MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Hello everbody I've tried installing the msn protocl but I have seen that there are 3...so... which one should I use? I assume there is no "best" 'cos there wouldnt be others if so.
Therefore do the have pro or cons worth mentioning? thanls!! |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
I believe Pecan is the lightest on battery consumption from what I've read around here. That is the one I use.

Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
well, there can always be bugs:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=212 I would go with pecan though, i think the guy that developed it did it because the other protocols had bugs that the developers were not able and willing to fix. at least the guy that made pecan has an n900 :) |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Thanks for the recommendation! but to be honest, And having issues login in with all of them them LOL
|
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
I am having the same issue,
Now when i used more protocols its even more buggy. Gonna flash my nokia today. I think i gonna try pecan but all are very bad @ this moment. Very sad becuase i like it very much to have msn contacts in my phonebook. When on wireless network they all work o.0 and quick Very strange |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Actually, Butterfly works for me without issue since PR 1.2
Haze is unable to connect sometimes, for no reason. Pecan sends me "authorization requests" for all my deleted contacts every time I log in. So, Butterfly is it. |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Slight correction; I'm the guy that wrote msn-pecan (most of it), but I also wrote the one used by haze (most of it).
So I know both code bases and I can tell you there's a reason I forked msn-pecan :) Besides, I own an N900 I can fix issues directly. Not to mention that I actually work in Nokia, so I know now to program for the N900 ;) |

So, which would YOU use? :) |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Since he forked Pecan, its obvious that he prefers it.
I have a similar feeling about it, although since 1.2 the bug that doesn't show your contacts when you press the Send IM button even though they are online is really annoying. |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Daneel: you mean when you press "New IM"? That's a bug in the conversations UI. However, there's a workaround in telepathy-haze that I will backport to msn-pecan
|
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Pecan is tons better, if not only for the principle behind it. The author is here, he's aware and he's worked in the FOSS community for quite a while.
Use pecan and support felipec however you can. |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
i'm having problems with all 3 - can't login at all!
|
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
All right, a workaround for the "New IM" bug is pushed in telepathy-msn-pecan 0.1.0-0maemo4.

Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
droll: follow DebuggingOnN900, otherwise we can't solve your issues.

Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
felipe im have same problem with pecan keep prompting me old refused/deleted contacts.
it also imports contats without user/nickname as "no name" |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
I have no issues with Pecan, other than if I log in elsewhere and MSN on the phone is kicked off, it tries to reconnect, kicking me off again where I've just logged on. All the other protocols handle it correctly - msn-butterfly too, if I remember correctly - is this an easy fix in Pecan, felipec?

Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
I have notices another thing. I have 2 msn accounts.
1 x hotmail account 1x gmail account, MSN-enabled vía PassPort. The latter seems to have issues login in with all the 3 protocols. Is it a coincidence...or not? |
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
I got a problem, I used to use Pecan but when I download "telepathy-msn-pecan 0.1.0-0maemo4. " lastest version now it doesn't want to connect, said inmediatly "network problem" and if I change to another account said that it can't connect that account either so I have change to MSN... any idea what's the problem or how can I fixed?

Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
Issue with Pecan: Signs in, shows "Authorisation Request"s for all my deleted contacts and doesn't show any contact online. So pretty useless right now and I don't know why.
|
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
I had been using Pecan for a while and had even merged it into my Contacts but now I wan't to remove those Pecan entries from my Contacts' details and use Butterfly but I think that would create duplicate MSN entries. Is there a solution to this?

Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
any chance that video calling could be added to either pecan or haze?
|
Re: MSN protocols: MSN (Pecan) vs MSN (Haze) vs MSN
@felipec
How can we donate to this project? And is there any chance of donating for specific feature requests i.e. Video Calling? Thanks for the great app :) |
