Windows Phone 7
Today I'm going to talk Windows Phone 7 what I like and don't like about it. http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keat...ws-phone-7.jpg
What I like about it 1. The user interface is really nice an clean. 2. It doesn't look like anything I've seen before. 3. The Zune features look pretty cool too I used to own a Zune but very crappy piece of hardware nice multimedia feature liked it before the thing broke on me. 4. The Xbox features look pretty cool granted I don't own an Xbox 360 but for any Xbots this should be perfect. 5. Will be nice and easy to use because this is the only thing that I have seen so far that compares to the smoothness of the iPhone. What I don't like and boy is there a lot to hate. 1. The platform will be closed like the iPhone Microsoft why do you have to do this now they said wouldn't be strict about there developer policy so I will wait to give my final judgment on that policy. 2. The system requirements are way to high like 1ghz cpu, 3d accelerator, 8gb of storage, 3 special back, search, and Windows button, at least a 5mp camera with at least dual led flash and fm radio tuner. Why must there be these weird system requirements. 3. Lacks basic features like multitasking, it doesn't have adobe flash but will be getting it, no copy and paste, and no expansion slots. 4. There is no native app development so it might suffer from the problems palm pre had with apps I will wait to see about this. Overall I'm very disappointed with this but most people won't be sure most people aren't hackers or enthusiasts but that doesn't mean it consumer friendly device can't be a hacker friendly one to I mean come on I will probably buy older Windows mobile device because that everything this doesn't have. Ok there is already this same post in buy and sell posted in the wrong area reposting here. |
Re: Windows Phone 7
Thanks for that review and it looks like Android might be the way if Nokia doesn't get their act together.

Re: Windows Phone 7
It sure seems to have an interesting UI, and its pretty feature rich. I'll be able to play with it at work just as soon as the devices start to roll out, which is pretty exciting.
The phone specs are really high in comparison to whats needed to run Android phones, kinda makes me feel like Microsoft cant really be arsed to optimise the code much, so they're just gonna rely on brute power to get it through. Speculation though, I reserve judgement untill I get to sit down with it for a couple of hours. |
Re: Windows Phone 7
I don't get their selling point. They've had mass exodus from their platform to bb/android/iphone over the past 2-3 years. It's gonna take a lot to pull people back into their fold.

I think lack of native applications and super high and weird system requirements will keep the platform from gaining any steam.

Re: Windows Phone 7
I lost all interest the moment I found out it would be locked down iPhone-style.

Re: Windows Phone 7
The Zune, Xbox, and Office features will be the draws. Zune is the best multimedia experience out there. Xbox is arguably one of the best, and even if you feel like Playstation is better, its still the best platform out of any offerings companies in the Phone market might be associated with. Office will be a massive draw for Corporate markets.
From my experience in OS development, I know that it is POSSIBLE for "non-native" languages to be faster than "native" languages because it is possible for those non-native ones like C# to be trusted. This means they can run in ring 0, removing all overhead associated with context switching. Furthermore C# will obviously be JIT'd so will approach native speed anyway. Together native apps don't look so attractive anymore. Of course I have no idea if this is actually what will happen on Windows Phone 7. For me, the Zune will be the biggest draw. I love me some media and Zune has grown leaps and bounds better than Apple in every possible category. Plus I love coding in C# and XNA is awesome to work with. |

Re: Windows Phone 7
I wouldn't say they're 'stupid' per say. Sure, this will be aimed at consumers and business people, but I'm also waiting for it. Open Source is fun and awesome but hackers like challenges. They want to break into things that they shouldn't be getting into. Example: The only reason I'd buy an apple product would be to jail break it.
Now just replace apple with Windows Phone 7 phone and you have the reason I'm excited about the OS. Especially with microsoft forcing the makers to provide high end specs. Which could work as an advantage in the long term; no longer will we have to worry about a hack working across a wide verity of products because of the technical specs. Microsoft wants only High-Mid to High-End range phones for their operating system. By setting the specs so high it forces the manufacturers to do some real innovation or to always try and get better parts if they want to sell their phone. No more cheap pieces of junk. |

The issue may not be so bad with WinMo7 but I do remember seing some really poor WinMo6 devices. By forcing them to have a decent spec they avoid a slew of crap phones making their new SmartPhone OS look bad. Imagine if the N900 only came with a 300MHz CPU and no GPU. People would think Maemo is awful. Or go and use an N97 for a few days and see why people are slagging off the latest version of Symbian. |

Re: Windows Phone 7
Well it looks like it has decent email and social networking support, voice recognition and lots of eye candy.
Nothing that appeals to me too much. |
Re: Windows Phone 7
I kinda like it. It does appear to do the functionality of a smartphone smartly and clearly. I will surely be looking forward to buying one.
