If so, I think that something has gone wrong during installing. Remove the kernel from /boot/multiboot and re-do

Code:

dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-05_final1_armel.deb
This will replace the kernel for you so we can see if that was the issue. If this doesn't fix it I think you are going to need to do a full re-install of NITDroid.

Multiboot version is 2.5

the Multiboot files downloaded via the user guides are

/home/user/MyDocs/

multiboot-0.1.1.tar.gz
multiboot-extras_0.1_armel.deb
multiboot_0.2.5_armel.deb

So I guess I can't have any other version than 2.5

*EDIT*

I ran the code you gave me, first I got and error that was resolved by mounting the partition, then I got this.

Nokia-N900-02-8:/# dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-05_final1_armel.deb
(Reading database ... 20944 files and directories currently installed.)

Package multiboot is not installed.
dpkg: error processing nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-05 (--install):

But Multiboot must be installed? how could I otherwise use it when I boot the phone :p

Yes, that is strange! I think you are going to be best removing multiboot, wiping the ext3 on your SD card, reinstall multiboot and extract nit.06 onto the SD card again.

If you wish to criticise someones program that is fine, but do not criticise the developers themself or try to bypass the bad word filter by adding a few * in the work so we get the rest of it.

Waiting..." although i connected the N900 in Update Mode (you know, this U and plugin simultaenously thing) and i am using Windows XP 64 Bit. tried it with several usb ports what to do now?

Hey all...
I have just installed NITDroid, but I have a big problem :(
NITDroid doesn't seem to recognize that my battery is full. I charge it full on maemo, then when I boot on NITDroid, the led flashes red, and it says power off and the device shuts itself down.
What is happening? Is there any way to fix this ?
Thank youuu:(

run the following in maemo root xterm:

Code:

mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and
cd /and/data
rm -rf *
mkdir logs
chmod 777 logs
cd /
umount /and

reboto and it should be sorted

Alright! I'm trying that, giving news after!

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

Well, for me i finally tried it again, but i end up with the same Result.
I did boot into the Live CD of Ubuntu 10.04 (also tried native install before) , partitionate the SD Card just fine, then ejecting, remount and extracting the NITDroid Rootfs provided in the how-to.

Then, following all steps in the Discription on the N900, mounting the mmcbl1p2 as /and, and then i want to install the kernel.deb file, but then the terminal says that the filesystem is read only.
If i read correctly, we mounted it earlier with read/write permission with:

mount -o noatime,rw /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and

So, then i run the command to install the nitdroid kernel deb but then the Device says that there is no mounted filesystem oö

I even got the Message that the Filesystem should be read-only, how is that possible?

I am still using the 4GB SanDisk MicroSDHC because i cannot afford to buy another one ;-(

Formatted as following: 2100 MB FAT32 as SD
1600 MB EXT3 as NITDroid

their seems to be issues with certain 4gb sandisk cards

Then again, is there a way to install the kernel manually ?

dj_steve 2010-08-04 19:03

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

it'll not be kernel thats issue its installing the rootfs

Banschee 2010-08-04 19:13

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

yeah, you´re right, somehow there is an i/o error oö
I´ll try it again after trying to format the card (once again ;-D )

maybe try less attitude and you might get an answer. You did the install wrong so there is no point moaning at others.

There are issues with flashing using 64bit. If you read the guide it will tell you this and give possible work arounds. You can also use a ubuntu live cd to flash if the work arounds do not work.

Remember, if you are not confident in re-flashing, you should not be installing an alternate os.

the rootfs in android is locked down to prevent normal users from changing anything that will break it. You can get "super user" powers but not having an android phone I have not looked into this or know if it will work with nitdroid.

You can however change your root files in maemo. just mount the sd card to /and and you then go in and change anything you want.

On windows I would just use the Nokia Software Updater. I know it works on Vista 64 not sure about Xp 64 but try it.

no im REFUSING to help you as YOU didnt bother to read the howto correctly and therefore YOU screwed up YOUR device. then you proceeded to try and insult the devs so in my opinion your not worth trying to help as your not going to be thankful of it

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

Ok, a little help needed here.

I've followed the tutorial on Post 1 letter by letter exactly.

I actually SSH'd into my n900 and copy pasted every line.

When i turn on my n900 i get the Multiboot screen with the options of:
1. Maemo
2. NITDroid

So i press Q/1 and it boots into Maemo. It works fine.

If i press W/2 it starts to boot into Android. It shows loads of things loading, says "A N D R O I D" and other things. Then it sticks on a black screen with a flashing (i think) cursor.
I've been patient and left it for 5 minutes or so but it does nothing.

Could somebody help me by telling me some things to type into xterminal that would check if everything is ok ?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

@ munkiii :
I just had the exact same thing, trying to install everything using SSH...
I just flashed my whole device again and I'll try to install with manual input of codes

bzip2 -d NITDroid-N900-the-flying-world.tbz2

Okay, for now, i´ve got some success.
After having reformattet the SD Card with Ubuntu 10.04, the provided kernel file runs and installs fine (YAYY)
After that, i reboot and use the .item file, but then the device says that there are really several I/O errors ;-(
Makes me kinda sad i cannot use your Project ;-(
Well, then i have to wait until you find a fix or i wait for something else ;-D
nontheless, thank you for your support

Do you also use a 4GB Sandisk Micro SDHC ?
For me, it was the main reason i couldn´t boot into Android.

Android can boot now. I did a full reflash including flashing the eMMC. I reinstalled everything, followed your tutorial and did each step. Unfortunately, I still got these reboots because of the battery (red led flashing, and device shutting down).
If you have other ideas, it would be great :D If not, then, I don't know what I'm gonna do haha.
Thank you very much for your help!!
