Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
Something that is annoying me for some time now: On the N810 the browser had an option called Fit width to view. I could zoom in and out like I wanted and the text an a website was always reflowed to fit the screen.
Is there any such option for the N900 browser? When I zoom in the text is never reflowed, lines are cut off and I always have to scroll to the right and back. Am I the only one having this problem? Or am I missing something? Thanks for your hints. |

hmm. For me double tapping textarea/(div) gives exact zoom for that area. But I know what feature you are missing and IIRC there is some shortcut for it maybe ctrl-shift-i. Althought I think developing reflow so that it works correctly ( if itīs even possible ) for browser might be actually waste of time and could lead to support of lazy web developers. But thatīs another story :)

Thanks for your replies. Ctrl+shift+I doesn't seem to work. And I almost broke my fingers trying to press it :D
Any other ideas? |
Re: Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
Its a tough one, i like how it is implemented on the iPhone, however there are drawbacks in that it changes the design and layout of the page. All in all as a consumer I will use what ever because either option has triadoffs. but for now I like the fact that my page renders the way it was designed, and i zoom in on it.

This feature always worked sporadically - unfortunately since 1.2 it hardly works at all.
Perhaps a status bar area applet could be developed that reflows text ? |
Re: Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
Ctrl-Shift-i still works after PR 1.2, but not the same way as it used to. After loading a page (for some stupid reason, Nokia guys have not made this setting as an option in settings. Many pages need reflow to avoid horizontal scrolling) click the lower right corner arrow first to leave the full screen mode and then try Ctrl-SHift-i.
For some reason the key combination in full screen mode just opens the URL-field. |

Re: Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
The reflow shortcut (Ctrl+shift+I) works _only_ if the menubar is visible. Else it just brings up the "location bar".
See http://forums.internettablettalk.com...ad.php?t=64241 So, if you want to resize the page, zoom in to the desired level, press the lower right button to enable the top menubar and press the shortcut. |

Applying this keyboard-combo does something, but it doesn't reflow the text. Look at the two screenshots, the first was taken before pressing CTRL+Shift+I, the second afterwards. http://i.imgur.com/Pq686.png http://i.imgur.com/YlOam.png So something happens, but not what I wish would happen. This is the only reason the browser is not usable for me. Which is a shame, because I really like it otherwise. I have to use Opera for most sites, but would much rather use microB with Greasemonkey and all the other goodies. I tried to set the text size to large because i read that it should help, but alas this also didn't fix it. |
Re: Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
For ctrl+shift+i to work the option to autofocus the url bar must be DISabled.
But even then it can not compete with Opera or Firefox4 reflow. |
Re: Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
Opera reflow is spot on every time, as you zoom in and out it auto reflows to fit. Opera on the N900 is great for reading i.e. TMO as you can double-tap to auto zoom to a thread topic and it just works.

Re: Zooming a Website in the Browser doesn't reflow Text
Every once in a while browserd's inability to reflow properly is annoying to me, but I normally don't run into situations where I really need to. Double tabbing on a paragraph or div-box does the job wonderfully for me.
