youtube videos slow and pixelated
 

hello

when i veiw videos on youtube they are really bad quality and skip all the time.my n95 does a better job of playing them. is this how its meant to be on an n900?

no tasks running.well is there a special way to see wot tasks are running? youtube doesnt always look bad. on my n95 videos looks great and on my friends htc desire videos look amazing

It's because you are watching youtube videos on the website itself. A dedicated youtube application allows for higher quality video streaming, that's why youtube videos look better on HTC Desire or any other smartphone which has such app. You should try downloading zoutube, and see if it makes a difference.

ive got zootube looks the bloody same.watched videos on the youtube site from the desire.

That's because something is wrong with youtube, it seems that they "pessimize" the video player every few months, it eats up more and more cpu and works worse and worse on slower machines.

For some reason zoutube doesnt work for me so I've installed Media Box and a youtube plugin for it. Works like a charm :) although it eats battery quality is better that in MicroB

I don't think so. I think Its because of low color support and the way n900 handles color coz even some browsers suffer banding. Here's similar discussion.

Edit: However, recently I noticed that youtube apps like zoutube plays videos having lower resolution than N900's screen quite perfectly i.e without suffering the banding whereas some 16:9 ratios/higher res videos suffer so it may be coz of mechanism used to squeeze them to fit to fullscreen??

ill tell you wot i think is happening. youtube detects that it is a mobile device that is not high spec and lowers the bit rate of the video. i think this is happening because when i go on hd videos there is no option oi select the res on the hd. Even on piss poor pc's you get this option!

Hmm my YouTube performance is superb. This is the one area I never ever had complaints with. In fact, YouTube works better on my N900 than my desktop Ubuntu 10.04, which has always amazed me.

Maybe you should consider downloading 'extra decoders' from the repos?

hey, i have the same problem..and when i try opening hd videos ( iron man 2 trailer for example) it get reaaaly choppy like around 1 frame per second!try using mozilla though..the video is much better..but its still pixellated..hope some1 has a fix for this!!

wht do you expect with flash 9. its has no GPU support so its all software rendered.

wait for flash 10.1 which has gpu support



******1 trick is to wait for the video to fully load and run on full screen.

The problem is that we are likely to wait forever. PR1.2 has no flash 10 either, right?

or if u want to get the real real youtube experience download the hide user agent app from extras. youtube will no longer know ur using a microb browser and will give you hd quality videos.
however be prepared from choppy videos as n900 doesnt handle that much streaming so well.

edit. havent tried this after overclocking so maybe its not as bad.
