Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

I don't know if it can help, but it boots in this sequence:
1. We see all these stuff scroll on a black screen
2. NITDroid boot screen shows up, with the matrix style letters falling down behind
3. While this boot screen is still up, the red led starts flashing
4. NITDroid boots, led still flashing, at first I can see on the upper left: preparing sd card
5. Then, it writes sd card is now safe to remove
6. Then, everything shuts down...!
P.S. During the whole time, the battery is red with a bar on it like if it was empty. In maemo, it shows up nearly full! I tried with 2 different batteries and it's the same thing so I'm certain that the battery's not the problem.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

Sorry for the multiple posts, but for an unknown reason, I got it to boot.
I shut my device down, put it on charge, then I went to get a coffee and when I came back, it was on welcome screen of NITDroid. Red led is still flashing and battery shows empty, but I can play with it now. Strange.

EDIT: After a couple minutes of navigating, a shut down screen appeared and the device shuts down :D

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

So i'm following all the procedures from the tutorial in the first post.. i think i deleted this pack:
Code:

rm /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28.10power37
rm -r /lib/modules/2.6.28.10power37

My N900 now is in infinite reboot mode LOL
Going to format and reinstall the pr1.2 in it from scratch and start all over!
For those who use power kernel DON'T delete those files or the n900 will do infinite reboots!
You have been warned!
Dj_Steve btw have you ever tried this yourself?
Thanks!

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

hi,

just set up NitDroid for the first time using the instructions in the first post.

I have multiboot showing up every time i boot up the phone, keyboard open or not - the only option visible is NitDroid, i'm thinking there should be an option for Maemo there too?

if i boot to nitdroid i get all the normal text scrolling up the screen quickly then it goes to a black screen with a cursor in the top left but not able to enter text at all.

any idea how to firstly get back into maemo - hopefully without reflashing - and secondly what i've done wrong that is not allowing nitdroid to run?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

To boot using Maemo, just press 0 (zero)
Then, for your problem regarding NITDroid, check a couple posts before this one, Dj_steve explained how to fix the problem!

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

I followed the tutorial from the first page and done the fix that dj_steve gave in this page..
but i think i've done something wrong.. all i get is about 5 minutes rain drop from matrix and won't go further...
is it better to do the process all over again? my initial thoughts is that some files are missing and it won't start because of that... i'm i right?
i think i'm going to do the tutorial again...
how do i format partition 2 of the microsd card and do it all over?

gtessier00 2010-08-05 02:59

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

Yeah you should reformat and repartition your microsd! That's what I did and now it's working A1 :D
Insert the microsd in N900, go in file manager, press and hold on memory card then select format. Should do the trick for format. You could also plug N900 in mass storage mode to your pc, and your memory card will appear in My Computer.
Obviously, you won't need to reinstall multiboot. Format your microsd, then start the tutorial of this thread at STEP 4: 4. Next up lets partition that MicroSD: first a bit of background info though
Then do all the rest of the process.
Also, what do you get after the 5 minutes rain drop from matric? Shut down? Or you get a black screen with a white cursor on the upper left? If it shuts down, do what I said (reformat then repartition and reinstall from step 4). If, on the other hand, you get a black screen with a white cursor on the upper left, then do what dj_steve said a couple posts before this one:

Try that, and give me news. Good luck! It should work as it worked for me after a bit of pain in the *** :)

Just a fast question

Is there a uninstall guide? just to be safe and don't mess up anything while uninstalling NiTDriod.

Not sure what could get messed up, just wanna be safe ;)

I'm wondering about this since I am about to do a reinstall of NiTDriod since it won't boot any more

Remember, if you are not confident in re-flashing, you should not be installing an alternate os.

Hah! I now noticed that my Windows XP is a 32-Bit machine and it's still not possible to flash! It still says "Suitable USB Device not found. Waiting" after trying several usb ports. what to do now? help please!

Format SD card if you just want to redo NITdroid, if you want to remove multiboot too
Code:

apt-get remove multiboot-extras

Hmm

0.0.6 Running good

Turn off the N900 running NiTDriod, power on with keyboard closed, getting to the Multiboot menu? Ain't it supposed to just boot Maemo if keyboard is closed?

No way to select Maemo default (just kernels I dont have) press 0 (Tho it does not show 0 as a option) and then it boots Maemo (Sometimes I have to select 0 a few times :S :P), guessing 0 is some default button that always is Maemo?

And if I turn of the phone running Maemo, it then boots Maemo if I power on with keyboard is closed :)

And ofc Multiboot if keyboard is open, it always shows Multiboot.

Working as intended?

If you booted Maemo last, it should boot that kernel without going into multiboot. I get the same as you when I had boot NITdroid and reboot (multiboot appears when keyboard is closed). Leaving it 30 seconds should then just boot NITDroid though.

