When I tried to use the Nokia updater it said I had the newest release???

Grrr.. making no sense.

I'll check out memory - but I've not much on the phone, so I can't see why that would be the problem.

Just looked as disc usage and its tiny - lots of space in each cat.

How else can I update the firmware, as I'm assuming the nokia updater is not up to date.

i saw a video where it was shown that the leaked 1.2 version allowed a short cut for portrait mode in other applications than the browser, like the email client for e.g

is this possible only with pressing ctrl shift and r or can this be set in the options to rotate by default in the official version? which other applications can now be rotated?

Wondering the same. I suspect we'll have to wait until tomorrow for OTA, but I suppose that will be clear if it hasn't arrived by around lunchtime :)

i can see the update, have 64 free on root fs, but still saying i have to use my pc to update, anyideas why i am on tmobile in portsmouth uk

yes, again, me too...that's why i went down the uninstalling stuff route- made a list and now reinstalling...bit of a pain but i've got the morning off :D

Hmmm - how long did pr 1.2 take to complete the update process - mines been stuck at the "U" on updating in progress for more than 10mins now. Should I worry? Now off to dog walk so I'll check again when back

Got some flashing problems here.
I decided to flash Rootfs and then eMMC.

So I followed the wiki.
- 1st flash rootfs, without -R
- Then without dissconnecting or anything flash eMMC

But after flashing rootfs, windows started reinstalling the n900 usb drivers cause "it's a new device all of a sudden" it lost connection to it and the eMMC part does not recognize the phone.
Now, the phone is stuck after rootfs flash, and did not reboot cause I didn't put -R.

Should I reboot it myself? take out the battery? what should I Do?

Flashed Global, everything seems to be working apart from unable to click on the 'spanner' icon on the new email widget.

But you compared Maemo to Symbian. The fact Nokia offers both OSes doesn't mean they are the same or that the technologies are similar.

Everybody seems to be quite nervous about this update,
however, I wonder if it may be possible that somebody give me a hint what versions I have to download from nokia.
I can find OS 2009 versions and PR1.2 versions.
What's the difference?my n900 is a global version 3.2010.....

UK was last to get the update last time, so we are first this time. Apart from us loyal Vodafail users....(Again, I am flashing manauly myself later).

upgraded OTA (had about 55MB free in rootfs - now 73MB).

1. during restart you are prompted to (re)register with nokia to recieve hints & tips for n900. I did so but it failed cos i have hideuseragent for facebook. you can complete the reg. later from settings.

2. i got an operation failed message after the phone restarted I assume it was the above failure - though nokia sent me a text about the failed registration too?)

3. all the contact shortcuts on my desktop have dissapeared

4. no flash 10, iPlayer still works as before

5. network data counter now has home & roaming, with optional alerts over specified thresholds. Personal dataplan widget unchanged at present.

6. when microb opens a new web page, the zoom level is the same as that of the previous page (so, if i enlarged the 'page' box on TMO to select the next one, when that page loads it is zoomed in to the same degree)

thats my initial observations.

I spoke too soon, had problems with apt-get upgrade, exited xterm to try to set up WiFi, phone crashed and it's now in a reboot loop. Fun ;)

Huh? I'm talking about basic phone features, they should understand very well what to provide, such as, contacts grouping, individual ringtone assignments, sms storing in folders, profiles, etc.

Nokia is well known of provide good phone functionality and easy to use even before Symbian, when they launched Symbian devices, they've make it better and better.

Suddenly, this Maemo is like totally from another company which have no experience with phones.

Fine, initially they don't provide it, I'm willing to give up my "hook" to those features. I've never been willing to change to other platform or devices, but N900 and Maemo is able to make me let go.
Sadly, until today, there is no improvements in these areas, despite it's by Nokia.

It may not be important, but similarly, it is not something that cannot be done. It's pretty disappointing that they neglected these phone features, and previous there was a post about an interview with someone from Nokia and more it's a disappointment to read.

All I can say is, don't be like Apple or Steve. If there no such features, admit it's the weakness, don't twist and turn and find excuses that it's not needed and so on.

Flashed mine from the leaked without any issues. However, I do feel a bit like the child who found and played with their xmas presents two weeks before the event...

Hi, Can I not use the Nokia Software Updater to update to PR1.2? I have a Vodafone version and so far OTA download has not come up!:mad:
