had the same problem on mine since reflashing over the weekend. Not a very good experience. Extras repo was active out of the box for the latest firmware so there must be a lot of frustrated customers :( Can't be doing maemo/meego any good when we have android to compete with.

python2.5-minimal has been pushed to extras this morning. After updating the catalogs it should be installing fine.

http://maemo.org/packages/view/python2.5-minimal/

It's still unclear what caused this but it is being investigated.

so how to install it on the N900?
as per your link, there are 2 types:
1)- free i386
2)- free armel

which one to choose.

Best Regards

You don't install it directly. If python packages are needed they are installed automatically

What issue are you having, and what have you tried so far?

Just got my n900 today, so I apologise for my lack of knowledge, I updated to the new firmware OTA, I have refreshed the catologues (it does that automatically doesn't it?) and when trying to install callnotify I get 'Application packages missing: python2.5-xml (>= 0.8.4-1osso8)

According to the package page, python2.5-xml isn't available in any of the device repositories. It should be pulling in python-xml instead though, so this looks like a bug somewhere. If you have rootsh installed, try running the following in X Terminal:
Code:

root
apt-get install python-xml callnotify
