Anyone out there using skype?
 

Any one out there using skype? if so can you please give me a video chat? i read some where that in order to activate the video option for skype calls some one first has to give me a video call. my skype acct name is andraeseus. dont care who it is. just ifu can shoot me a video ring. i would do it myself but i dont hav a laptop or a pc with a web cam. i know sad... i paid all that money for a phone and dont have a web cam. till now i havent needed one though. anyway, any help is greatly appreciated

You do not need to have a webcam in order to activate that. try that thread.

Found my docs:
PR 1.2 is a must

If you would like to give your video from n900 to the skype person (I will need to assume the other party is using skype 4.2).

If the other party does not have a webcam enabled -> there is a possibility that your n900 skype will not have the video option enabled.

So I use this trick to make it work.

Option 1
1. Ask the other party to use "screen sharing"
2. Right click on your skypename -> Share Your Screen -> Share Selection
3. Click on Start Sharing.

4. Then your n900 will ring -> Pick up the phone
and you will see the camera option will "appears" on your n900,
5. Click on the camera to send your video to your friend
6. Stop Screen sharing (from your friend)

then you will be able to send video from your n900 to your friend.

Option 2:
1. Establish a skype call to the person (a normal skype call)
2. Ask your Friend to use the screen sharing
Right click on your skypename -> Share Your Screen -> Share Selection
3. Click on Start Sharing.
4. Your N900 screen will change to allow video call.
5. start the camera on your n900
6. stop the sharing


PS: DO NOT try to use share your screen -> Full Screen because the call will be aborted.

My skype is on my N900 :D
Once you accept the call you can go to Option-> enable video.

lmfaoooooo that was funy. i actually did my first vid chat with the n900 today. it was awesome!@!! waay better than on my n95. once it got up and loaded good there wasnt much lag or interference. the picture never got bad. it was always crispy and clear. in the begining how ever it was a bit choppy but it straightened right on up. i am now trying to get all my friends to get skype accts!

if someone adds you on skype.. will n900 allow to accept the request and place it in contacts..

Yes.
In unrelated news the update to Skype Beta 5 on mac enables Mac - N900 video calls now which for my all Mac household is great.

BTW i was testing skype yesterday with my uncle, he has a webcam in his pc. but my n900 never gave the option to do a videocall to him, i thought maybe my uncle didnt have his webcam on, so i went to my pc and did the call and i could do just fine a video call.
i dont know why my n900 wouldnt let me do a video call to him.
