Not sure what land you live in, but I would really like to live there! Android on the N900 is not at all ready for adoption...

Dreamland 123 in the Andromeda Galaxy (M31),

Well I saw videos on Youtube where Android was already working quite nice on the N900.

I will not do it. I have HTC Touch HD and HTC Hero, N900 is the best. In those 1000's of app u will find only few useful and fully working apps.

Hi, im new :)

Does anyone think theyre really going to be satisfied with android devices? Android ditches their hardware like every two months because theyre never upgrade compatible. The g1 is at 1.6, motoblur devices are at 1.5, and chances are that the droid and the incredible wont get froyo... or wont get it as soon as nexus. and by the time they do gingerbread will obsolete them. why bother investing in android now?

Remember the N900 is fully programmable so to port android or a full android os would not be difficult at all in the very near future.
Why you wanna sell the N900 is beyond me cos for sure you will soon learn to regret that decision !.

You've gotta be more specific and provide more factual backup to be taken seriously here. Especially here.

As far as I know, all mobile devices sold today are pretty much 'fully programmable', even iPhones. Well, except probably those low end ROM based devices.

Aren't we the pot calling the kettle black here? At least for their current systems most will get Froyo. We know we won't ever get MeeGo-Harmattan.

BTW, I tried my friend's DROID, and wasn't that impressed. Tried a friend's Incredible and man that thing was smooth. I felt like I could surf on that thing all day long, felt as responsive as my laptop. I thought I'd miss my keyboard but you know what, a nicely implemented soft keybard isn't all half bad. If I had the money I'd join the Android bandwagon, at least for a year or two until Nokia got their act together.

Re: Sell your N900 and buy an Android phone!

My N900 is completely dead now but prior to that has been nothing but a frustration since day one to be honest. Was planning on getting a Desire but there is a rumoured version of the Desire that has a full keyboard coming out soon so will definitely wait.

However, N900 is really the device for me due to the 32gb storage plus microsd card slot as I use it as mp3/mp4 player and the super Conboy app. Just wish mine had worked well. Or that HTC would release a device with 32gb memory. Why only microsd? If it is to keep the device as slim as possible iphone has already shown ages ago you can have slim form with loads of internal memory storage.

What we need that will come very soon is a completed os with a proper platform structure unlike the one we have at the moment as the development platform used in the 900 and if you look at developments currently underway for the 900 you will soon see things will come together eventually.
There is a thread on here that goes on about this but i don't have the time to find it right now, its something to do with Nokia's future development, wait till i get back later and i will find it ok.
My only concern and i have said this before is whilst we are waiting the hardware is getting outdated in our device but i have some idea's that i will bring forward soon regarding upgrading the camera to 12mp and my own work not mentioned before about overclocking but with protection against overheating.
And also there is djsteve's droid thread that's interesting to watch.
Anyhow later as i got to go go go.

I must be daft, but what did you mean by 'proper platform structure'?
And 'things will come together eventually' seems very... very... vague.

Ok. If you remember who posted it or some of the keywords mentioned there, that would help also.

IMHO, the hardware is generally fine.
I don't see mobile apps going exponentially more complex and blood thirsty (cpu wise), so I'm betting that Cortex A8 will have a relatively long lifetime for 90% of mobile apps that will come up out there. UNLESS, one tries to do desktop computing on it (hooked to external monitor, etc).

maybe , if there was an Android phone with similar hardware to n900

Here is something you will learn from and something Nokia no way implemented on the OS of the 900 simply because the 900's os was developed for developers use.
Its all about PROPER structuring of an os so please read ok.

Now a better version of QT has arrived, this should bring cross platform apps for both symbian and maemo... Symbian has a LOT of apps, so its only a matter of time before all those start appearing for Maemo, wouldn't jump ship just yet!

i think the best would be that the best codedr who are develops with the n900 come together and say bye bye maemo and bye bye meego... and then lets develop a good working android for n900 and other nokia devices.... lets give nokia a kick in the ***.....

No OTA yet.

The OVI store is supposed to get a big revamp and there should be a bunch of new apps.

Quote:

First up – new games join the veritable arcade already on offer in Ovi Store. Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds (level pack), Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget are all available to keep you entertained. Important to note though that Ovi Store will do a full switchover this week Thursday, May 27, so these games and other for-purchase apps will show up then.

Re: Sell your N900 and buy an Android phone!

N900 has not a so big app store as Iphone/android stores? And, so what?

- 95% of these apps are [censored] crap apps, like small useless games, tools which are all the same (or nearly), and not free.
- Hardwares are different, but N900 is reliable, almost stable (no reboot or freezes for me)
- Usefull apps are present on the Repositories, then choose which are usefull for your usage.

Maemo is more a community than a business club. have a look on threads here, helping each other offers much interest than download, use, and finally remove apps. We share, discovers the possibilites of our smartphone,

For sure, this community is really smaller than others... and? What's the problem? I can assume that reduces the app repo, increase waiting about one specific soft, but is it really a problem?

I can't understand coms like "It is [censored] too small, the others products have much apps". You can't buy a mobile like the N900 without understanding that is a really specific world. It's not like installing Windows on a PC! If you choose Linux on your desktop, you must know that there's some points where Windows is "better" (commercial games for example).

So... stop crying: you're not happy with your N900? Sell it to somebody who'll appreciate the "spirit" of an open OS, a quite nice community, and go lock yourself with commercial solutions of the other products.
