This is not about 6 euros. This is about an app being 6 times the price of the exact app on a different platform. I knew about sales and competition, and it is perfectly reasonable for a price difference..but 6 times the normal price? That's a steal.

Wouldn't you be mad if a game costing 30 euros on xbox, costs you 180 euros for ps3? The ratio is the same..and this is why I won't buy it. Not unless they reduce price for Maemo or increase price for iiphone to make the ratio a bit more..reasonable.

you can't compare iPhone and N900 like ps3 and x0...

better analogy would be psp/ds vs pandora....

Excellent point. Rovio is private company and it has required money from them to get angry birds working in N900 in the first place.

and if you can't pay them 6 euros for all levels, why should they develope anything to N900?

pantera1989, you don't think it's worth it? You think it's overpriced? You're an idiot.

It's the ****** Apple store that _underprices_ everything to the point it means people can't actually make any real money on there.

I will buy every level pack for angry birds, the price they set £1.50 is well worth the enjoyment I get out of the game. I don't care if the iPhone app store has it for less for those bunch of under appreciative losers.

EDIT:
Maybe idiot is a bit harsh, but it does show you're not willing to support developers of quality software for this device. Just because Apple are playing limbo with app prices.

Tswindell: I couldn't agree you more. I just hope Rovio will release more quality titles also to N900.

Devs choose their prices on the App Store. Blame the market for low prices! OUTRAGEOUS NEAR 'PERFECT MARKET' APP STORE.

How do you update Ovi Store applications when they don't appear in App Manager? Sorry for the rubbish question, its been a long morning and my brain hasn't fully woken up yet.

Updates will appear on your N900 in the same way as normal. It's just that the Angry Birds version in the Ovi store is not actually an updated version - it's the same old version, but with an incorrect description (claiming it's new). When the new version is actually made available, you'll be able to update via App Manager.

Re: angrybirds... updated?

@Rob1n, yep thanks for clarification. I just uninstalled my A/birds but when reinstalling can only find v1.1.0 - so this is a description error on Ovi Store (or a description error in the file versioning - which seems much less likely).

This may be because the updates that are going through Ovi QA are almost ready to be uploaded. And the system is now showing the new version numbers. That'd be my guess.

But why should they remove the old version and upload the old version again, then?

because ovi store doesn't function as it should?

Re: angrybirds... updated?

I don't think they've uploaded an old version, they just haven't completely processed the new version. So it's reporting the "metadata" from the new packing which hasn't been imported into their repo yet.

The different prices are pretty much like it is with Windows games vs Mac and Linux versions of those games. Porting costs money and the economy of scale also plays a part.

I assure you that I am no idiot and I do support developers. I bought zenbound. That's 5 euros, but I didn't mind at all. I bought the first levelpack. I bought Spin. I bought Documents to go. I didn't mind.

I like supporting developers and they deserve it. I also understand that things will be a bit more expensive for the N900 since there are fewer users. Zenbound and other games costs twice or less than the iphone's. But 6 times? No way. That's oppression. I would gladly pay and support developers. But I don't want to be cheated. 6 times is way over the limit.

Please, please try to go one page in a games thread without giving me an overwhelming urge to just delete the whole stinking thread.

Stop throwing poo, stop creating redundant or pointless threads, stop using so many asterisks, stop painting poo-targets on your head (aka trolling).

By the new policy which will go into effect shortly, half the posters in the thread i just merged would probably have received infractions. It would probably be good to start moderating yourselves now.

I usually just make comments as a normal user like "Please don't attack each other." and so forth, but i think fair warning is due because a lot of users that frequent Games are going to find themselves regularly getting one week bands due to accrued Infractions if they can't behave more like civilized, intelligent human beings.

Do updates to Ovi Store apps come through the application manager automatically? I.e. when Angry Birds changes from 1.1.0 to 1.3.4 will this pop up?

The only app I've had update so far from the Ovi is Firefox, and thats in it's own repo.

I ask because I know nokia have hacked some funky arse **** into the hildon app manager so not sure on the affects on this on updates.

I believe so - I'm pretty sure I've had updates to Ovi store apps come though anyway, but I could be mistaken.

Re: angry birds download help

They do. You don't need to redownload from Ovi once you install it on your device. Once the update hits the Ovi repo it's included in the list of updates you can get for applications.

Re: angry birds download help

I have Angry Birds version 1.1.0 installed + Level pack 1.

Now I am trying to update to version 1.3.4 available in OVI store.

The Application manager tries to download the application but fails.

Any suggestions?

If I get .deb file for Angry Birds 1.3.4 and install it manually Will it overwrite all the levels I have completed or they will be preserved?

I don't know if it makes any difference but I installed the Level pack 1 from deb file.

Without knowing what the actual error message you get is, no.

All the application manager does is download and install the .deb file, so doing it manually will not end with differing results - all completed levels will be preserved in either case.

The message is something like this
Code:

File download failed. Try Again?
Can it be problem with my Wi-Fi?

I switched to 3G went to Angry Birds on Ovi Store download webpage and downloaded it.

Application manager updated Angry Birds to 1.3.4 and its working fine.

There's the problem. You need to go through Ovi.

Is there any way to get a .deb file out of the installed package? Or while installing it trough app-manager? Because my friend has problems with his wifi and can't get it through OVI. Maybe there is a way to access the ovi repository via PC? I have no idea :P

You can access OVI store on you PC using Firefox + User agent Switcher plugin.

With User agent switcher plugin you can use different profiles like Iphone, IE and even N900. (Google it).

But the problem is that it does not download the .deb package onto computer but it downloads the .install file which will work with N900 application manager.

The contents of the install file are

Code:

[install]
catalogues = nokia-ovi-store
package  = angrybirds

[nokia-ovi-store]
id = ovi
file=variant-catalogues

I had the same problem with Wi-Fi like you. Try using 3G, it worked for me.

As long as there are twats in the world like you the only people developing for this platform will be the great community here, no other software devs will bother because it's people like you who refuse to pay for the goods that drive them away.
