Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

Hi N900 user!

When i and my friend update pr1.2, our camera goes to 3M settings automatic! So change it back to 3,5M (widescreen) or 5M (4:3). Maybe this is why your picture is so bad quality.

I agree! video jammed so bad! somebody do something about that!

Very nice. I've always wanted to see one of those cool red and white mushrooms. I'm not sure they grow here.

Here's one of mine. Not artistic or challenging, but it turned out nice.

For day shot, no problem.... but for night shot.... I have tried many different settings and found all night pictures are no good....

If I remove the back cover, the night picture become better.....

"J' updated the first post with new photographs, my short opinion (without technical comments) on the 3: - N82, is always with the signal after a long time of its exit, unbeatable flash, management of l' correct exposure, but lack of clearness (can be corrected by adjustments), closer colorimetry with reality, captures subjects moving without complications! - N900, c' is l' one of the 3 which surprises me more, clear photographs, colorimetry more " plaisante" to see (lives), but the double led is too weak and has evil under the conditions with weak luminosity. - N86? Flaghship of the Nokia photophones? Can be on paper, not actually… finally… l' experiment user is poor: opening of the release --> it is necessary to have patience more than 3 seconds to have l' object on the sight!"

LOL @ "double LED has evil under the conditions with weak luminosity." Couldn't have said it better myself...

I'd say looking through those that the N900 is tied for the lead except whenever the evil flash comes on.

MEN:eek: THATS AWFUL! My N900 doesn't not take pictures that bad!!

I think something is wrong with your device because since I have my N900 I don't need a camera and almost all my pictures are at night because I like to go to clasic concerts at night.

for Video, use the internal eMMC for storage otherwise your video will get frames lag and also stuttering often. WIth internal eMMC you get less stuttering.

As long as you can stay to ISO 100 and 200 and good light. Then you will get very nice result.
But with bad lightsource you can use the flash but then take the pictures quite close to the object for the flash to reach. Its pointles to try to picture a whole room.
And its better with a little darker picture with ISO 100 then a granular and brighter with ISO 400.
Sometimes you have to force the camera to use a certain white balance because the automatic mode have dificultis to dermite what to use. And in some cases Exposure could help, but it not much.

Here is some good pictures in good light.

This was very interesting. I have owned all 3 of these phones. But not at the same time, so never made a comparison.

I was really looking at the n86 vs the n900 in day shots here, and looks like the n900 had better looking pictures. More natural colors, and the n86 always had a blue tinge to all the pictures (much like the n82 has a yellowish).

Unfortunately those are all downsized, so can't look at the detail blown up, but would expect the n86 to have better detail due to more mp. But the n900 had better pictures.

And also the n86 is better in low light with and without a flash. As long as you set it on a timer, we all know the shutter button on the n86 horrible and you will never get a steady shot by pressing it.

The bottom line is the n900 is a decent camera. But the flash sucks, never use it. Unless you're in a pitch black room and think you see an alien, and its either a horrible picture with a blue tint, or nothing at all, then its ok to use the flash. But never expect a picture that the flash was used to look good from the n900. Other than that, steady hand, the more light the better, and play with the settings.

Makeclick thanks but it'a already at 3.5.

I have heard that if you change or remove (or I don't know what else) the cover of the lens then this makes the photos to look better. Is this right or false info?

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

I spent like 15 minutes taking pictures and they are pretty much same quality. Some better some worse. I picked these 2 to show my problem.
First of, I suck at configuring stuff and don't know what is what and what to choose so I had everything on automatic and quality at max(5).
First picture was taken in my room, it wasn;t dark had lots of light coming from the window and flash went off too.
Second picture was on balcony(parts of motorcycle lol) but you can still see bad quality on black thing etc...
I can provide more if you tell me how and what to change, I'll also take night pic in few hours when it gets dark.
Oh and also pictures are always huge and when I reduce size in photoshop(to 33%, or first to 50% then 75%) quality seems to drop too hmm....

Took 2 more pics, light was very bright from ceiling and I took 1 with and other without flash. Wall paint isn't smooth but colors just look strange on it.
And here's resized one, you can see colors around on blue that seem strange.

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

no_limit,
you probably meant that looking pictures from larger screen 1:1 without zoom makes them look crappy? it's normal if you wonder.

No_LiMiT 2010-06-13 23:23

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

Quality of colors is visually worse when using windows program. It's old problem that I had when installed win7 that should have been fixed. Oh well, will format and reinstall once SP1 is out.

Maybe it's all about editing, I'll take some pics outside tomorrow and play around in photoshop with them, but thing is it comes out foggy/cloudy, like pics on top of screen, that's what is annoying me.

slender 2010-06-14 07:42

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

No_LiMiT,
Hmm. I have to ask to be sure: Do you know that shutter button has two steps? First you press it gently half way and screen shows with green rectangle if it´s focused, red if not, and then gently squeeze it down while keeping hands as steady as possible. Preferably try to find some way to lock position e.g. use doors frame to steady it etc..

Try to fool around with settings. Take same picture many times with different settings and see how it affects the quality of image.

And try to avoid flash. It really ruins images. This is mainly outdoor camera (good lightning) as most of pocket cameras.

cmsjkung 2010-06-14 13:54

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

I have tried many different settings, and I can confirm no flash with good light which can help N900 produce a better picture......

But I can also confirm my previous 5800 and N95 can do the same tasks much much more better than N900......

Hope Nokia will provide firmware upgrade to improve the camera quality for all the way to take picture.....

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

cmsjkung,

Hmm when browsing flickr and looking n95 and n900 pics I´m pretty much sure that n900 pictures are much sharper and color is better. IMO overall. But how n900 camera behaves and how settings are controlled could be probably better but still quality seems to be very subjective.

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

I'm really happy with the camera in the n900 (and I'm still just using auto setting)

I use it to take pictures of all sorts of stuff:

Nature:
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...ent-FIDCEV.jpg

Statues:
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...ent-6I7HEV.jpg

Macro fotos of bugs:
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...ent-ASG8DV.jpg

and ofc. my cock:
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...ent-CSB5DV.jpg :D

Reading about some posters problems with blue hue when using flash I just took theese two:

First one is taken using the 5mp setting and everything on auto
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...ent-G4VBEV.jpg

Second one is taken using same settings but just a little further away... and there you can see a bit of blue up in the right corner
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...ent-AFD6DV.jpg

Not sure exactly what is doing it but I don't see it as a huge problem as I rarely use the flash for other than party pictures where the quality really doesn't matter much ;)

Re: Bad Camera Quality N900

Wow, those are some nice pictures, why aren't my pretty like that :(

Anyhow, just went through facebook and found some old ones, now watch this, same night and I don't remember what exactly I changed, doubt it was just flash:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...3_560085_n.jpg
And yes, I know fb reduces picture size and quality, but this doesn't look that bad so it might all have something to do with lightening and size :p

Would be interesting to know what the difference between the first tow photos was.
Do you still have the original pictures with the EXIF data, that might provide some clues?
