If your lappy is downloading the file just fine, then skip the autoinstaller and do it manually.

Have you tried it while attached to 3G? If it works on 3G then you know it's your router not liking your N900, or something like that.

Note: I don't have a data plan and I have to drive to Las Vegas to get 3G, so I have no way of knowing if this is a reasonable post. I just thought I heard of someone doing this over 3G.

To be clear, what I said is that I've been downloading OTHER files OK on my laptop, not this one, haven't tried it, but can do that....

I don't have 3G or any G....as I don't have a sim card or data plan for N900, just use wifi connection at home or at work...

Thanks.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

I used it without a SIM for a couple of months, too. I could still do SIP calls and stuff.

Let us know what happens when you download this one on the lappy. You should try to download something else that's big on the N900. I have no idea what's going on. Maybe if we keep prodding we'll see a pattern.

Please tell me if i'm going mad or something.

I used the autoinstaller and after adding the info into the android.etc.item file NITDroid boots up fine.
When i browse the memory card in Maemo (2Gb) it still says there is 1.6Gb free?

During the autoinstaller process i chose my Mb size as 1700Mb. Now has this installed onto the internal storage (25Gb) or is it actually on the SDCard but i just can't read it?

The FAT partition you used 1700MB for is visible in Maemo, thats why you have 1.6GB free.

Ah thanks.

So should i have gone smaller for the FAT partition? and provided more space for the ext3 partition.
Thats the only part i got confused with during the autoinstaller.

Keep trying. This has happened to me a bunch of times, and a re-plug often fixes it. For some reason it happens more on my Mac. Anyway you might try to check and see if a process is using internal storage. If it is, then Maemo can't unmount it, so the desktop can't mount it.

Well, what'd'ya know....just tried autoinstaller here at work (have very fast internet connection...) and voila! installer worked great the first time I tried it!

Now, onto last step of flashing N900....

I asume you meen ./installer.sh 'size of fat32'. You just type the number. So if you want the fat32 to be 500mb it should look like this:
./installer.sh 500 'enter'.

I use a 1gb card and i'm not using it for my maemo os to store things, so i partitioned it with a 100mb fat32 and the rest ext3 :)

If you use the card on maemo aswell i would make it bigger than the 500 and less than a 1000...

Hopes this makes sense :D

If you're talking about installer.sh, it will do the rest of the partitioning automatcally when you hit enter, you only have to do the line i wrote ;)

e: i Would use autoinstaller, see this guide ;)

You need to slide your keyboard open and then reboot and the bootmenu should come up. Then choose nitdroid and it should boot if everything went well and is correct in the setup. If the keyboard is slide closed it will automatically boot maemo ;)

The white text is supposed to be there, it's the way it boots with the bootmenu installed ;)

It should be the newest release of nitdroid the autoinstaller installs :)

Check your bootmenu settup... You can do it like this...

Open xterm:
sudo gainroot 'enter'
cd /etc/bootmenu.d 'enter'
leafpad android.etc.item 'enter'
(if you prefere to use another text editor just type that name instead of leafpad)...
Try it without the sudo gainroot first, don't think you need to be root to do this ;)
Mine looks like this:
ITEM_NAME="Android (external SD, partition 2)"
ITEM_ID="android3"
ITEM_DEVICE="${EXT_CARD}p2"
ITEM_MODULES="mbcache jbd ext3 fat vfat"
ITEM_FSTYPE="ext3"
ITEM_FSOPTIONS="noatime,rw"

Try to do the autoinstaller again and see how that works out, it sounds like something went wrong in the doing of first installation?

dOES AUTOINSTALLER DO THE BOOTMENU CONFIG FOR YOU?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

It should.
But some people's bootmenu item files have been getting corrupted somehow. Post number 382 has instructions on how to fix it if that happens.

This happened to me.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

It seems like the bootfile saved up anroid.item.ext instead .etc??? Should I just change the file name?? If so how do I do that in leafpad. I cant find bootmenu in file manage.. I tried just to save it as the different file name, and when I tried to boot there were 2 selection for android.??AAAA haah I know this is not that hard

Thanks for your help with this issue, Dousan....

My file was named 'android.ext.item' and my file looked like this:

ITEM_NAME="Android (MicroSD, partition 2)"
ITEM_ID="android3"
ITEM_DEVICE="${EXT_CARD}p2"
ITEM_MODULES="mbcache jbd ext3 fat vfat"
ITEM_FSTYPE="ext3"
ITEM_FSOPTIONS="noatime,rw"[/QUOTE]

I changed first line to match yours, but after rebooting, I get error message:

get bootstate: mounting mmcblk0p2
on /mnt/new_root failed: No such device
command exited with non-zero status 255
real 0m 0.04s
user 0m 0.00s
sys 0m 0.00s

get bootstate: Invalid selection
choose bootup option:
2) mmc
9) start a shell

I do get the proper boot selection screen before this happens and select Android...

Any suggestions?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

I have two options to boot with android in bootmenu. For me it's the one that looks like this, that works for me ;)
(external SD, partition 2)
I'm not sure why you have those problems, but if you're not able to boot with non of your options in bootmenu and have to rename files i would reinstall with autoinstaller again and see if that would fix it for you :)

e: at the moment i can't boot nitdroid cause i flashed another zImage to get my radio working in maemo and that kernel somehow doesn't work on my device to boot nitdroid... ;)

@archimark i had that problem, i had a few before it finally worked for me. Before the autoinstaller i tried with vm linux mint and that didn't work so i partioned my sd card on my N900 and then used the vm linux mint to download and untar the froyo to my sd card and then settup the bootmenu and that worked. After the autoinstaller i've used that ;)
Try to look at this link, the partitioning didn't work for me with this method, but the rest did...
http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install
Somewhere in this thread kingoddball gives a guide on how to partition sd card on N900...
This is how i got it to work, trying different approaches, but i can't say speciffic whats wrong in your end. Sorry...

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

quite possibly your ext3 partition is too small or you do not have enough space in /MyDocs to extract the files or it hasnt mounted the mmc properly (check rootfs usage with df -h

vitamina 2010-07-07 09:06

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

I have enough space in mydocs, when i have to choose the size in mb i wrote 1900 ( i have a 2 gb card)

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic

check output of df -h make sure that rootfs is no 0%
