Re: Goodbye N900 say hello too Iphone ios 4!
N900 is a phone but ios4 is just an OS.
And I fell sick (again) when I see this kind of title. |

Okay, it is time that the moderators ACT and DELETE these threads.

Nokia you need to SELL your products.. Meego alone is far more impressive then iOS4. The tablets shown at computex blow anything on the market away. Hire a hype man if your CEO doesn't have an personality.. :( |

Re: iPhone 4
Nothing wrong with the new iphone - Apple is to phones like Blizzard is to gaming, totally polished but not very innovative. Its suited to their market segment.
>> I prefer my n900. usb host mode, usb storage 32gb. plug and play. Sorry I LOLed at this - hyperbole much ? usb host mode is not even OUT yet. As indicated by MohammadAG(?) it doesnt following USB spec so you have no idea what the compatibility is like - only external storage has been demostrated so far. For all you know most usb peripherals may not even work. I hope it will, but this has not been demosntrated yet. (I still love the work though, its uber if they can get good compatibility, but you cannot claim this as a "feature" of the phone because Nokia did NOT provide this) |

Lol, it is not a waste. It is a message to Nokia. They really need to get their act together. The sad part about N900 is that a year from now no one will even remember it but just mention iPhone and people including us will remember them all.

Don't bother the community on this forum with such things, they are not cunstructive at all. You can't achieve anything by trolling the Maemo forums, as they are not read by Nokia officially. |

Its a bit harsh to give this guy abuse for commenting on how he's feeling.
Sure he's getting rid of the phone we like with the replacement being the equivalent of Hitlers SS but thats not a reason to abuse him. After looking at the iPhone4 its not for me and the iPhone never has been, but theres a reason its destroying everything else and that is purely down to simplicity, I can't knock a product that offers that. However, do be aware what your getting when you by the iPhone4: - iAds - VideoCall only supports WiFi - Products hardware is fairly mediocre - Apple are against you doing what you want with their product Either way, good luck fella :) |
Re: Goodbye N900 say hello too Iphone ios 4!
It's perfectly fine that people voice their opinions about the equipment they paid hard earned money for. If you prefer the iphone 4 then good luck to you. Though personally I feel the thread should be in the competitors section, or maybe comblned with others into a leaving thread.
Who I would ban are the people who hide behind tags, if you're not man enough to write it under your name then writing "op is a douche" in a tag says everything about you and not the op. |
Re: Goodbye N900 say hello too Iphone ios 4!
Moderation here is just facepalm all the way. After reading really informative and good forums like hydrogenaudio and Doom9 where discussion is quite moderated this place looks terrible. Itīs just unbearable amount of noise coming every direction to every discussion. I would not be amazed if so called productive users or people who are able to have good discussion hide in developers mail list and irc. This place is just sometimes horror-show of human stupidity.

Re: Goodbye N900 say hello too Iphone ios 4!
this place used to be a constructive and interesting environment for me. However, the influx of clueless endusers "masses" has negatively affected the mood and content of this place. Time for a strict policy and heavy moderation.

Re: Goodbye N900 say hello too Iphone ios 4!
Isn't it ironic that the major features of iOS4 are:
- multitasking - video calling What is just what I can do for months on my N900... |
Re: iPhone 4
Its Apple... Its ****.

Re: iPhone 4
I love the inclusion of the gyroscope, it will add to gaming a great deal, and apple has the presence to see the feature used.
I am disappointed that the screen is still so small, that high-res will be great for media, but unusable for productivity apps because it is so small: http://jedibeeftrix.wordpress.com/20...-tablet-phone/ |
Re: iPhone 4
Apple products "just work" (apart from the early ipad wifi failure)
Nokia has video calling *great* - My wife (who is not an apple fan) asked me for my opinion on the iPhone 4 (I am an Apple hater). My response. Well it is good. I would buy it right away for USD 400 (without having to get a contract). The thing that I am sure the video calling will "just work" I told her I have video calling on my N900 too. But my guess is that it will NOT "just work" I opened her XP machine - checked that she has the latest version of skype. Called her from the N900 with video. It rang - she answered with video - nada - nothing - only audio. The reverse - she called me with video from her xp machine my computer was ringing - not my N900. Went to logg of skype from my computer - then she called me again with video transferred to voicemail. Rebooted my N900 - nothing nada - no video call no audio call. Once I tried the gtalk video call and the image quality was substandard to say the least I am pretty sure we would have been able to get it going. but it does not "just work". This is typical Nokia. I had the N95-8GB which I loved to bits and pieces. But the video in high res would not record properly because the mass storage was too slow (WTF!?!) It took me almost half a day to get the map loader working  When I got my N900 one of the things I was really looking forward to was the UPNP and TV out. It took Nokia 6 months to make it work. I love my N900* - My next phone will probably be another Nokia - perhaps the N8 or the next Meego or both - but I can understand why people buy Apple products *The things I love: * SIP calling * plays almost all videos * TV out * now mostly works with UPNP * full skype integration (perhaps in 6 months video will "just work") * cool programms that go deep in to the heart of the device |
Re: Goodbye N900. Say hello to iPhone iOS 4!
Mine is completely dead. USB port not working so can't charge it. Sent it in for repairs and they claim it has moisture damage. Sounds like an excuse not to fix it. Never had mositure damage on any other device and there have been many reports of faulty usb ports. $625 thrown down the drain. Don't think I will be getting another Nokia device ever unless the meego device is the most amazing thing ever (and even then I doubt I will be getting it).

