GPS gone crazy in PR1.2

Has anybody got any idea's on how to fix my GPS? In ovi maps it shows me to be 600-700 meters away from where i actually am. I have tried flashing but firmware and emmc and have had no luck. I have read about issues in china and maybe some underlying map data issue but im at a loss now. Does anyone know what could be up? or if anyone knows how to/of any fixes? if not should i contact nokia? otherwise loving the N900. The device I have longed for all my life!

since 1.2 its never changed from coarse accuracy when ever i use it. couldn't tell on the motorway because i was driving but i left it connected for 2 hours and my possition was always off by about 700 meters, as if im driving in the fields. when im at home it shows me about 4-5 streets from where i am. it used to work fine but now its just giving me a head ache

EDIT: I get fine accuracy with both online and offline mode

i tried that the other day and it failed to get a lock at all.

i've noticed once it gets a lock and i turn the gps off, if i turn the gps back on it never locks on, i have to reboot to get it to lock on again

Re: GPS gone crazy in PR1.2

I am having a slightly different problem. It's showing my location (red dot) correctly, when I do a search and press "route to" it calculates the route from A (GPS location) to B (searched location), however A is not my GPS location and not near enough to the red dot. It's showing A as 2 roads down from mine which is more than 700 meters away, there is even a railway line between. This is a problem because the purple line showing the route starts from A which I cannot follow. Just to clarify the red dot dynamically showing my location is still correct and seems to be updating fine, I use both internal GPA and network for positioning.

I use the map application regularly and never had issues picking up the location or routing with the previous firmware.

I've been using the google thing since day 1 and my lock has been pretty accurate.

Try this supl.google.com:7276

Got it from here http://groups.google.com/group/andro...acd01452?pli=1

Try this "h-slp.mnc002.mcc240.pub.3gppnetwork.org"

Might not work but worth the shot

nosa.. there's a question.. when u disable the network position option, the server will be useless (nokia, google or any other) isn't it?
i've tried google server as per us suggestion, but it's the same.. & i've disabled the network position & also same result!

Re: GPS gone crazy in PR1.2

Network Positioning uses cell towers to get a lock faster. Turning it off means you are resorting to raw gps data

I think this thing has gone over my head now. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the matter could help

That is interesting........any idea where this one is located in orbit?

For the record, my GPS is working perfectly in the Pacific Northwest using the default server.

I dont think N900 has network positioning , it is very inaccurate and I dont see any options to enable or disable it.

supl.nokia.com or google provide A-GPS functionality and AFAIK it has nothing to do with cell towers, they are called assistance servers which supply orbital data

Doesn't A-GPS use triangulation? That's how network providers locate people for the cops. Wouldn't that use cell towers?

On my N95 8Gb there were two settings , Assisted GPS and network positioning, If i only used network positioning my position was very inaccurate ,( I used both Nokia Maps and Google maps) near the highway where the cell tower was but if I only used assisted it took 30 secs more but with accuracy about 5-10 meters..so I dont know maybe they integrated both in N900 but IMO network positioning sucks

At least there is something strange in Qt applications using GPS. After PR 1.2 apps can't get coarse location information (A-GPS / network).

Here's an easy fix:
Move 600 meters.

Same problem for me.

EXIF of pictures was on the spot

After PR 1.2 I am 600 meters of course.

Isn't the problem with incorrect GPS location - proven by pictures whose EXIF data show the wrong location - caused by getting a fix *indoors* ?

I most of the time have a non-*fine* accuracy (a 'coarse accuracy'). I first see this in your picture that this is possible.

The solution then - in a city - should be: go to a open spot (wide road, park f.i.) and do a GPS-fix again.

(and disable the GPRS internet connection beforehand?)

Re: GPS gone crazy in PR1.2

I have a similar problem. Using modrana it tracks the position spot on, and comparing the GPS coords with my E71 they are both the same hence the GPS data itself should be fine.

But location shown on Ovi Maps is wrong by over 100m. I'm not sure whether this is caused by my copying my E71 maps data directory over to the N900 (to save downloading them again). I'll probably try trashing that directory and let the N900 download map data on the fly to see whether that fixes it.
