I don't see Destroid in the list

http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_Coding_C...1#Participants

Could he add himself here? Or should I do it? His game gets positive reviews, and it would be a pity if it didn't enter the competition because of not being in the table.

destroid has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore I may not send your message to him/her.

P.S. I'm going to add it to the table. EDIT: Added. I'm going to write him down as beginner: I haven't seen any evidence of other application developed by him. Written down. All correct?

These projects will automatically be entered into both contests, the main coding one and the side beginners one. I hope that makes sense :)

So it's not required to be a newbie in programming in general to enter the beginners competition? Just that it's the first N900 app?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

I've already entered by PM; Here's the public entry announcement.

I''ve entered with two projects:

First is "Reaction face-off", which I wrote in the first week of July and which is finished except for one bug.Second one is "Alarmed", which I began writing before May, but which was under constant development and has seen it's 0.2.0 release in June. It's pretty much finished.Since the beginning of May, the following Additions had been made to Alarmed:
  • 0.1.9-1/2:Cleaned up dependencies, no more boost! Pyside ftw.
  • 0.1.9-1/2: Added bluetooth switch
  • 0.1.9-1/2: Added saving/loading presets for command line execution events!
  • 0.1.9-3/4: GPRS counter reset fixed, resets both home and roaming at the same time.
  • 0.1.9-5: Switched around alarm buttons and added info message to alarm dialog.
  • 0.1.9-6: Improved list layout (no more sideways scrolling)
  • 0.2.0-1: You can now toggle (enable and disable) events instead of having to delete them!

It's good of you to help out, Wikiwide, earlier in the thread he said he'd like to join in. But I dont think we can automatically add him to the beginners competition. We don't know what his background is, he may have been involved in other projects and doesnt consider himself a beginner. I notice you said you tried to pm but couldnt, could you possibly make a message to him in his thread? Im going to remove the 'Y' in the meantime, destroid if you're eligible and want to join in the beginner comp feel free to put it back in there :) You'd be very welcome :)

Good question helihyv, and the answer is pretty much. There's no real way to police is someone has previous coding experience on other platforms. For the purposes of the rules of the comp, it's new to the N900 platform. The spirit of the competition is to bring new developers and apps to the N900.

Hmm.. sounds like Sally might have sent it twice in error, probably best not to accept that second donation until we know for sure.. we definitely dont want to take advantage of any errors.. Sally can you let me or Cosimo know? :)

zehjotkah, correct. I am donating 40€ ! Thanks for checking ;)

Although the double donation was a mistake, I easily use more than 40€'s worth of free apps on my N900. This is a small token of thanks to all those who code in their spare time so we can have better devices.

A big thank you to all the developers who've supported this amazing device so far :)

Thanks.

Hey b0unc3, thanks for the entry details. I'm pretty much organiser at this point, or I'll do my best to be. I'm down as it on the wiki anyway :)
http://wiki.maemo.org/index.php?titl...seful_contacts

Is it mandatory, not totally. Is it in your best interests, most definitely! I just dont have the time to scavenge around for bits and pieces of info on each project, if any author's dont want a title and blank description on the voting thread they best send me something :p

BTW I sent a pm earlier to thp as his wiki entry is still showing "TBA" as the project name, and hasn't been updated in weeks. If he doesn't get it updated in time his entry will be incomplete and invalid, so I hope it updates it soon :(

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

We currently have 66 projects listed on the wiki as entries, in comparison I dont have so many PMs with details from author's yet. We still have another few hours to go and I suspect they'll all start coming in at the end :p But there's no way Im going to be able to create voting threads for 60-odd projects tonight, I got to sleep sometime!

The new plan is to start with two categories tonight to get their voting threads up and running by tomorrow morning. I've chosen "Desktop" and "Location & Navigation" to begin with as they are a little smaller in number (so far) but also because they have more proportion of PMs in now.. so I can start work on them right away. So please everyone who's entered for these two categories get your PMs in asap so I can get to sleep sooner :D

No!No!No!Yes!, Ianaré, Venemo, and Benson Tsai - I need your PMs for your desktop entries. You too, digitalsurgeon, if you finally decide on a category for your app!

pine and tahitibob35 - I still need your PMs for your location entries.

Over the next day or two the voting threads for the remaining categories will be done. Ofcourse, there won't be any further entries permitted into the competition after the close of contest tonight. Just a few hours left :)

It matters if you'd like to be considered for the beginner's competition! :)

It's a smaller competition thats going to be running at the same time, but it's strictly for coders who have created and released their first app for the N900 during the competition dates (May 21st-July21st). It sounds like you're eligible, so if so just let me know and I'll put your "Yes" back in there .. or you can update the wiki yourself if u fancy here

It costs nothing to enter so you might as well ;)

2 Attachment(s)
PM sent to Kojacker with details for my two entries:

Entry 1: Classic Cam
--------------------
Classic Cam is a camera app that automatically "develops" photos to give them
a "retro" look, much the same as those old 70's prints you have in your photo album.

The application replicates the look of the back of an instamatic camera (with the
addition of a not-so-retro LCD preview panel!) and uses the shutter button to
take photos. When a photo is taken, a number of different configurable filters are
applied automatically to the photo to create a photo that looks like an old print.

The application is fully functional but is a work-in-progress and will continue
to be developed based on user feedback and comments

Available in the extras-devel repository. Further details in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=53516

Entry 2: Classic Print
----------------------
Classic Print allows you to load any photo image then apply and tweak settings to
give the photos a classic retro look, like those 1970's prints you have in your photo
album.

Based on the same image processing engine as Classic Cam, this application allow
you to take existing photos and apply a retro print style to them. The application
allows you to tweak all the parameters of the filters and save presets of your
favourite settings.

