App update icon appeared on my N900 before midday (London). I went and found some WiFi, expecting it to be a big download. Downloaded and installed - probably took about 30 mins in total. Re-booted and everything seems to be as expected. Some things are smoother, browser is nice in portrait, all apps and FM Boost still there.
The device was bought direct from Nokia in January, and I assume it is a UK build.
If I get back to my car and find the Bluetooth connects I will be over the moon - but I'm not hoping, knowing how bad Bluetooth is!
Overall, nice update process: totally faultless, expectations met, incremental improvement to the N900.

Guys, i need some help so im hoping you fellas can sort me out,

I've had today the update come up (Which i was really happy about) for the new pr1.2 in application updater,

When trying to install this it forwards me on to a message saying use the nokia software updater,

I did this and it says i already have the latest, would you like to reinstall or click here if you want to check for updates (Using the code input.)

Now i did try a reinstall and its 179 meg (Is that right?) but after the download and updating process it failed (Says dont use USB hubs you tool!) and ima like (Wat ya shmokin maaan), but anyway it failed, after the first restart the device completely froze loading maemo however ripping the battery out, holding power for 30 seconds and popping it back in has me sorted (Thank god.)

Im in the UK, on vodaphone, Do i get this update?

And if so, is the updater working for other people?

Oops just saw the above comments haha,

Im on win 7 too if that helps, pro 64.

So ineed a fresh install of current firmware using NSU?

Then to try update over the air?

I assume the upgrade is from the Nokia System Software Update repo. Could someone who has successfully upgraded OTA post their settings for that repo as as yet I'm seing nowt.

tablets-dev.nokia.com already has the GLOBAL variant of PR1.2 available.
Downloading now and then flashing with flasher.
Is it safe?

If I've got this right I think you need to flash not using Nokia Software Updater but with Maemo Flasher, which unfortunately doesn't play nice with 64 bit Windows. There are quite a few reasons why Over The Air flashing may not work, battery level being one of them. Have a look at this page on installing firmware:

I have a weird bug with the desktop customization...

When I go into customizing I can make all the changes but then when I hit done the button tears a little and stays blue, the bar does not hide and when I click the top of the screen I get the status bar menu. Only way to get rid is to randomly tap around until it goes away, not established a pattern yet.

Going to remove all Widgets and restart, see what happens...

Where has conversations gone? Thats pretty rubbish.

I'm UK, Vodafone but generic firmware (1.1.1) so I got the update OTA this afternoon.

Some guidance very much appreciated...

I'm in the uk. I checked the OTA update for PR1.2 and it pops up in menu list. Great, i thought, but when i try to do the OTA update it tells me i need to update via PC and Nokia Updater. I thought ok, no problem, but when i connect to PC and try NSU, the PC tells me i have the latest firmware update... I clearly don't.

I'm rapidly losing confidence in Nokia. Why is everything so long winded!

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Go with the 32bit XP Pro, that's what I used for the last update. Install Maemo flasher, download your update (and the vanilla eMMC flash file if you want to flash that whilst you're at it), to ProgramFiles\maemo\flasher-3.5\ and follow the steps here:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

Make sure when you type the command:

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

you use the EXACT filename for the file you put in ProgramFiles\maemo\flasher-3.5\

EDIT: If you flash the eMMC too you will lose EVERYTHING, so back up externally! (^_^)

You can. I just checked and it works like a charm. Just like everything else that has been changed in this update.

It seems clear that there are some issues with OTA downloads etc and that not everyone is able to receive them.

For god's sake people - It seems very likely that the nokia updater will be working from tomorrow. Stop winging on about how it isn't working today. As far as I can tell there was no official announcement that you would be able to use it today so there you go.

The word was it would be available this week. It has apparently been released for some customers in the UK and it has been added to the list of software for the N900 it it's various forms (Global, Indian etc etc)

If you are not able to update your phone OTA or via the Updater then you will have to wait one or two more days in order to do. The way people go from singing Nokia's praises to mindlessly berating them is mind blowing.

So either get the knowledge and the nuts up to flash the Global version and be bloody patient with it, or shut up and wait. You have waited long enough so two more days isn't going to kill you.

