Guide for first time overclockers?

Guys I've been think about overclocking and finally I've made up my mind :)
The "Overclock the N900?" thread became so large and filled with useless and offtopic content that it will take too much time to read and figure out how to do it correctly hence I'm asking for help or a basic guideline [ please don't link to wiki because its more confusing then N900 thread ;) ] for someone who wants to overclock but never did it.

Note: I do not consider myself to be a noob and I know about overclocking by reading that thread. Also I understand all risks associated with it

So please guide me to posts or links with simplest instructions.

One more thing :) What I want to achieve by overclocking

1. Maximum 850Mhz while browsing and/or playing games or on demand when I want

2. Lower voltage if it will save battery ( especially when device is not in use)

3. Minimum clock of 125Mhz? (Not sure since I read some folks have issues with 250Mhz ?

4. Way to revert changes back without reflashing ( of course if N900 doesnt die :p )

Thank you all for your help :)

me second lol !!

I'm too concerned about the life of my N900 so I'm holding off the OC until now.

Like chinese philosophy said, if you going to war, don't be a heroe and going in first, lets other going first then wait and see if he is okay then following his foot step. If he get killed then back off and rethink for plan B :D

You can't go wrong with Jakiman's guide.

Shall we do it HellFlyer!
I'm really tempting lol.. since it's reversible thing!! Without having to flash the whole system! And still able to switch back to standard power setting

Is that recent enough for all these peeps that are going to OC even with PR1.2? not sure if there was any major changes.

Ok I did it :D my N900 lost its virginity :p However for some odd reason ideal config didnt work for me, HAM was giving an error "too short bla bla.. and my songs and videos were unavailable , now using lv mode , wanna try starving as well :)

@MASTER I've downloaded from extras-devel so it should be the latest :)

@tmarinos what settings are you using?

shouldn't you be using the one in extras if you want to be on the safe side?

ideal worked for me but crashed. had to edit it to 750mhz. 850 was too much i guess.

is the lv mode overclocked or just undervoltaged? i was never sure what ulv and the other one was exactly

Well Titan uploaded it just recently and since PR 1.2 is out just a week or so I decided to go with extras devel

lv is clocked to 250~ 750mhz which is ok

So this is the way to test stability of this overclock
