Re: Help! Bought fake N900!

Firstly, sorry you got scammed it is not a nice thing to do. Now I would suggest you go to a Nokia shop or Care Centre and have them provide a report / proof that the device is not genuine. This would carry more weight with PayPal than from people you do not know on a forum. Even though this is the best forum for Maemo and has wonderful members throughout.

Good luck.

The OS in it looks like the OS that I had in my super nintendo!!!
No, seriously, where did you buy it? If you bought it from eBay, I'd say that 80% of sellers DO have a return policy and that you must only say that you're not satisfied.
Where did you got it from?

Sorry you got scammed. All I can suggest is that you do as others have suggested and go to a Nokia shop and have them certify that it is not an official N900

Re: Help! Bought fake N900!

Yep, that is one baaaaad mother of a fake.

The first picture shows that. And I didn't have to look at the screen.
The speaker port is way too long.

The back of the slider should also say "ARM Cortex-A8 32GB" on the left and "Designed in Finland" on the right.

Was it a "From Hong Kong" Special on a well known auction site?

cmon guys, any ideas?, i cannot get that document here because the phone is not official in Canada yet. so i went to some phone stores, and they didnt even know the n900 existed

Re: Help! Bought fake N900!

Write a Email to Nokia Explain your Problem and ask them if they can help you!!

Or call them!

It is the fastest way to call them

Can you be a bit more specific on exactly what kind of documentation PayPal has requested? You've posted screenshots of your fake device. Do you need screenshots of the real N900? If so, Google image search will probably give you what you need, but I expect that if you requested specific screens here you'd be accommodated.

Also, quipper8's link to the N900-Style will probably assist you.

Yes, the Ovi Maps alarm clock is quite nice, I think.

Re: Help! Bought fake N900!

How about scans from the original manual/packaging?

I'm sure there are some legalese or corporate info that may be printed on the real thing that are missing/different on the copy. Those may work as far as 'documents' go...

Re: Help! Bought fake N900!

this is what they are asking me for:
please
obtain a document from an unbiased, third-party, such as a dealer,
appraiser, or an organization that is qualified in the area of the item in
question (other than yourself), which clearly identifies the item as not
authentic. The document must specifically state how the item received
differs from an authentic item and must include a detailed explanation of
how the person evaluating the item determined that it is not authentic.

It would be good if someone could create a guide on how to tell a genuine N900 from a fake one, or at least if any people scammed could provide us with information on where they acquired the product.

OP, Sorry you've had this trouble I'd be pissed.....
As other people have said contact Nokia directly and hopefully they should provide you with documents proving it is fake for PayPal. Luckily PayPal fully protects your purchases so you should get your money back, happy days! Could you provide us with the location you acquired this phone so we can Flag it for potential N900 buyers in the future.

My tip for anyone buying an N900 online, Do it through an official website and try to avoid Ebay unless the user has an AUTHENTIC Pictures and a decent seller rating

Well, maybe they're competing with those iPad clones from China that we saw in another thread. Sadly, the iPuds (I think they were called) at least ran Android. heheh Also... $129. That should have made it clearly obvious.

Jeeez, don't they know how to use Google Image Search in the Paypal office?

Get on the Nokia Support site here: http://www.nokia.ca/home Click "Support" then "Contact Us".

@elbebe: take a picture of the label on that device (behind the battery?). I can give you a picture of the original one for comparison, there should be enough detail and markings there for Paypal.

I got it! I work for CPW over here in the UK, so...you invite me to yours, i'll have a quick look at the phone, print out my 'official' report on some letterheaded paper, or send paypal an email from my cpw email address, and we all win! i holiday overseas, and you get your money back (which admittedly will just pay for my flight...)

Dealio??

On a serious note, I can obviously tell its a fake, if theres anything i can do to help let me know, im sure im in a position paypal would deem 'worthy'

250Ko of memory/ VGA(240×320 pixels)/no touchscreen
And it was clearly mentioned : N900-style :|

If you had paid with paypal, if it is not too late, they probably have a service for this type of conflits.

Re: Help! Bought fake N900!

Does your paypal account link via credit card?

If so ring your credit card company and tell them what happened, they will put a bar stop on the money that they sent to paypal.

It will leave you with a **** credit rating, but in the real world credit ratings are crap and its better to have your money.

@maxximuscool: and how did you know that OP have read about that site? He said it was purchased from Ebay.
