Re: iPhone 4
It may not look like it because i write in here, but I just wanted to communicate my emotional zero point level towards this and any other device currently available. It's a kind of dull Zen-like nothingness mixed with boredom. Absolute zero, not really the vendor's fault. This post is useless to me, but maybe it is of any help to you.

Re: iPhone 4
i would definitely get iphone4, and keep the N900 waiting for meego, after experience with meego on N900 then i will sell my Iphone 4G and N900 to get the real meego phone

Re: iPhone 4
Isn't it interesting to defend something that has no relation to you. Fanboyizm is this centuries disease. Anyways.
I am glad iPhone raises the bar. It will push other companies to do better products. Competition is good for us custumers. Obviously currently iPhone is leading the technology now hardware+software combined. But... But Apple has their "iOWNYOU" strategy for marketing and they try to make user as much dependent as they can to their product. With iPhone success they caught a good draft and they keep tighten the freedom. This method is far more unethical then any other method because it is hidden. They sell the device so cheap in USA ($200) but they will get more money at the end Nokia was worlds leading cell phone company. Until Early 2000's cell phones were basic with simple software. But with smart phones and complicated software, Nokia failed big lately. Nokia strategy is more like selling new different devices. models do not follow a linear path. It is almost impossible the follow. you buy an express than u buy an n95, then n900. They differ so much. And definitely they cannot compete with USA market now. They are dropping in europe as well. Asia market is still good. So they are still alive. Also now Nokia is trying to save his *** by MeeGo which is mostly driven by Intel at this moment. Right now strongest competitor to the iPhone looks like android based phones, just because of Google's power on software. We will see how that will go. |
Re: iPhone 4
"iPhone raises the bar"....hmm heard this at least a couple of times already in this thread. Believe Maemo5 was advertised to be the same.
BTW Apple claims the iPhone 4 "this changes everything.Again" |
Re: iPhone 4
"Asia market is still good" ..I have my doubts on this. My thoughts
Nokia used to be the leader at least in India [biggest market in Asia] but with new entrants, they volumes are eroding. There are close to 5 new entrants in India offering varied choices at half the price compared to Nokia. In addition, Chinese dumping of replicas of popular handsets are a major hit on the average user. With no provider locking, retention periods of handsets are very less here. Now with all the options, this period is even shrinking.I believe Nokia,[synonymous with mobiles earlier] have successfully been exploiting this all these years and were continuously refreshing with new models for stickiness and loyalty. BTW, Provider locked handsets were never a sell [volumes] here. This includes the iPhone. Comparison of current CDMA vs GSM [still 2.5G] subscriber base or revenues reported by GSM vs CDMA providers proves that point. Such locked phones are targeted for a limited or niche market only. |

Re: iPhone 4
First of all I would like to say there is a lot of BS in this thread; I will not participate in a “phone battle.”
I never liked Apple, but I must say I am VERY impressed by the data that Steve Jobs has given us. Now here comes a big hairy but; Most of what Mr. Jobs has to say about his products is marketing. Please keep that in mind. I have been into mobile technology since the mid 1990’s – I remember the VELO 500 running on a 75MHz MIPS processor. I have also been computer programming for well over 10 years. We have come a long way since then. I am almost never impressed by Apple products, and I have owned every iPhone and have returned every one. However this one is different; -The display is amazing, really impressive. But still I can’t use it to sign a contract on a PDF. -The “superman glass” is a marketing gimmick. Anyone who thinks differently is too gullible. Nokia has been pulling that for a while with their 88xx phones. -I haven’t seen any specs on the processor/frequency so I cannot comment on that. -The front facing camera is great, how it will be implemented is the deciding factor. -The rear camera and flash is not impressive to me. -I think the form factor is excellent for a phone with no physical keyboard. -Let’s see if the video is truly HD. -Who cares about a gyroscope? I can think of so many other things I would rather have. I have some issues with the N900 (lack of portrait mode, small things such as that) But when it comes down to basics, the iPhone 4 is great, is it better than the N900? No. Steve Jobs addressed this issue at D8 (Which I attended). Products like the iPhone/iPad are for people who don’t need the full use of a computer just the basics (in so many words). The iPhone 4 blows a lot of things out of the water as a phone. As a mobile internet device – the N900 cannot be beat thus far. One thing that got me is when the iPhone 4 was lost/stolen – the girlfriend of the man who had it plugged it in to iTunes and that is how Apple recovered it. I am not even going to touch on the irony of big brother and Apple. The iPhone 4 has its shortcomings, just as the N900 does – but the iPhone 4 shortcomings are much more dramatic. Many of my friends can use my N900 charger to charge their phones; my iPhone friends don’t have that luxury. A fixed battery, dependency on the App Store, dependency on iTunes, etc. I was at the barber today, I VNCed into my home computer, and started downloading torrents while I was getting my hair cut. I had a client sign a NDCA contract yesterday on a PDF on my N900 (using a SpacePen stylus). The iPhone 4 does kick major butt – it has better hardware than the N900 (captive touch screen and lack of keyboard debatable), more App’s from the App store. But at the end of the day it is just a smart phone – a great one at that. I am truly impressed, and hopefully the specs that Jobs stated are true. But I am not going to give up my N900 any time soon, the iPhone 4 is great for the masses – but not for me. I don’t have iTunes on my computer and I don’t want it. There is no comparing the N900 to the iPhone 4. Two different devices for two different purposes. There is no debating that the hardware of the iPhone 4 is superior (and newer). When it comes down to it – it isn’t a question on what phone is better, it is a question what device fits your needs better. FYI: My provider is AT&T |
Re: iPhone 4
i don't know if this is true but i have heard that it does not come with 3G connection as it drains the battery. i could be wrong tho.