If you have broken your USB port or screwed your phone by balling up a needless eMMC flash it is your fault and no one else's. Especially not Nokia's or anyone on this site.

PR 1.2 Released today in the UK and tomorrow Globally

Sorry if this is old or if someone posted it already but I couldn't find any other topics like this. So here ya go!

http://www.nokian900forum.net/nokia-...te-release-1-2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7lHPX_iHKs

Attention Nokia N900 owners: there’s a new software update coming your way this week (UK release today, and global release tomorrow Wednesday, May 26). Version 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) comes offering a range of enhancements to the already bursting Maemo5 mobile computer. Join us after the jump to find out what’s in store.

First up – new games join the veritable arcade already on offer in Ovi Store. Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds (level pack), Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget are all available to keep you entertained. Important to note though that Ovi Store will do a full switchover this week Thursday, May 27, so these games and other for-purchase apps will show up then.

Next are the improvements to communication. Email has been improved with the ability to accept or decline an event invitation right there in your inbox, and Facebook IM chat has also been bundled in. The release also brings with it video calling, allowing users face-to-face chatting anywhere.

An additional update you will be pleased to hear about is portrait browsing on the internet is a-go on the N900. Ovi Maps also gets the update treatment with changes to the UI, improving the experience of finding your way around. And finally, there’s also a change to the menu system UI with the first level now customisable.

Moving away from the update and to look at MeeGo and the Nokia N900. Many of you have been asking whether the new MeeGo platform will be supported on the N900 once it’s device-ready. Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, we don’t have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900. The reason? It’s really about ensuring that you have the best possible experience designed for the features on your Nokia N900 device. Nokia realises this news may be a disappointment for some, rest assured that Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo software on your Nokia N900, as evidenced by the PR 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) update available today.

this question must have been asked like 100 times on this thread so far. If your being directed to NSU its because you dont have enough spaced in rootfs, in app manager deactivate everything except nokia software updates and uninstall any apps you dont need, you will need around 58mb of rootfs for OTA update, if you cant get that much then pr1.2 will be on NSU tomorrow or you can use the flasher 3.5 tool today, however remember to backup as only OTA will preserve your apps. Happy updating guys :)

At first I planned to wait for OTA, but then I did the math and figured I would do it at 1am and stay up half the night fiddling around. So I downloaded and flashed (via Ubuntu 64-bit) and found it to be both painless and quick. All my photos and contacts were intact, but all apps and desktop configurations were wiped out. And I had to re-enter my Exchange server settings and resync.

That gave me a chance to winnow my apps a bit, but I know I am going to find something I missed. Most apps (including extras for conversations) picked up my old settings (which are stored in the home directory, which doesn't get wiped).

Impressions:
Inbox widget is nice. N900 found my Windows 7 pc on the network in media player. Meeting requests can be answered (hooray!). I can't find the Facebook sharing or the facebook widget (I use it to share photos to facebook, but I don't really love the widget). App Manager seems much snappier, and doesn't bring the whole device to a grinding halt (though I haven't added extras-dev yet).

FOLLOWED THESE EXACT INSTRUCTIONS THIS MORNING AND HAD 100% SUCCESS. Remember to run BACKUP on your phone first as you will need it after you reboot with the new software.

Following instructions from here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_f...ndows_7_32-bit

Flashing using the command line

In order to flash directly from the XP/Vista/Windows 7 command line, follow these steps:

1. Download and install the latest version of Flasher e.g. maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe
2. Download the latest firmware (.bin) file and save it to %ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5\ (the default installation path for Flasher) or to the custom path of your choice.
3. Ensure the battery is at least half full.
4. Unplug charger cable and switch off the device.
5. Open the Command Prompt (Start then Run or Windows Logo key + R) and type cmd then press Enter.
6. Change the directory to the Flasher's path (TIP: Use the TAB key to auto-complete the commands and file-names)

cd "%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5"

7. Hold the u key on the device keyboard and connect the USB cable at the same time (see the Flasher documentation)
8. Run the following command:

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

Replace RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin with the firmware you wish to update (The name of the firmware image file you downloaded in the beginning).

The update will take approximately 4 minutes after which the N900 will reboot and display the Welcome Screen with Regional settings.
