of money when mobilehotspot is free.. but maybe its better? since people use that instead? confused :)

Gusse 2010-12-26 20:32

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

Personally I don't use JoikuSpot too often, actually I don't even remember when was the last time.

This is just a good option for laptop/etc... to have an access point when no free WLAN available (i.e. when travelling...). Mobilehotspot might be better, but never tried that one. Don't know about others.

Edit:
Thanks for this little push to check Mobilehotspot ;)
Installation is easy and it seems to work OK (editing now via Mobilehotspot connection).

ah I guess I installed the wrong one? I installed the 'enhanced linux kernel for power users'

also mobilehotspot always says failed to start. so not having luck with either joiku or mhs

Nokia-N900:~# ls -la /lib/modules/current
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Dec 31 1969 /lib/modules/current -> 2.6.28-omap1

woodyear99 2010-12-27 00:40

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

Hmm having an issue here. i uninstalled the enhanced kernel and reinstalled via app manager.

After I reboot I still get

ls -l /lib/modules/current
/lib/modules/current -> 2.6.28-omap1

So it seems as tho power kernel isn't installed? Tho I ran the install from app manager with no errors...

Could this be due to the NIT droid dual boot I have?

I notice the NITdroid no longer works ever since I uninstalled/reinstalled enhanced kernel

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

Try via terminal:
Code:

sudo gainroot
Code:

apt-get install kernel-power-flasher kernel-power kernel-power-modules
Code:

apt-get install kernel-power-settings
and then boot (power-off) the device.

Thanks, those commands went through. I rebooted and still get

ls -l /lib/modules/current
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Dec 31 1969 /lib/modules/current -> 2.6.28-omap1

Any ideas?

Gusse 2010-12-28 07:22

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

What do you get from
Code:

uname -r
It should be 2.6.28.10power46.

And directory listing from
Code:

ls -l /lib/modules
You should have there at least two directories + link to current
2.6.28-omap1
2.6.28.10power46

Forward is on your own risk:
If so far everything is OK, you could changes linked directory manually.
Code:

sudo gainroot
cd /lib/modules
rm current
ln -s 2.6.28.10power46 current

If you are not succesful or do not want modify link file, send post to Overclock the N900? thread. Author of Power Kernel (Titan), most probably can help you. I don't know does he read this thread?

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

I installed the enhanced linux kernel for power users via app manager a few days ago. I rebooted and ran those commands. Any idea where I went wrong?

Nokia-N900:~# uname -r
2.6.28-omap1

Nokia-N900:~# uname -r
2.6.28-omap1
Nokia-N900:~# ls -l /lib/modules
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 7600 Dec 26 13:07 2.6.28-omap1
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 19640 Dec 26 13:07 2.6.28.10power46
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2088 Dec 26 13:07 2.6.28.NIT.06
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Dec 31 1969 current -> 2.6.28-omap1

should I run that last command? ie.

Quote:

sudo gainroot
cd /lib/modules
rm current
ln -s 2.6.28.10power46 current

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

Don't run last set of commands!

Please, post your problem to Overclock thread.
You seems to have files in place, but kernel was not changed.

Edit:
You might want to try this one:
Kernel Power, Issues after multiboot or Nitdroid installation

My Joikuspot has a new issue again, this time I see only white pages but do have a internet connection? What is wrong this time -.-?

At least Mobilehotspot is working as alternate atm.

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

How can i reverse this.....

- back-up JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko to /home/user
Code:

cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/user/

- gain root rights
Code:

sudo gainroot

- remove old file
Code:

rm /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko

- copy a new from kernel's modules
Code:

cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/

Ever since i did this my internet has become painfully slow? The first 2 command lines worked for me so i'll just keep using them

I am having this problem too. I have restarted my device a few times but it still doesn't work. I should have done it right. Went to X-Terminal, typed sudo gainroot, then modprobe (space) JoikuSpot_Bounce. Word for word, letter by letter ensuring Uppercase were applied for J,S and B but i got a "FATAL: Module JoikuSpot_Bounce not found". I have tried keying in root instead of gainroot and i stil get the same error message. Please help!

Okey when i tweak or replace the file with joikuspot bouncer i am not able to use the faircrack,

so is there a way to change some thing on the file with which i could use both joikuspot and faircrack.....

tuxsavvy 2011-09-30 09:07

Re: N900+JoikuSpot= NO internet

Most likely the file that you use with joikuspot bouncer is not compatible with lxp's wl1251 as lxp's wl1251 uses compat.ko which brings up to a specific kernel version that joikuspot bouncer's kernel module is not understood for that specific wireless portion (due to the compat-wireless).

Your best bet is to contact the maintainer of joikuspot and see if he can port a kernel module for you to use with lxp's wl1251.
