Is there another way to to unlock the screen without using power or side slide buttons?
something like tapping the screen for few seconds and then open it, or using sensors?!

Also, is there any widget to lock the screen?

I'm trying to not use that buttons too much and use touch screen instead.

How many ways do you need?
You can double tap the power button, single click power button and select "Lock screen and keys" or slide the switch.

If you know your linux command line you could write a .desktop file to run a script to lock it, sorry I don't know how though.

@James, i assume you mean opening keyboard, i'm trying to minimize hardware interaction, like sliding...etc.

@JonWW, i'm looking for alternatives if there are, i don't want to use power and side slide buttons.

You can re-map keys to do things, maybe camera key (possibly a bit too easy to unlock by mistake).

How about making the phone auto lock when it gets dark (in your pocket) and auto unlock if it becomes bright again (taking out of pocket)

What else you need? IIRC we have some kind of telepathy app on phone and in manual should be instructions how to make hadnshake to n900 with just thought.

Exactly, anything like that, i want to be able to unlock it without pressing any "button", something like touching screen, or as you said take advantage of sensors.

I would pay for an app/hack that does this:

1. Make the camera protector/slider not activating anything.
2. No screen-slider/swipe to activate anything.
3. No incoming call or other sms mms or mail can be answered before the slider on the right side of the phone is used.

They had a program that does exactly this that ran on Symbian60 phones. It used the accelerometer and locked/unlocked the phone via gestures.

i dont like to click my power button to much and because i have a skin on its hard to flick the slide switch, so i made a lock button using desktop command execution widget to make locking easier.

I noticed when i click on save on your screen shot it will execute the command and locks the screen but it is fine.
Is there anyway to do this without this Desktop Command Excec widget?

unlock code is there too, all we need is a small app that can listen if phone shake happened;
check if device locked then unlock it
if device is unlocked then lock it
of course there should be a "stop listening" period after each lock/unlock.

any developer?

I didn't realsize how useful somethiong like this would be :)

So I made some shortcuts one for each screen, they work, but show up in the app icon list - don't know how to remove them - does any one else?

1 - what is the command to display the battery percentage?? 2 - is the command entered in xterm? 3 - does it stay up all the time even after i shut down and/or restart the device? if not how do i make that happen? 4- how often does it update the percentage? (seconds)
