However, my calendar (not your widget but Nokia's Calendar application) is showing some of the birthdays but not all of them. As I guess you have some knowledge about events and tasks internals, I would like to know your opinion about what could be causing this part of the problem. Maybe in addition to the problem in the widget I have a corrupted calendar database? May this be impacting the widget behavior?

I finally figured out that the problem of birthdays not showing up in Nokia's Calendar wasn't a database corruption but the time-zone problem. I re-created all those events and bow it works correctly.

This is one of the nicest widgets for Maemo 5. Thanks Nicolai.

I use it in a desktop with DrLaunch icons that rotate and change to portrait, so my only feature request would be the ability to rotate the widget (obviously only if size is defined to be squared).

Thank you

his me again I test it again:

1.- Create a new Appointment in MS Outlook with default alarm 15 min before the Appointment.
2.- Sync N900 via OVI Suite and everything looks fine Sync DONE (no problems)
3.- Open calendar in N900 the appointment is there but without Alarm

This starts from PR 1.3 upgrade.
*OVI Suite version: 2.2.1.23
*MS Outlook 2007

someone have the same issue or anyway to fix it???

Nice widget. However it does not display the tasks overview like "3 tasks unfinished" :( In the options I have selected to display events and tasks.

goetz 2010-11-06 17:42

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

It displays all tasks separately, which is intended functionality. Have a close look at the events in the widget and you will find your tasks there. ;)

IMHO much more useful than the not very useful "n tasks unfinished" of the standard widget.

Biges 2010-11-07 21:06

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Eh, I prefer "X tasks unfinished", I use these tasks for these general "ToDo" items. I even like the way it is handled in other OSes - like something separate from calendar events.

I have just made an Icon Theme named AwOken.. and i want to change the date image of calendar home but i can't find it. Where can i find it?

A great feature would be to have what week of the year it is above the month.

Added a screen:

Hi, I don't remember the exact path of this image,
but it is the same used by the stock calendar widget.
Maybe it is in the theme folder.

It's not.. that's what confusing me.. i changed the hicolor one. The stock calender change but not calender home..

I use the icon:

/usr/share/icons/ "IconTheme" /64x64/hildon/calendar_applet.png
where IconTheme is dependent from the current theme.
The default is hicolor, and I don't know if custom
themes use a different name.

Ahh.. that explains it. I am using Humanity-theme but with my AwOken Icon theme.. So it picks the humanity calendar_applet.png.

Where does it get which the current icon-theme is? As i understand it.. it should be gathered from "/etc/hildon/theme/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" and the "gtk-icon-theme-name" string.

Actually it seems like it's reading the icon theme from index.theme. I'll update Theme Customizer later today to also edit that file.

It would be nice to have the overdue tasks appear as well. They could be in a red font for example. So todays tasks in regular font + overdue tasks in red.

Thanks Nicolai for the hard work.

Another one: Is the name of current month removable? (That "Marraskuu" text in the upper picture)

nicolai 2010-11-22 20:45

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

No, the month name is not removeable because I like it and I thought
it is useable. But I got so many request for customizing this I will
add a configuration option for this in the next version.

Could you add week or an option for it above the month too?

I am also facing the birthday bug. The birthday in the widget is shown a day before than the caldendar. I did search this thread and found some reference to timezone issue.

Anybody care to explain how to resolve this?

Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure about what I'll say.

I think the problem was solved some time ago, but birthdays entered before the fix was available need to be re-entered.

I'll be able to confirm everything works fine next time we enter the daylight-saving time (end of March 2011).

Really great app! Thank you Nicolai!!

I'm wondering if it's possible to add also "Tasks" to the "Choose calendar type" menu to open tasks window after clicking on the widget.

Thanks again for your work!

Hi morto,

sadly it isn't possible. I can only open the calendar application,
but I can not choose the task window, as it is one part
of the calendar application only selectable through the
menu bar.

Hi,

This patch includes:
1. shows past undone tasks.
2. hides completed tasks.
3. fixes the time shift bug.

You can copy this file to /usr/lib/hildon-desktop

Thanks.

Is this patched against 0.9.6 version?

Thank you geni4u!
But I just released a new version 0.9.6 which includes
this two new options as well:
- show/hide past undone tasks
- hide/show undone tasks
:-)
But I am really thankful for your help, as I did not get
this awful timezone bug away. I will take look at your patch
and try to include this in a new release.

Weird bug with the fonts in the newest release, roll back to 0.9.5 and the issue is gone. See attached.

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

Not a bug, an experimental feature!
I tried monospace font. That way event entries are
aligned when you use the option to show weekdays.

Would it be possible to use the same font but in bold? Today it's rather hard to read.

Thanks for all your work.

Interesting. They are aligned, but look off due to the font differences.

Use table / grid instead if it's possible? Mixing up mono and non-mono fonts makes it look messy in my opinion :-(

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem but after the new update mine no longer shows todays events.

geni4u 2010-12-03 07:08

Re: Calendar Home Widget replacement

nicolai,

While working on an Erminig reminder fix, I realized that the calendar database stores only Unix epoch times no matter in what time zone events are defined. What it means is that we don't need to add/subtract TZ/system offsets to adjust DateStart and DateEnd because these times are already in epoch time.

Based on this observation, I corrected my time shift patch against 0.9.5: cal-home-widget-0.9.5.patch and cal-home-widget.so.

Thanks.

Like the whole widget how it is! Thank you! Also undone tasks really good right now. Like the date align. Also possible to put the weeknumber behind the month between ( ) ?

Hi Nicolai,

I think I found a bug in the widget. I configured the widget to show weekday names, but tasks don't show them (events do).

As usual, your widget rocks! Thanks.

"All day" events?

I can confirm this for "all day" events only. I try to fix this.
