N900 Media Payer Embedded Cover Art Not Displaying
 

I have a series of singles in MP3 format that have their covers embedded in their tags (by mp3tag), but, try as I might, I just can't get them to show up in the N900's media player. The covers are in jpeg format, and are 600x600, and show up fine in Winamp.

What am I doing wrong? :confused:

I've used Mussorgsky to grab external album covers, and that works, but these are singles, and as such, don't have the album field specified.

What is the N900 media player supposed to support?

I've been playing with this a lot more, and I think I've spotted the problem.

The media player only seems to extract the artwork when you browse the album view, but not when you just play songs. When you browse the album view, it extracts the covers and saves them in the ".mediaartlocal" directories. It also doesn't seem too good at updating them when they've changed.

I noticed the media player doesn't show art from ID3v2.4 tags. Check if yours are 2.4 and try retagging with 2.3.

Good call. I had to re-index to get them to show up (yet, weirdly they showed up in the now playing view !), but I now have all of them showing. I was wondering why some worked and others didn't!

How to get Mediaplayer to show cover art that I placed in the ".mediaartlocal" folder inside the album directory?

There isn't a way to do this manually.

the app mussorgsky seems to work the best 99% of the time...

Having decided to try to get just three album's cover art correctly displaying in my N900 Media Player, I happened across this thread, and thank goodness I did – since, as wasserkuhl so helpfully points out...

It's only been and gone and sorted out ALL 120+ albums' cover art, acquiring images from teh interwebz for all the music tracks it found on my N900! Mussorgsky's 'Automatic download' option didn't always get the right image, but since it gives you the option to choose which of a span of relevant cover art images should be associated with a particular album, the fine-tuning is up to you – and it's a pleasure rather than a chore, IMO. Many thanks for the heads up, wasserkuhl – a grand tip, indeed.