Re: iPhone 4
77h, try to disable and enable skype account in n900 and after enabling it check that you have "display video calling option" enabled in contacts settings(from top menubar)

Re: iPhone 4
I agree...I think I'll go for an iPhone as its improved considerably with the flash camera, multitasking, good lcd and higher resolution....I've always had Nokias (since 1997!) but I'm just getting p*ssed off with them as they're not putting up any challenge!!! They delay and delay and delay and let down people who have N900's as they will not support Meego on it and btw, where's my OVI maps?????????? :(
|
Re: iPhone 4
on the one hand we have a thread where people are complaining about lack of flash 10 for the n900 and on the other hand there are those who are thinking of changing to the iphone which has no flash at all..
am i supposed to understand that? |

e) having to depend on iTunes is not nice. But for someone who bought his music on iTunes never owning a iPhone or iPod it's a hassle to get the music to the N900 Regards Markus[/QUOTE] simply get the free salling media sync programm on your pc, its totally wasy to get your itunes music to the n900 through that. concerning playlists: easiest way is to create the playlist on itunes and transfer it to the n900 using salling media sync |
Re: iPhone 4
@slender - thanks I do have the option display video calling option selected. I can also see - skype call with video - the problem is just that it does not just work - i will try it with another computer and see - perhaps it is my wifes computer, my wifes skype, my wifes operating system. you also see with my response that it is a lot easier for apple to make it "just work" as at first it will only be OS4 to OS4...

Re: Goodbye N900. Say hello to iPhone iOS 4!
iPhone 4.0 basically just catch up to what N900 have....like better screen resolution....5MP pixel cam HD recording?? Well, from what i seen...it didn't look HD to me. Focus and LED flash?? N900 already have that. What else? Video call...N900 have that. Front facing and back camera?? OKAY? Almost like they're copying what N900 have. Multitasking?? LOL.
I mean if iPHONE 4.0 and N900 came out the same time...i'll definitely get the iPHONE 4.0 but it seems like iPHONE 4.0 is just catching to technology. Imagine the NEXT N900...what's it going to be like?? Technology wise...definitely better?? Of course. One thing i like about N900 is the keyboard....flash....and panarama desktop. I look at iPHONE multitask...and they don't offer that kind of desktop where you can see everything on ONE SCREEN. Open programs will appear open, not icons at the bottom. So i am holding off the N900 until it gets old...then i'll probably switch to either iPHONE 4.0 or the next N900. But for now...technology wise...iPHONE 4.0 aint no better. |
Re: Goodbye N900. Say hello to iPhone iOS 4!
I will buy one if there are android 2.2 on iphone 4 :D

Re: iPhone 4
I figure its a nice step, but since i got a phone/mobile computer that I'm happy with, its not much of an issue. I really like what I can do with the N900, particularly the "conversation" feature- I can simply bounce around and keep in touch and not really think too much about what means I'm using to communicate. the fact that the open source community provides apps that people want without any kind of corporate filter is nice too (i.e. tethering, other networking tools, etc.)
I don't like the media hype surrounding every apple press release. Its a freaking mobile computer, its not much more interesting than the last iteration of the iphone and it is simply keeping up with what's already out there. The iphone came out and even I wanted one for a little while, before I cooled my jets and waited for the right product for me. I couldn't care less about new phones now. So long as people are developing useful apps and updates for the N900, I'm quite happy to let the rabble pay more for crappy phone service and lock themselves into hardware and software. |
Re: iPhone 4
iPhone 4 threads merged.
Let's make this thread more constructive and discuss more on how Nokia can improve their products. It would be great if we just all keep talking about the products rather than beating each other up. If this thread continues becoming too personal, it will be moved to Off-topic or worse, closed. Thanks. |

Re: iPhone 4
LOL people are already selling the pre-order iphone 4 on ebay. some nice deals there. Ģ490.00 for a 32GB Iphone 4. but will you trust someone with 12 feedback.
Just phoned my m8t, he works in one of my local stores. he has told me the delivery date + time. wink wink. but if the phone needs to be activated would have to wait till date of release or might not work till that date anyhow. i can see apple having all the IMIE numbers locked till that date to stop leaks |

Re: iPhone 4
I can see it...the next N900 will have better resolution...better cam like 8MP or 12MP....Ovi 3.0....even faster processor.....
BUT....maybe too late and I DO NOT like Nokia customer support. 1. DELAY DELAY DELAY in everything 2. OVI MAP 3.0 DELAY 3. LACK OF APPS in STORE 4. NO REFUND for the very people that help buy your phone before it even came out...THANKS A LOT!! WTF!! I can sacrifice a few positive things i like about the N900 in order to get a better iPHONE 4.0 with better support. I do like N900 keyboard as it is easier to text...i do not think i like using screen touch to type. I do like about the paranoma desktop and YES FLASH is good. But iPHONE 4.0 has everything i want and more.....this is the reason why i did not sign up a contract with Tmobile in case i want to switch phone. |

Re: iPhone 4
Well as the title of the post says "Goodbye N900", I'll be selling my N900 and getting an iPhone 4. I got the N900 when it first came out with everyone telling me to get an iPhone, I remember thinking that the N900 looked so cool, had bags of potential and was different from the masses. Well, its been 5 long months and i've wanted to like the N900 sooo much but I just can't... Its a terrible phone with so many issues.. Lack of Portrait mode, mms, simple functions while on calls to name just a few. I know its suppose to be a internet tablet first and a phone second but I feel it fails all round. Its a shame cos I still feel its got a lot of potential from the hardware side of things and that its open source, and maybe with the usability issues ironed out, it could be a great phone. But with lack of support from Nokia, and although all developers do a great job with apps trying to make the phone more user friendly etc, it still does not cut it for me. I suppose the only good thing about me getting the N900 is that it stopped me buying the 3GS, @ least I'll be able to get the new version now. Adios Amigos!
