I'd even settle for a temporary cached library, where the stored songs expire after a certain amount of time and need to be refreshed by a connection to the Rhapsody server. IMO that makes the service fully useful. |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
You can listen offline if you save to your hard drive..but I don't think you can do that on the N800

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
First off a disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with Rhapsody in any way besides appreciating their work to bring the service to the n800.
To start, I REALLY like the fact their demo subscription doesn't require any details like a credit card to start billing you as soon as the trial period is over! I'm not sure why people are giving the service such low marks for selection... I'm checked and all the bands I looked for were present and then some; I'm not your average pop-culture listener either. I like the organization and simplicity of the application, and this may very well take the place of my $12.99/mo XM radio subscription. Being able to play *any* song I want, save playlists, etc., is very important when I'm sitting around work all day. It also seems to be of a much higher quality than XM which ticked me off when I got XM and discovered "CD quality" was anything but. Having the DJs talk over the top of songs, heavy cross-fading, well you get the picture. At any rate, it's a flexible way to play your music and if you're concerned about listening offline I suppose you could time-shift your music via a script of the recorded line-in wav data compressed to mp3 to play in the car. Not that I sanction that type of thing or want to get sued! ;-) My biggest question about the service is if it supports "Rhapsody to Go" (the n800 is listed on that page) and if it's possible to sign up on a PC and use the service from your n800 on the go as long as you're not logged in simulataneously. Didn't see anything about it on the pages. Larry |

Has anyone tried upgrading from the trial to one of the subscription choices? Does your current library get migrated? |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
The service is really far more interesting than I would have expected for a DRM-enabled service with limited download capability. I just drove from Baltimore to DC while streaming Rhapsody on the N800 over an EV-DO connection.
The informational web links from the "Now playing" screen seem to work. The web integration in the other direction is potentially a problem for N800 users, though... The Rhapsody site does not recognize the N800's stock browser as a supported one. If I click through from the now playing screen, you can view information on artists, albums, and playlists, but if I attempt to click on any of the links to add playlists or to add to "My library" the site complains about the browser. |

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
There's no Showaddywaddy! ;)
The Eagles missing is something of a major omission - must be a licensing issue? As for the lack of Showaddywaddy, it must be down to good taste. (If you don't know who Showaddywaddy are, be very very grateful) :D |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
I've been enjoying the Rhapsody application - all the music I like is available. However, I have a question about the 'Search' feature. It works OK using album or artist searches, but it always returns a blank when I search for an individual track (even if I know the track is available).
Has anyone else seen this problem? Thanks, Howard |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
It's got most of the music that I want, including some Paul Bley albums that are either unobtainable or very expensive on eBay or Amazon Marketplace. It has a live album by the Simple Acoustic Trio that I hadn't even heard of before and that's available absolutely nowhere else. I'm very impressed. I might have to move to the States so that I can keep the Simple Acoustic Trio tracks.
Actually, I'm not really in the market for a music subscription service. I like to order CDs online, savour the anticipation while waiting for them to be delivered, rip them to AAC, so that I can have the music with me when I'm out and about and -- this is so last century -- play them on an actual CD player when I'm at home. While I loathe and abominate "jewel" cases, the requirement of physical storage the CDs acts as a useful brake on my tendency to buy more stuff than I can mentally keep track of. All the same, I might find Rhapsody very tempting if it were available here. I like it a lot better than I would have expected. Edit: "absolutely nowhere else", huh? It just suddenly crossed my mind to check iTunes. It turns out I don't have to move to the States after all. I'm just about to make my first iTunes purchase for 2.5 years. |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
If you sign up with Rhapsody you can use the Unlimited account both on the N800 as well as generally via a PC web browser, right? (assuming not at the same time).
Has any one logged into the N800 with a real rhapsody account -- does it allow you to maintain your library/playlists both via the N800 as well as on the web? O |

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800/ stereo out
This is a strange issue. I signed up for a paid rhapsody account (12.99/month). On my n800 it streams flawlessly. When i am listening w/ headphones or w/ internal; speakers no problems. When i hook up the n800 to my stereo reciever ie headphone jack to rca input on reciever, the music plays for about 1 or 2 songs then the stream is interupted and the music stops. When i try to hit play, it says content not found on server. As soon as disconnect the n800 from the stereo it will stream and play music. I can then connect again to stereo and it will work again for 1-2 songs and stop. I had it streaming through internal speakers for 1 hr now, so it is not the connection via wifi or the n800. Could anyone guess what is going on? Do they not want me connected to external speakers?

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
Drdoom, you may have a voltage or impedance matching problem, ie, the two systems being incompatible. The N800 *may* be encountering an overload due to it. However, it's been decades since I was an electronics designer so the rust covering those brain cells my be confusing the details...
EDIT: the earth grounding of the stereo system may be involved. Your headphones use a floating ground. |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
I really like the Rhapsody service but I have come across an issue with the Rhapsody free trial version. When I am connected to the internet via phone and I load up my playlist with music and play the songs on a random play, it usually stops working after a few songs. It does not do this when connect via wi-fi @ home. Does anybody else have this experience? Is there something I could do to fix the issue? Is this a problem just with the trial version? Thanking you in advance for any help that you may provide.