Available in the extras repository. Further details in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=56398

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

Does anybody know anything about Ianaré and his Moon Phase Widget?

I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere other than it's name on the comp wiki page. Ive pm'd him for more details on it and to see if it's still being entered into the competition. At the moment I have an entry on the wiki but absolutely nothing else to go on, not even a screenshot or a description :(

Could someone please double check for me that I haven't missed anything in a repository somewhere? I dont want to lose anyone from the comp and I'll gather details on their behalf, but I cant find anything on this one.. yet. I guess it's possible the project may be dead and it hasn't been taken off the wiki..

HI,

I finally fixed one strange and annoying bug in my program
for this competition (scout). The current version is
0.0.5 my new version is 0.0.6 and uploaded to the extras-devel
autobuilder. But the build failed for the i386 target.
The armel target succeed but it isn't available from the
repository as long as i386 target doesn't succeed.
I hope I can use the 0.0.6 version as my submission for the
competition.

Haha.. somebody pm'd me earlier saying something similar about their apps chances against ApMeFo :p It definitely has it's admirers :)

Yes please send me more stuff anyway, basically it's a pain in the rump trying to salvage bits and pieces together of apps you dont know. Especially when you're trying to cover everything. Basically what Id love from everyone is something like this:

App name:
Author:
Brief description:
Screenshot(s):
Features/work to be judged:
Package name and where to find the app:
Maemo.org thread or garage thread (if exists)

A lot of what i got was "I'm entering "1000 Cottage Cheese Recipies" into the contest. My paypal is pottedcheeselover@cheesetime.c.." and all the other stuff missing. So Im hoking around threads trying to fill in some gaps cos most normal people on our side of the planet are asleep and wont get my reply for more info until tomorrow earliest anyway.

Unless someone has kindly given me all the info, what I plan to do is write a little something for the entry similar to above layout to cover the basics, and then start the poll thread, Then I'll give each author 24 hours to review what Ive written and change it. To make sure Ive represented their app correctly and to help users judge it correctly.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

Tick tick boom!! Shake the room!! 12 GMT and the competition entry is officially closed!! :D

Put down that mouse, missus, and don't be touching that participant's list - you're too late!!

It's time for some sleep, because the morning comes early with the arrival of the first two gladiators into the ring.. the "Desktop" and "Location & Navigation" categories!! :D

Hehe - I'd say a competition where the contestants are admiring each other hints on quite a healthy community. :D

And sorry - didn't think about how much work it must be to get all the information together with so many entries! Talking about programmers out of touch with the real world, eh? ;)

So here's my information:

App name: ApMeFo - TMO Thread (announcements, feedback and requests)
Author: Nathraiben
Brief description: GUI-based approach for creating folders in the application menu. Create folders, assign them an icon and move your applications from the main menu into your custom folders (in customisable order).
Features/work to be judged: Not sure what should be posted here?
Package name and where to find the app: apmefo

I wouldn't dare to edit the list myself then...

Kojacker, could you leave KitchenAlert and URPO out of the beginner's contest, (unless only previously released apps count as previous programming experience on N900)?

Edit:
I'm starting to realize that, if "hello world" app's are more than welcome to this competition, perhaps I should have counted the my 'picked up from a programming book' python script (of which I printed several copies while testing URPO :)) and stuff like that as previous apps on N900. I just didn't think them as apps...

Perhaps those arranging possible next comp could learn from this: make very clear rules so fools like me would not cause a mess ;)

Heli, the rules states that "entries to the beginners competition must be the authors first released coding project(s) for the N900, and must have been first released between the competition start and end dates." So porting over an application to the testing environment on your machine, which wasnt released, doesn't exclude you automatically. Im sure others will have created a "Hello World" at one point too before going onto their beginner entry.. you cant just start writing applications, you have to learn the basics somewhere :)

So Im going to leave the "Y" in there, but if you feel you would prefer to remove your entries from the beginners comp just PM me and let me know.

I vote for only leaving the Y there when helihyv bribes you by releasing the game, too! :D

Okay then!
I'll provide you with the required details.
If you need anything more about the app, let me know!

App name: Sticky Notes
Author: Timur Kristóf (Venemo)
Screenshot:
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/thumb/100721/...toltes.hu_.png
(More in the maemo.org thread, first post.)
Features/work to be judged:
All of the key features mentioned here, eg. the ability to have multiple notes widgets on the desktop, plus the "implemented features" section in the maemo.org thread, most of which were feature requests.
Package name and where to find the app:
Maemo.org thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=57049
Brief description:
Intended to be the ultimate notes widget for the N900, Sticky Notes lets you create multiple notes on your desktop.
The first priority of Sticky Notes is to provide a finger-friendly user interface to make it a joy to use it for all users.
Sticky Notes is the first widget that offers users to create more than one instance of it on Maemo 5. They all come with the option to select different background colours, foreground colours, fonts, and you can even set the transparency level of each note.
Sticky Notes comes with options to format text inside your notes with a small toolbar that goes away when you don't need it (thus making more room for the notes). It also supports popular key shortcuts for formatting.

Thanks Venemo! Could you have found me a smaller screenshot..? :p

Guys the desktop thread is live, please check your individual projects and make sure everything is ok. We got 24 hours for changes/fixing all the mistakes I made :D

Ive still got to do Queen Beecon Widget.. have you seen the change log on that thing?

fcrochik, you sent me some good stuff last night but I didn't get around to adding it in yet, so to start off I've gone with what I already had. I'll update at work with your new info throughout the day while the boss isnt looking :)

That's what I was talking about - that one will get 99.9% of all votes. :D

Oops, sorry, sooo stupid of me not to check the rules from wiki first...:o

:)

It could be workable to be actually playable on N900... It's keyboard controlled, though. Perhaps someday...