If you want to add Default Maemo as and option in multiboot
Code:

sudo gainroot
cp /etc/multiboot.d/examples/Maemo-2.6.28-omap1.item /etc/multiboot.d

Good luck! It should work as it worked for me after a bit of pain in the *** :)

i'll try and give some feedback :D
Thanks a lot

Hey dj_steve !

I finally got it sorted. It worked with these codes you gave to me. But I had to boot Maemo, charge the battery until it is completely full (I used to use a desktop charger, and for this to work I had to charge directly with the nokia charger) then I wrote these codes in X-Term and now it works! Android boots and works very well :D

Another question, if you don't mind :D I have a couple problems with multiboot. If my phone is OFF and I plug it to charge, it turns on and multiboot starts. Is this normal? Also, If it's off, and I turn it, I'll get to the multiboot page. That's okay. But then I select my choice, and whichever I choose (maemo or NITDroid), my phone will shut down. I have to boot again, come back to multiboot screen, then select my choice a second time, and now it will boot!
Do you have any idea? If not, I'll stick to what I'vew got working now, it's so great !!!

I'll investigate the issues about the phone being off this evening and see if it happens to me. will let you know my outcome in the morning.

Multiboot does have a couple issues; when plugged into the charger it and you turn it on, maemo will fail to boot. It'll try to start but fail (not seen this with NITDroid but dont use it very often atm as I am still waiting for internet to arrive) It will also shut down after it first flashes the kernel when not plugged and needs to be manually rebooted before maemo will load.

hi,
how can i format only the android's ext3 partition without the rest fat32?

gtessier00 2010-08-05 21:15

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Help/Tutorial Topic - Updated

Why don't you transfer fat32's content to your computer, then format the whole microsd, then repartition, reinstall and put everything back? That is the simplest way!!!

This will remove all contents on the ext3 partition (presuming it is partition 2)

[code[mount /dev,mmcblk1p2 /and
cd /and
rm -rf *
umount /and
[/code]

Ok i followed all the tutorial untill the end and i figured that i was missing the final files to boot (after the: umount /dev/mmcblk1p2 )
So that was why NITDroid wouldn't boot!
Fixed! :P
Btw i've seen NITDroid all over and it seems to me that a lot of work is still there to be done right?

Give me more information on your problem and I'll see if I can help. Is it starting up and giving you the nokia logo then just switching off? Does it bring up the multiboot screen? What happened when you tried to re-flash?

I can confirm that when powered off and you plug a charger in, the phone will turn on. I presume this is because of multiboot but cannot say for sure as I never really turned my off previously.

I cannot recreate the phone coming on when it is turned issue though. Was it lying on it's back then you turn it onto its screen and it turns on?

this is what happened i was following the steps everything i installed multi-boot was reading next step screen timed out tried to turn it on would not work so i removed battery and put it back in loaded to the multiboot screen but listed no boot options i freaked out cause you remove meamos boot in the instructions before you get to this part i would have had i stroke if i did not have this rooted motorola cliq.
moving along i think it was a simple issue of not enough power so it did not list default boot mabye anyways moving along took battery out put in external chager for 30 minutes had same issue even tried to reflash would not work so i took the battery out again while it was hooked to usb cable and it started the charging flash after an hour tried again nothing so i pushed random buttons to find some kind of command terminal when i hit the back key it listed some things but no boot listed phone restarted and it had a boot to default meamo option i was so so happy so I'm okay now thank for your offers to help sorry about the run on sentence

Wow, that sentence was epic!!!!!

You will not see a default Maemo boot option in multiboot but you can boot to it by pressing 0. If you look a few posts up I explained to someone how to get the default maemo to show in the boot menu.

Is this problem known, or is it something i can fix...

Now my phone is on Maemo, if i reboot it with the keyboard closed, it turns off, then a few seconds later, the NOKIA screen appears for about 5 seconds, then the phone turns off completely.

Then i hold the power button again to turn it on, with the keyboard closed, and it boots into maemo. It works now.

So now i try and reboot with the keyboard open, choosing option 1 to boot into Maemo. It reboots back to multiboot, and i have to select 1 again for it to boot into Maemo.

Pressing 2 in multiboot always boots into NITDroid first time, every time.

When i'm in NITDroid and want to go back to Maemo, i hold the power button till the power menu appears, and i choose "reboot" (with keyboard open).
It loads multiboot and i choose 1 for Maemo. It shows some white text on a black background, then shows the NOKIA screen, then turns off.
So i hold the power button with the keyboard open, and select 1 for Maemo again. This time it boots into Maemo correctely.

The obvious problem being, it never boots into maemo first time, it always takes 2 goes.

NITDroid never has this problem, if i choose 2 on mutliboot, it boots NITDroid first time, every time.

So, any fix?

@munkiii no fix at the moment. it's just the way it works for now. The bootmenu-n900 did the same thing. But the first release of multiboot didn't it booted straight forth and back between the os's via the multiboot options...

So for now everybody is having that issue with double booting into maemo ;)

Small issue for such awesome thing as 2 OS's imo :)
