App manager won't install anything...

Hi there! I am using a Nokia 770 with Gregale OS2006, and I am stucked with the App manager which won't install or uninstall anything, either from repositories or from the MMC.

I can not remember when it started.

I tried out to make the installation through apt-get but got the following:

"You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
osso-clock-ui: Depends: osso-clock-widget (>=0.1.4) but it is not installable
E: unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution)."

Of course, trying "apt-get -f install" was worth nothing.

Now my questions are:
1) all of this is happening on a MMC image which I am using, while the internal flash image seems to work (still) ok. What if I just re-do the copy process without formatting the partition? (not that much of a pain, since I tried to have an internal installation as full as possible to have less things to be installed after the copy process, but...)
2) is there any way to fix it without doing all the above mentioned process?

Bye, Omar

Try removing the offending application. The best way is probably
dpkg --purge osso-clock-ui
and after that, do an apt-get ugrade, or apt-get install -f
until it stops giving errors. The application manager should work after that.

I get "dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 15372 package 'osso-sketch':
'Depends' field, reference to libgconf2-6': version contains '

 :(

There should be a /var/lib/dpkg/status-old file there, try the following:
cd /var/lib/dpkg
mv status status.bad
cp status-old status

I just flashed to Gregale. Now, the application manager connects and seems to download about 6kb when I try to refresh the package list. Then I get an error saying "unable to refresh list. Last refreshed list is shown"

So, I am unable to add any apps!

What to do?

Neil

That means there's an error with one of your repositories (usually a simple typing error). The only way I know of to determine which one, is by successively disabling each repository until you can refresh.

Ain't Application Torturer a fun app?

I can't rememember-- wasn't that submitted looong ago as a request to Bugzilla, ie, for AppMan to skip over bad repositories? Cripes, it's just good user-friendly coding practice...

Soft failures, guys, SOFT failures!!!

you can usually tell which app repo is failing from the last entry in the app manger log.

And, finally, you can also run apt-get update
in an xterm (don't need to be root, even IIRC - I forgot my N800 at home, arrgghh!) and see directly what repos are failing. Then proceed to the application manager as usual for disabling the same. Just to cover the possibilities..
