ok, so it's a crazy stretch, but I submitted Witter anyway, I figured that it didn't take much effort to enter it, so worth a shot ;-)

How about a global search app, that can search contacts, applications, media etc..? Like in Android right from the desktop.

I have seen this in my friends Nokia E90 Communicator as well, where he searches for apps just by typing the name.

Just a suggestion.

I would gladly pay for an app to do that!

I've suggested and wanted this so many times. Even better, make a plugin system for it so you can send tweets and facebook updates from it. Kinda like Quicksilver for MAC or Gnome Do for Linux.

And now this event is over and we know the winners in all categories, but nothing about that special prizes.:( Even about the winners we don't know much: application, authors and country. That's all... No videos, no screenshots, no platform, even nothing about what that apps do. Very strange competition...
Does anybody know which apps have won special prizes for the best N900 app and the best cross-platform Qt app?

I think a Google-Streetview-like application called City scape won the first place, and we saw a demo for it on N900 inside Nokia World.

So it should be released sometime (if ever) :)

Looks again like marketing gone bad. It´s somehow impressive how they mange to pull off this stuff repeatably. Do they have any management in marketing?

I forgot about that $50,000 pricetag on the contest. Why, for not far from the same price, they could have hired Texrat for a year, I imagine!

Total prize money is $500K (although I could only count $375K).

I have prompted them for a date, hopefully soon.

So this was announced on 6-1 with a headline of ten days to go and the name of Quim Gil was invoked.

Now, after the contest is over the jury is deciding on categories??

Let's do that with the Oscars -- have the nominations first and decide the categories later!

It sounds pretty messed up to me.

There were "best XXX" apps for platforms other than Maemo, IIRC.

Re: Best application for the Nokia N900: $50,000 in cash - 10 days to go

Looks like they have updated it (21.09)

http://www.callingallinnovators.com/
  • Best application for the Nokia N900 (prize will be split between two developers): Stellarium Mobile by Fabien Chéreau (Germany) and FrontView900 by ABen Lau (Hong Kong)
  • Best cross-platform application using Qt: Morpho QuickPanorama by Morpho, Inc. (Japan/United States)
  • Best utility: WakeUp by Roland Michelberger (Hungary)
---

From where I can find last one?

.edit
And where are the two last ones?
  • Best mobile computing application: $50,000 (USD) in cash, plus the winner of this special prize will be included in a multi-million dollar global marketing campaign that will be used to help promote the winning app.
  • Best locally relevant application with global potential: $15,000 (USD) in cash.

.edit
Wrong stellarium link fixed

Re: Best application for the Nokia N900: $50,000 in cash - 10 days to go

It's really strange, because by the rules of the contest every finalist must be in the Ovi store and WakeUp is a finalist in the Productivity category.
Also by the rules cross-platform app must have a desktop version. I was unable to find QuickPanorama for any desktop platform.

I'm not a troll, I just want to learn something new from the winners, but I can't find them.:(

Note that "Stellarium" != "Stellarium Mobile" (so the link is not right). The latter one should be more snappy.

Oh, yes. And it's another strange thing here: by the rules it must be a stable release, not beta (or I've misunderstood the rules?). Anyway I'd state that CAI'2010 was a very interesting experience for me, but it's in the past. Maybe CAI'2011 will be better.
