There already is a /home/user directory on your phone. The standard file manager doesn't show it, though. To see it type '///' in a browser address bar or install Midnight Commander.

No offense, but if you don't know that or can't find it you're probably in over your head already and should leave installing and testing beta software to those who know a bit more about linux.

Well, if you just want to create a file, try opening xterm. Then type touch gstreamertest and hit Enter. That would create a file called gstreamertest .

I don't see what good that would do, but I think that's what you are asking for.

But the other comment is correct. You should probably not do this project right now.

there is already a directory file named gstreamer-010 u can see that if u type in xterminal ls -a and all the files will shown and u can put the file u want to put in ;.gstreamer-0.10
e.g. mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/yourfile /home/user/.gstreamer-0.10

Ok, jump in - but don't expect others to save you when you start to flounder.

Litlle of what you know about Windoze will help you. Linux is very different. No drive letters for a start.

Look, seems you're asking people here to give you basic linux lessons. You can do it better yourself with a little effort than we can here posting back and forth. You said you like the deep end. Well, Google is your deep-end friend. Do some searches for linux basics - file system structure, simple commands, etc. Maybe download and run one of many 'live' distros from USB stick or CD to get the feel of using linux in a no-risk way.

Then you can come back here and ask better questions.

all i am looking for is a quick terminal input to give me an idea but no one is willing to help thats what i thought this site was all about helping others which i have done with flashing. linux is new to me and giving me a bit of help would be much appreciated but some experienced are way too up themselves to help and give very sarcastic comments out.

The thing is that nobody here wants to reinvent the wheel - what you're asking for help on is basic linux commands, and nothing to do with the N900 as such. For these, you'd be better off looking for a basic linux introduction site (http://freeengineer.org/learnUNIXin10minutes.html may give you some help, for example).
