Haha. I'm trying to buy the Angry Birds level pack and Ovi is saying that the address I'm entering for my credit card isn't correct. It has red boxes around the state field and zip code field. The state field and zip code field clearly say to use the 2-digit state abbreviation and 5-digit zip. That's exactly what I'm using. I'm pretty sure neither of those have changed.

Weird?

Fair point - but I must also point that that Maemo is a dead end as Meego is taking over, whereas Andriod has CONTINUITY.

So our positions are different - users of andriod phones can be assured of future apps, whereas if apps are not there now for Maemo, well I doubt developers will rushing to develop for such a small userbase now for money (how many software houses want to make stuff Maemo compatible ? many dont even KNOW about maemo when I ask) - seems the wiser course is to wait till Meego comes before committing.

Yes I know all about QT "compatibility", but until Meego is finalised, would a dev use it, knowing that Meego is a WIP that may not get traction ?

Just doesnt make sense from a $$$ perspective.

It remains to see if Symbian^3 will gain traction.

Nokia has been pushing qt heavily. There must be a reason

it dont need much traction nokia alone sell over 80 million units running on symbian a year.
also s60v3 and s60v5 support Qt too, that means 100's of millions of devices potentially with Qt support already out there

Re: Ovi Store Update

So this doesn't apply to N900?

What happens if I lose my Ovi Store downloads?

You can re-download any content by signing into Ovi Store and accessing My Stuff as long as the content is still available.

If you have lost any purchased content items, please contact Nokia Care at https://www.ovi.com/services/support/care stating your Ovi username and the name of the content item you wish to re-download.

Note that your new device must be compatible with your previous downloads.

Note that purchased content can be re-downloaded only up to 5 times.

What sort of crap is this? :P I'm believe it's true, but..

When I buy something 'ungrabbable' like these games (I prefer cd'/dvd's, boxes etc.), I'd like to be sure to always have access to it. When I buy a boxed PC game, I can install it anytime I want, but in this case my bought product could simply be gone? :P 5 times download limit? unbelievable hahah

And whether I have a Nokia 2110 or a phone that can beat my Quadcore PC, I want to download the app, whether I'll install it or not..
Is it possible to download the .deb package, or whatever contains the product, after purchase? (backup)

On a sidenote: I can't buy apps from Ovi Store anyway, I don't have a credit card, and probably never will :P

I think they're slowly uploading (or rather making the apps available). I think Angry Birds Level Pack 1 came out first, then the MorphPanoramic one.

I am a fanboy because I don't give a sh*t about the Ovi Store?

I LOL'd

Most of the apps coming to the Ovi Store are going to be paid apps and seeing as I am a cheap b*stard, I could care less.

Some of you act like this Ovi Store is the end all be all.

You need to quit overreacting. It is just an app store...life goes on

The problem is that having a viable application store is widely seen as a "table stakes" feature for smart-phones. In other words, without it, don't even bother showing up to play.

Ovi store and the various Ovi services were widely advertised at launch and many people bought the device assuming it would be functional when they got it. Nokia even made setting up an Ovi Store account part of their rebate requirement. For it to have taken six months to reach even this basic level of functionality is indicative of a huge failure to execute as a viable player in the smart-phone market.

So you concerned about the company's standing in the market? Or are you concerned about your device?

The Ovi store represents a tiny fraction of the apps available.
There are plenty of apps availble and others in development in the repositories.

I haven't looked in Ovi store yet. However, i am quite impressed with what i can get, all for free, in Extras.

I agree it's ridiculous what Ovi has (not) accomplished in the last six months, but I am a bit curious: what do people expect to get out of Ovi given the niche status of Maemo?

I am concerned about buying a device for $600 based on claims of functionality or functionality that was explicitly labeled as "coming soon" that has yet to show up. To site a few specific examples;

-Ovi Store (just now coming online 6 plus months later)
-Ovi Maps, which was an absolute joke at launch and still isn't as functional as the version they give away free for virtually every other phone they make.
-Ovi Suite / PC Suite integration. Still not released, but reports from Beta testers indicate that a version with most features functional will be released at some point.
-The biggest issue of course, and the one that really has the community in flames is that Nokia really represented to the community that the N900 would be a little raw at release, but not to worry, because Harmattan would be just over the horizon. We all know how that worked out.

I feel like Nokia made promises of future functionality, misrepresentations & outright lies of present functionality and generally broke covenant with their customers in order to sell a device they had no intention from the start of supporting over even a minimal span of time. It has been six months and already the community can see the darkness closing in.

So what do you do when life gives you lemons?

I bought my device knowing it was unfinished. I wanted to contribute to its development. The apps in extras are a lot better than anything the Ovi Store has to offer and they are free.

But i can understand your disappointment. I just don't think continuos whining about how Nokia screwed us over is going to fix anything.

We've made lemonade, why are we still complaining that life gave us lemons?

And the big boss at the top is laughing his ***** of right now, buying a new mercedes from your and everyone else his 600 dollars

Maybe in 10 years the ovi store will have twice as many apps as now. hahahah that means, still nothing!

RocketMan: Yes, I agree completely. Nokia should at least live up to these promises. In the end, it's their choice if they want to keep their customers or not. If this doesn't get any better, I have to admit it's an expensive ~$600 mistake, but there's no doubt I do it only once.
