Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Where exactly is it or how do you install it and set it up at ? I've flashed with the latest firmware, have the camera app etc., but am totally lost on the Gmail app..

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
For some reason the new N800 image didn't include the new apps like the FM radio or the other two.
But they are all in the Nokia standard repository, which should already be in your program catalogue. If you go to the application manager, tools, update appliction list (or program list, I'm not sure -- I'm not in the English locale so my version says something else), then look in the list of installable applications and you should find camera and mnotify there (and the fm radio too). |
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Thanks for the quick reply, but now I'm even more confused or maybe less confused, as it's just not showing up in the repository for me. :( Is it under the "main" Nokia reository or the 3rd party one, or is there a .deb (1 click install) for it out yet or do I have to "reflash" and re-install all my stuff <huff> again just to get that app ? Has anyone else had this problem as well since the update ?

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
It's supposed to be in the 'Nokia Catalogue', the one that if you go to the application manager/tools/application catalogue menu says 'Nokia Catlogue' and Details says 'http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/' and 'Distribution: bora' and 'Component: user'
EDIT: If you don't find it it could be that you have it installed already.. in the application manager, select installed applications and look for mnotify. If it's there (instead of in the list of installable programs) then go to control panel, select Navigation, Status and tick the right box in the list. |
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
I found the Gmail notifier prog on Tableteer, it gives a one click install link.

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Whew, all I can is that was real close to wasting an hour or so of a reflash and re-install for nothing. :) After doing some searching and more searching and thanks also to TA-t3 and 9a6or it's not me.. Lol. Nokia have seemed to have removed it from the repository.. ?? Tableteer Gmail Notifier Link this is where the file should be, and this is the actual catalogue listing and "mnotify" is suspiciously missing.

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
has anyone found it? it's still missing....
It's not even here: http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/pool/bora/user/m/mnotify/ odd... |
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Does anyone have the deb for mnotify that you could post/email?
|
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
I used to see it in my application manager listing. it is not there now. maybe they pulled it because of issues?

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
I flashed my N800 and am looking for the mnotify plugin as well.
I hope if gets put backup at some point. J. |
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Does anyone know who I can contact about this at Nokia?

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
I emailed the maemo users list, and received the following reply. I am not sure why they don't put it in the garage...

The sw had some bugs and afaik they are working on the fixes. I do not know when the new release will be available, so please don't ask it :) Regards, ferenc |
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
For what it's worth, the notifier has been working for me without any apparent bugs so if there are any I dont' seem to have been affected by them. There are a couple of things I wish for though:
1) Unfortunately it's only possible to specify a single account to monitor. 2) It doesn't automatically detect that networking is turned on, so it'll wait out its retry period before checking, unlike e.g. the osso-email notifier. No big deal though, as it's just to click 'check now' of course. |
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Thank you very much for the follow up johsua, much appreciated to finally figure out what the hay was up with this app..

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
I installed and was running it for about a week, but noticed massive battery drain. Since deactivating it, I am back to several hours from less than one.
|
Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Since my last posting before Easter I've also observed battery drain on one occasion: In the morning I heard a strange sound from the N800, it turned out it was a low-battery warning. Charged it right away. Haven't seen it happen again since then, I don't know if this is just random or what but I'm now running with the BT shut off while not in use. Could be that it's not related at all of course, and that it was really caused by the mnotify applet. In any case this is not troubling me for the moment.

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
Indeed, it wasn't there the day before yesterday. This seems to be a newer version (1.3), the one I have installed is 1.1. But an update didn't upgrade the version on my N800, it looks like even though it's in the repository it's not in the Packages file yet.

Re: Gmail Notifier/mnotify where is it ?
I installed directly from the deb - the tableteer install fails with missing package.
I'd read that mnotify may drain the battery quite quickly (flat within a day) hence the reason for pulling it - I've installed 1.3 and after 18 hours with WiFi enabled throughout I'm still on 4 bars. |