Re: iPhone 4
I am pretty sure the next meego device to be announced in september is going to be the ultimate nokia flagship. Dont fall for the iphone.

Re: iPhone 4
I never owned a iPhone and love my N900 but
a) iPhone seems to have bigger resolution (I would like a bigger screen as well) b) iPhone has no qwertz keyboard which I would realy miss c) iPhones usability is probably much better then N900. If Nokia would look at all the brainstorms it would be a match d) iPhones here are at 40% over the price of N900. So I think to be fair comparing products you must also take the price into consideration. e) having to depend on iTunes is not nice. But for someone who bought his music on iTunes never owning a iPhone or iPod it's a hassle to get the music to the N900 f) Just using the build in media player of the N900 makes you long for a iPhone. Has anyone at Nokia ever tried to simply add a song to a playlist. I still don't get it how its done. (I want to click on a song - choose Add to playlist - choose the playlist - end of story) Regards Markus |

[edit] found it "wish to buy iPhone as a gift, the prices are $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). In CA, MA, and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone." http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/ (small print at bottom) |

"Iphone 4. It Changes Everything. Again*"
*NB: Only changes everything if you've been stuck in a dark room for the past 2 years I love how they squared it off and made it look very much like a HTC device. you won't be branded as sheep anymore because people won't know its an apple device. god damn I hate how a company with a 7% market share has such a huge profit share and not one intelligent person sees how wrong that is. |
Re: iPhone 4
But the most frustrating thing about Nokia right now is that they create groundbreaking hardware that puts others to shame but then have a shoddy SDK and no commercial motivation for developers.
Apple got something right. The gave you "enough" hardware but, out of the box, a better user experience and a platform that cannot help but move forwards commercially. If Nokia would combine its hardware development with some good aesthetics, a user-friendly SDK and a real marketplace, the market share would change dramatically. Nokia are frustrating to the point of absurdity. I have been more or less loyal to Nokia over the years (a P990i being the most significant breakaway) and I love the potential of their devices but, without a serious change in the way they do business, they will fall flat on their arses in the smartphone/MID markets. If they are only interested in Symbian feature-phone devices then they should bow out gracefully. Come on Nokia, get it right. Just once! |

Re: iPhone 4
Once again there's just nothing in the new iPhone to catch my fancy.
- Boring looks: I think the general appearance has already "worn out". There's a reason why they changed the MacBook appearance as well. - No new technology or software based innovations. - No wow factor about anything! (- No physical keyboard :CC) |
Re: iPhone 4
No cjp, maybe not. But look how well they have done the old tech.
The video call client (even with its wifi limitation) is a work of art. N900 version simply doesn't compare. The physical appearance is ok. Nothing new. Those little protectors are going to be popular but there are already aftermarket versions. The screen is nice and the resolution is easier on the eye but not groundbreaking. I agree that there is little new here but there's nothing wrong with admitting that they "borrow" heavily from innovators and then make it pretty and shiny. Let's face it; that's what Apple do. And a lot of people buy it so a lot of people develop for it. It's all a bit "meh" but my next device is likely to be an iPhone 4 or possibly a new Bada device. For now, I am happy with the N900 and I'll keep it for various purposes but I could see my everyday device being something more mainstream. I am a geek but I like to play with toys. iPhone 4 is the best toy out there right now. |

Re: iPhone 4
Nothing special with the iphone 4. I prefer my n900. usb host mode, usb storage 32gb. plug and play. no itunes crap. i prefer so much nokia n900's freedom, i go on youtube watch video. With tv-out cable i watch movies in EXCELLENT quality. (i've read someone said that quality was ugly, come on change your TV) there is so much other things that i can with N900 and i can't with iphone. The only thing i miss is: 3g voice call.
I will NEVER give my N900 for a iphone 4. i use n900 as a computer, iphone is made for people who like to show their new hich-tech device and says like "hi man, look at my phone! it has a gyrosh*t, crazy isn't it?!".... PS: xxxxts you're definitly true, thanks : http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=250 |
Goodbye N900. Say hello to iPhone iOS 4!
I like my N900, however the people at Nokia are way to inconsistent with follow up. It seems that Meego and the N8, X6 are the phones that they want to focus on for now, which to me is lame, since there was so much hype on this device"Ground Breaking?" Google Nexus one and most of the android community have starting seeing flash 10, consistent updates already. All I SEE in this community are how too's and why's if this phone is so great why is Nokia not working harder to make it the greatest? We all paid a lot of money for this device, i WAS under the impression that this phone would be the god of phones. Yes I know its a "tablet" as some of you would say well whatever you want to call it, this device is a BIG FAIL! At least Apple is always improving their Technology. Goodnight and good luck, it has been a pleasure, hope all of you are successful with your N900.
