TVCatchup.com = LEGENDS - full live stream UK freeview channels on N900

Afternoon all,

I have read the other forum for beta for N900 users, but have just logged into tvcatchup to have a browse on the forums, and low and behold, it offered me a low bandwith tab for the channels, this works perfectly on my N900 (a little pausing and very little pixellation, favourably comparable to iPlayer quality). This means I now have live stream access to all the UK freeview channels, eat that cut down service iPhone users :) :).

I am a happy man now, can watch World Cup while out and about, happy days.

EDIT:-
This seems to be a BETA which is only open to certain SP's, I am on SKY, but do not know which other SPs are taking part, good luck though, it is good!

Used it yeasterday to watch argentina game via 3G, was ok, still too stuttery/joggy.... But maybe normal tv programs are better as less hectic movement on screen...

Apparently Vodaphone block tvcatchup streams on 3g so it has to be wifi only, which does work pretty well upto now

Hi!
Just found this thread and thought I'd give it a go. Connected fine and currently watching BBC News on my N900. Picture and audio are fairly well in sync. Using wi-fi via Virgin Media. BBC 3 seems ok too but Sky News was stuttery as could be.

Check out arajantie's script, I find that the viewing is of higher quality:

There's a little bit of work involved but it works every time for me.

tvcatchup has a specific set of cut down h264 streams for iPhone, thats why it works better on there, its been designed to.

FYI. The TVCatchup script which allows us to play the iphone stream on mplayer works fine on vodafone.
The beta streams are being blocked for some reason.

N900 handset UK vodafone (although flashed to PR1.2). Hi all i'm hoping someone can help or advise? I've tried TVCatchup and looks good BUT even on wifi it's very sluggish. Sound is good just video does not stream to allow good viewing. I've tried it through firefox and web widget. This is also the same for other video streaming on firefox. The best i've found is Youtude on the web browser. What could i need or be doing wrong. Any help appreciated.

Is there an alternative to this for the US users? what if i had a friend in UK register me an account, and then i use that information from the US, will it let me login and watch the world cup on the fly? or can flashing a UK firmware be an alternate route to make it work for US users?

DUMB question, I KNOW, but keeping my fingers crossed...justintv and all the other flash websites are horrible to view on n900.

You can try it but I somehow doubt it as we can't watch any of the US channels over here as we are greeted by the lovely message "The video you are trying to watch cannot be viewed from your currenty country or location". So you know what they say, what goes around comes around! :-P
But if it is for the football that you are after then I'm sure you will find a stream that will work for you somewhere.
As for UK tv in general goodluck! lol

already posted a thread on this.

if your having trouble with stuttering streams try mobile version of site. m.tvcatchup.com will stream using your media player on n900 instead of browser.

YES!!!! I managed to beat vodafone..
I have managed to get the stream to open in VLC by tunnelling rtsp over http.

I compared the address used by the iphone stream, saw that it is an HTTP connection using port 1935. I also read up on the vlc documentation and found that it could tunnel rtsp connections over http - therefore sidestepping the blanket ban imposed by vodafone.
So.. Using the port and the tunnelling i tried the following command in dbus-switchboard:

Code:

cvlc --play-and-exit --rtsp-http --rtsp-http-port=1935 --key-quit=q "%params2%"
This tells vlc to quit if it cannot connect, otherwise it stays running in the background doing nothing, tells it to use the Q key to quit (same as mplayer), and tells it to tunnel rtsp over http port 1935

I can say for certain this plays back even better than before.

Edit: Also, the connection to the stream is much faster - about 10 seconds or less on 3G