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
Thanks for the help lbattraw. It must be a picky Rhapsody service requiring ample bandwidth. I had feeling this was the issue. I say this because I have been downloading & streaming music with my data phone for well over a year and I have never had issues. Do you think this issue could be fixed in a update? I mean since the N800/770 utilizes the bluetooth connection with data phone so well.

Rhapsody on the Nokia N800 - broken account!
I subscribed a couple weeks ago after enjoying the trial on my n800 and today when I went to listen today it told me "account login failed" whenever I tried to play anything. It still synchronizes changes to my library when I listen on my PC (via the Firefox browser plugin on Linux), it just never allows me to play songs. I'm guessing this is some lame bug involving the expiration of my trial account despite the fact I entered in my paid account details under the accounts section. It won't let me delete the expired eval account and merging it doesn't work either. I even removed/purged the package and reinstalled with no luck.
Anyone else have something similar happen? I tried sending a tech support request to Rhapsody but they were not exactly helpful, saying that virtually all problems with the software would have to be resolved by Nokia. Yeah, thanks Rhapsody! No actual reply yet, just a big disclaimer before they would let me submit the request. Larry |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
Same here. Account has expired [even though it was supposed to be a forever account with limited genre streams]. Hate to keep pounding on Nokia [my previous rant was about Orb], but again, how about a little concern for the customer? How about a little testing? Sigh...

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
Forever? I don't remember that. Can someone quote directly any promise of getting something forever?

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
I think you can get free music there now, if you have a compatible browser. I didn't see the word forever, but maybe close enough for present purposes. Fire up firefox!

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
i have a paid to go plan at$14.99/month and iam having log in errors similar to yours. I am also having my playlist stop for no reason, that was yesterday. Also the n800, while listed as to go compatible , isnot , it can't be authorized so you can't down load to it. Very disapointed as i was hoping to make it work as i play music ovwr my stereo at work for 12 hrs/ day, but rhpsody stops after 4 songs in my playlist. Very buggy indeed.

Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
Rhapsody was an important reason I got the N800. I've been a Rhapsody subscriber for over a year, so I was looking forward to using it on the N800. I would like to use the N800 as my main media player, both on my home stereo and on the road.
After about three weeks of use, I have mixed feelings. The Rhapsody application GUI is not bad, considering. I can see all of my saved albums and playlists. I can't create a new playlist, however, and you can't actually just play an album or a song, you have to add it to the application playlist. The service can be erratic, however. For a whole day I got "Account Login Failed", even though I knew my account was good, because I could run Rhapsody on my laptop. The next day it worked again. Today Rhapsody won't load at all, even though the network is working and, again, I can run it on my laptop. Probably another problem with their server, which hopefully they will reboot by tomorrow. There are also some bugs. Occasionally songs chop off in the middle and advance to the next song in the playlist. The Rhapsody "channels" invariably cut out after a few minutes. I would ascribe this to network problems except that I've run the N800 side by side with my laptop on the same network and have not seen the problem on the laptop Rhapsody. Then there's support, which is really what's giving me second thoughts. When I got the account login problem, I emailed Rhapsody who emailed right back and said that all Rhapsody support on the N800 should come from Nokia! I called Nokia, who were very nice, but said that's crazy, Rhapsody is an application, they should support it. I emailed Rhapsody again and this time got their tier 2 support, who said that Nokia provides Rhapsody support on the N800 and I should quit emailing Rhapsody support. I called Nokia again and again they were very nice but said they could do nothing about the problem. They agreed to at least email Rhapsody. The next day the problem went away, but clearly these two companies do not have their support act together for a product that they are jointly marketing. |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
The Rhapsody people you talked to are basically lying. If what they say is true, why do they have an N800 available for their techs? I had a problem and a 2nd level tech got an N800 and verified that he had the problem as well. He said that my problem must have been caused by THEIR SERVER. (Not Nokia's server, of course.)
Sometimes you talk to India, and their techs don't know what a N800 is, or the ones I talked to didn't. One of the secrets of dealing with these organizations is, if they seem to be spouting nonsense, try talking to someone else. |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
i used to use Rhapsody on PC few months back, and they had a free account (forever account) that limited number of songs per month you could play. i think it was like 10 plays per month or something like that.
a "friend" of mine would get total recorder that records anything played through the sound card and capture the media thats hard to get for free. |
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
For the "Account Login Failed" error message, just clear out the playlist and add the songs again.
|
Re: Rhapsody on the Nokia N800
It would seem that the rhapsody client might actually be made by Nokia (or even more probable, by some company under contract by Nokia). I base this assumption merely on the fact that the user interface seems similar to the Nokias media streamer.
