need some advice on what phone to change to
Although I like the n900. After 6 months I can stand the lack of battery life. I am out on the road most of the time and the phone is nearly dead after just an hour sat nav and a few calls or texts. I dont always have the facility to recharge it either so I am thinking of changing to either the pulse mini (android) or the nokia 5230 and would welcome other members suggestions

Re: need some advice on what phone to change to
Just my 0.02 $...If you need constantly GPS daily in your work then I would recommend to buy proper gps navigator. These devices have gps but itīs bit like "do not use pocket camera when you actually need DSLR" sitsuation.

jean2323, Yes, but if you use it in car then you probably keep it constantly attached to charger.
.edit And the other hand you can share the load between two devices so that they keep going longer. ..edit And next user named windows7 shows how to make post that has information value approaching lim x->inf 1/x |

Go and bugger off to the forum of some phone review site, and don't troll these forums. I know this post isn't really helpful. Still, if you want the opinion of this community, go to IRC and ask them. |

Re: need some advice on what phone to change to
why don't you get the Nokia E72? The battery life is fantastic, it has good maps and built-in navigation.

Re: need some advice on what phone to change to
I use a nokia e72(and e71+n810 before that) for exactly this purpose and either tether n900 through it or swap sim depending.
e72 has EXCELLENT battery life, good voice nav, and is very good at txting/email(especially one-handed) n900 is much better for browsing, photos, multimedia, chat. Usually while I am on the road I am with e72, but evening or out on foot I am with n900. Both charge via microusb so only have to carry one charger. they both also use microsd, so I can take pics all day on e72, swap card into n900 before going out and email and upload pics from the pub with n900. anyway, that is my suggestion |
Re: need some advice on what phone to change to
if you are on t-mobile with your n900, nokia is releasing a tmobile friendly variant of the e72, the e73, quite soon, then you will have 3g on both.
When using my tmobile sim in e72, I have no 3g, but that just makes the battery last that much longer :) |
Re: need some advice on what phone to change to
I'm not sure I understand all this noise and buzz. Why not just connect your N900 to the car's power connector (cigarette lighter/charger port/etc) so that it doesn't run out the power?
On the other hand, maybe everyone is trying to get this person to regret purchasing a Nokia N900? tsk |

Re: need some advice on what phone to change to
Using GPS on any device is going to drain the battery quick. I've yet to own (or see promoted) a single GPS device that has a battery life over 90 minutes. You have a lot going on there, between radio readings, display updates and video back light. Not even dedicated GPS devices can do that on battery for more than an hour or two. In fact, I'd say with Mappero or Sygic you have an advantage in that you can turn the screen OFF and follow voice based instructions. Something most GPS devices don't let you do.
As for another device... Good luck finding one that can do all of that without draining the battery. Android is nice, but since it uses Google maps, you're limited to doing it in areas with a data signal. I don't think the device you're looking for really exists, at least not as a single all-in-one hand held device. your best bet is to buy a spare battery or two, or an external rechargeable charger pack and just keep using your N900. That's the option I'd go with. |
