Fixed a small layout bug. The date on the left side and
the calendar colour icon on the right side are over the
background image border for some custom themes.

Any chance of being able to resize the widget, width wise?

nicolai 2011-01-13 08:15

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Free adjustment of the width, or a list with
some width presettings (half-sized, double-sized ...)?

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Nicolay , i have a suggestion , would it be possible make a way to daily events not show up every day in the widget.
Example:
If i have three daily events named:
event1
event2
event3

and a event4 scheduled for 5 days from now , in the widget i will see:
event1
event2
event3
event1
event2
event3
event1
event2
event3
event1

in a 10 rows size.

Since i know this is a daily event i think it would be better see:
event1
event2
event3
event4 (day xx)

after the time of event 1 has passed i should see:
event2
event3
event1
event4

...

got the idea ? :P

This way daily events won't hide single events so easy.

Nicolai

Free adjustment would be great (as I have another widget that slightly covers up the calendar), but even presets would be nice to see.

@colchaodemola

This should be possible already, you can uncheck the
"show all recurrences" option.

For example, the right widget shows all recurrences, and
the left widget only the next upcoming event:

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

there is no "show all recurrences", maybe i should update to devel :D

Sure there is, even in the version which is in extras.

btw. Would it be possible to implement something like this to maemo desktop?
http://www.rainlendar.net/cms/index.php

On my Windows I generally have two calendars in corner of my desktop and I can change months with little arrows in top of calendar.

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Well nicolai, there was not ... updated from devel and there it is :)
Maybe i was using a very old version from extras since i never updated since Pr1.3 was released.

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Nicolai , would it be possible add an option to hide some event from the widget? For example , if i have a daily event that i don't wanna be displayed in the widget window , but i still wanna be notified (by an alarm) in the correct time.

Take a medicine for example. I dont wanna be displayed in the widget window , but i'd like ito be notified by the alarm on the correct time.

How about an alarm?

colchaodemola 2011-01-14 09:18

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

I tried that, but my alarm is really to wake me up. So it is a LOTTTTTTTTTT noisy and not very polite lol.
In english would be some like "Wake up son of *****, what **** hell you think you doing ... You have to work damn it ... Come on" lol
The calendar events/tasks alarm is very quiet and discrete.

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

@colchamodela
You can use one calendar only for this events and
configure the widget to not
show events fom this calendar.

Yes it would be possible, but this would change huge parts of
this calendar widget. So, a complete new calendar widget
would be better, I think.

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Could you just put an option "Do not display daily events" [by daily events i mean events that are recurrent every day]?
I think this would need just a few changes...

btw Nicolai, have you stopped working in sms message blocker ?

No, not another option. What is wrong with "putting all
daily events in its own calendar, and don't show this calendar
in the widget?

Thank you for such an Excellent application. I use hermes for updating birthday info to be incorporated in my contacts and this application brilliantly displays all birthdays along with age of the person (Awesome!) But it displays both first and last name in the calender. Is it possible to display only first name, So calender would show age with the name :) Thanks again :)

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

after the latest update of the widget my N900 does not show alarms for calendar appointments. alarms are visible in outlook of course and standard setting is 15 mins before.
i tried to synchronize setting option to delete phone data and replace it with MS Outlook data but it did not help.

nicolai 2011-01-19 23:01

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Are you sure the alarms are in your calendar?
I thought there is a bug with synchronizing events from
outlook, where the appointments lost the alarm entry.

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Yes - I am sure that alarms are in Outlook.
I even set the alarm for the appointment in N900 and it is synchronized to Outlook. But in other direction - not.

No, I meant, are you sure they are in the calendar application, because
my widget can only show the events, if they are from the calendar
application.

Maybe this two bugs are related to your problem. Syncing events from
outlook calendar, can remove the alarm setting, if the alarm does not
match which this stupid alarm presets from the calendar application.
If you have events in your outlook calendar
with alarm setting "15 min before" and events
with alarm setting "10 min before",
only the first one will be synced with alarms in your n900 calendar, the
second one will be synced without alarm!

Bug 9898: Alarm times are changed when calendar events are synchronized from Outlook
Bug 11556: Major problems with "acceptable" alarm times and calendar sync; losing alarms!

Nicolai

eres 2011-01-21 09:47

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

I wrote earlier that my standard alarm setting in Outlook is 15 mins before appointment. I am aware that other alarm settings do not synchronize correctly.
But even such events with alarm 15 mins before are visible after synchronization in N900 without any alarm.
I have no idea what can be wrong...

BTW - what do you mean by 'calendar application'? Is it calendar in Outlook or calendar in N900? I do not understand your question about it.

Update:
Events created by me in Outlook are visible in N900 with alarm.
Events sent by others and accepted by me are visible without alarm.

It seems that there is no common pattern for this - I am confused now.

Nicolai - please do not pay to much attention to my problem :-)
I will simply wait for another update as anyway I really like what you did so far :-)

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Great widget!

Just one question, I've seen the option to update the widget every time you switch to the desktop. The thing is that I don't need it that often and it's wasting CPU time & IOs, as I'm synchronizing my iCal just every few hours.

I've also seen that if you turn-off this auto-update function, it updates the calendar as soon as you tap the widget to open the calendar app.

So is there a way to manually trigger the widget update function through a shell command, so it would make my synchronization script complete?

Thanks!

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Hi MONVMENTVM,

you can try this, the widget always listen on calendar db changes
on dbus. The calendar app sends dbus signals when you change
the calendar events from within the calendar application.
If you change the calendar db directly,
put this lines at the end of your script to send th dbus
signal:
dbus-send --session --type=signal /com/nokia/calendar com.nokia.calendar.dbChange string:"" string:"" string:"" string:"" string:""

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! It updates the widget every time I synchronize my calendar, not more not less :).

Have you installed new applications (widgets) lately?

First thing you can try is remove the widget configfile
/home/user/.cal_home_widget
and reboot.

Hello!

Me again.
I've found source of problem on my Widget.
On one task (birthday) for next week was name with strange symbol (č). When birthday comes to widget (8 visible lines) it collapsed, and deleted all widgets on desktops.
Just for information for other users.

Thanks.

Thank you for reporting this!
This bug happened on all events in a prior version of this widget.
I did some checks on correct character encodings for normal events
and may have overlooked the birstdays.

I will take a look and try to correct this.

Amazing widget. However, when I choose 9 items, the home screen becomes a bit unresponsive. Can something be done about that?

nicolai 2011-02-19 22:51

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Can you give some more information. How many calendars
are visible in the widget, and how many events are in the calendars.
It does work for me with 9 items, without any impact on
responsiveness, but there aren't that many items in my
calendars.

Thank you for your feedback.

9 calendars, including smart birthdays, up to 2 future months of display. The 9 slots are occupied.

I have no events due in the first 8 calendars, and the 9th (birthdays one) is full.
