Is it true, and if so, why isn't solving that the top priority of the developers?

power management is a pain in any linux based os, and cpu is built to run at 500-600mhz so shouldn effect its life any but yes will effect batter- no major problem as nitdroid hasn got phone support yet

Hey Steve - Whilst you're here...
Is there any reason why 'Advanced Launcher" wont work? I'm trying to get back to the pull tab. I hate ADW. Or can you point me into the direction of a standard launcher? (original PullTab)

dj_steve 2010-08-02 08:26

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

what advanced launcher never heard that one. you should be able to grab launcher2 out of one of older rootfs. need to put it in system/app nd delete adwlauncher

kingoddball 2010-08-02 08:40

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

You wont need to delete ADW. Download from MarketPlace or google: Home Switcher. Works great. Working on NITDroid, but the Advance Launcher is crashing.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

check adb for info on crashes

Hello,

How do I get the Android Market to show all applications? I am trying to download games such as Raging Thunder 2 lite and other highend android games? I know it has to do with the identification of the N900 but is there a way around that?

Could somebody shed some light about how long the first boot takes? Mine has been running for 10 minutes (the animation stopped and restarted), so I moved the battery out. I tried it again, same thing, now i removed bootanimation.zip, so I have an android logo, same thing (animation goes for one sec, then stops for 4 secs and then continues after a flicker). Is there perhaps a log file I could check what's going on? Thanks

Hi,
I'm new to this linux stuff and Nitdroid.. i would like to ask if someone WITH A LOTS OF PATIENCE could explain me step by step how to install Nitdroid in the N900!?
And i would like to know if this works in the Windows 7... if it doesn't can i install it with some live cd of linux? using the terminal?
Could anyone PLEASE help me?
I've seen various guides and even the auto installer of the site: nitdroid.com and it doesn't work because the links inside the installer.sh are invalid!
Please help me! :D
Thanks in advance :)

It should take 5 mins at max to boot so if its taking longer there definately is a problem. Normally, reboot and it will work the second time. if it is constantly giving issues it may not have extracted correctly so its probably worth wiping the ext3 and re-extracting as in post 2.

Have you tried to only press it half down (what you would do to focus)?

The battery is draining much faster in NITdroid, i think it's something to do with not being optimized for running on N900. I'm no expert on this matter and i think steve did some explaining in one of theese threads i just can't remember wich one :)

@zylor i think the installer.sh is outdated. Use this link instead it's easy to use and just copy paste from web to xterm. All done on N900 no need for pc ;)

not sure about the minimized apps but the phone gets hot as the cpu runs at 100% all the time

post 1 of the annouce thread gives you a full detailed guide that can be done on the N900. Have that open on ya pc and follow each step carefully and you should have no problem.

Try pressing 0 and see if that boots it for you.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

Sooo a bit unsure what I did wrong now but.

I was running Version 0.0.5-3 just fine and where tempted to test out the new Version 0.0.6, so I did the upgrades in the guide for Version 0.0.5-4, no error during install, but I could not get it to boot... I then tried just to replace the Version 0.0.5-4 with the new 0.0.6 but same result.

When I select the new multiboot option (in my case 5) for the new kernel and all I just get a reboot and back to the selection screen I go.

Any clues where to start looking? I can't see any error messages that would appear and Maemo boots just fine.

I also checked that the file you create for multiboot contains all it should.

Thanks in advance for any help you might have!

Check that the kernel is in boot/multiboot (should be 0.5)

Yeah, that's correct. Can you check your item file for me. This is in etc/multiboot.d

You should have one something like NITdroid-2.6.28.NIT.05.item. Make sure that file is there and post the contents for me please?

If is not there, tell me what you do have please.

hi,

I got NITDroid working on my N900, everything was alright... however, after the battery gone while using NITDroid, the phone switched off itself.

strange thing starts here: firstly I tried charge it under NITDroid mode, but it didn't charge; so I switched back to Maemo and charge the battery to FULL, then reboot the phone into NITDroid, problem happens: as soon as I see the main UI, it indicates battery 0% and need to be charged, and the notification light flashing RED. Nothing happen when I connect the charger and phone gone to dead after a few seconds.

I took the battery out and retried a few times, even used another battery from 5800, but all the same: it looks like the NITDroid just remembered the battery status as EMPTY (even after battery recharged FULL under Maemo) and I just cant charge it under NITDroid...

thank you in advance!

Every time I seen an issue like this, a reboot has fixed it. If it doesn't it's likely that some files have not extracted correctly. Follow step 2 in the announce thread to wipe SD card and reinstall.

Seems like you were in / not /and when you extracted the rootfs. Essentially, you have filled up the mameo root and removing the un-needed files is going to be a right pain as files would have extracted into already existing folders.

Only real way to fix this is re-flash.

Well that is all correct too. Strange as I have only seen the boot loop with nitdroid if the kernel hasn't been there or the item file is wrong. Just to check, you are using the most up to date version of multiboot???

If so, I think that something has gone wrong during installing. Remove the kernel from /boot/multiboot and re-do

Code:

dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-05_final1_armel.deb
This will replace the kernel for you so we can see if that was the issue. If this doesn't fix it I think you are going to need to do a full re-install of NITDroid.
