What you see is GNOME Power Manager working as a Hildon Status Menu plug-in. :-)

I decided to not reinvent the wheel and just modify GPM to use Hildon Desktop Status Area instead of FreeDesktop Notification Area. So, we will have full-blown GNOME power management in Cordia.

OMG MAGIC MULTITOUCH!!!

I've actually long wondered how it would be to use two mice as input for gaming and whatnot. Could be interesting :D

I'd love to see this as well... Cordia running on the N900 DE of MeeGo. I Can't Believe It's Not Maemo

Looking great, although IMO, I don't particularly like Marina's over-shiny gradients. (still loving hildon-theme-alpha, although I guess that's (c) Nokia.)
smoku, if you need someone to work on image resources for the themes, PM me.

+1
I am still using default theme on my N900.
If you scroll a few pages back, you will find that we were already discussing the theme, but didn't end up in any conclusion.

But since I'm thinking about moving to GTK+ 3 (all the touch optimizations and hildon features porting end up in 3 branch) these themes may be rendered obsolete and we may need to create a theme for GTK+ 3 from scratch.

I hope that new GDK backend and Cairo rendering would make the fixed bitmap Sapwood engine unneded. But if performance of default GTK+ 3 engine is too low, we may need to rehash Sapwood. Only testing will tell.

@smoku

Just to make sure you know!

This is IMPORTANT!

The instructions are WRONG! They have the wrong URL.

The command on your website says this:

Code:

zypper ar http://repo.pub.meego.com/home:/smoku:/cordia/MeeGo_current_Core_standard/home:smoku:maego.repo
When the actual URL is this:

Code:

zypper ar http://repo.pub.meego.com/home:/smoku:/cordia/MeeGo_current_Core/home:smoku:cordia.repo

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core

Just some feedback on the installation of Cordia.

I have the latest MeeGo N900 DE Build.

I have added the repo and updated the repo on my N900.

When trying to install hildon-desktop and hildon-theme-marina I get the following error message

Code:

zypper install hildon-desktop hildon-theme-marina
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
'hildon-desktop' not found in package names. Trying capabilities.
No provider of 'hildon-desktop' found.
'hildon-theme-marina' not found in package names. Trying capabilities.
No provider of 'hildon-theme-marina' found.
Resolving package dependancies...

Nothing to do.

Could you please help me overcome this, I really want to get this running so I can make a lil youtube video demonstrating Cordia on the N900 itself :)

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core

This'll be interesting.
In a few months, I can see N900's OS community split in 3(probably even 4!):
>Maemo 5/CSSU
>MeeGo DE for N900
>Third:http://goput.it/caa.png Meego+Cordia
And lastly, Maemo 6 HE (probably, depends on "If Nokia feels like it")

hildon-theme-marina fails build on ARM (segfaults), thus is not added to repository index file.

But it's noarch package - you can download it from http://repo.pub.meego.com/home:/smok...t_Core/noarch/ and install manually.

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core

It builds fine for DE, as you can see on https://build.pub.meego.com/package/...smoku%3Acordia
But it fails on Trunk. Have you added DE repository, or Trunk one?

DE repo is here: http://repo.pub.meego.com/home:/smok...runk_standard/

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core

I tried to install it , and there were dependency problems:

nothing provides gnome-mime-data
nothing provides sound-theme-freedesktop

however I ignored these and it did install, and run but does look quite broken, how do I fix the dependencies, what repositories do I need to add?

when I try zypper ve
I get other problems too concerning pulseaudio-modules-n900 but I think that's not related .

thanks.

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core

There are a lot of Cordia builds: https://build.pub.meego.com/project/...smoku%3Acordia

You need to be more specific on the MeeGo version and hardware architecture you tried to install to.

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core

I think most people are trying to install on the N900 itself and it would be a good idea to document the procedure specifically for the N900.

I would do it myself but my N900 died and i can't fix it until i leave japan in a week or so.

This is the point of the whole exercise, for someone with an ARM device to try and document the installation.

I'm using i586 for development and have no idea what is the state of ARM builds.

Hey smoku,

I'm glad to see you and Cordia back in business! :)
I'm still looking forward to contributing, but I still have two weeks of exams ahead of me, so maybe in the summer. :)

Cheers!

The default Gtk 3 theme Adwaita looks decent enough, and its engine is CSS-based. It would be a win for Cordia in my opinion. (And they are promising a darker variant in their next release.)

If it doesn't perform well enough on mobile hardware, we could still try to forward-port the sapwood engine.

I added the N900 DE repo for cordia and installing hildon-desktop as we speak. Not yet sure how to use meego terminal properly atm so not sure how I go about installing the .rpm for marina-theme.

I would be happy to document the N900 install as it stands atm :)

Just tell me how I can write on cordia's page :P

Thanks. There is no need to wait to start the documentation.

We can put the install instructions for Cordia/N900 DE on a wiki page at maemo.org. There will also be a developer's edition for the next Nokia maemo device so we will start a Cordia page for that build as well.

Well atm, I am stuck :(

I stupidly didn't install the marina theme but enabled hildon-desktop. Problem now is that I just have a black background with a small purple square in the top left corner :(

Seeing as my memory card cannot be read within maemo, I cannot change the files to use the stock MeeGo ux so im gonna have to put a fresh copy of DE onto my N900 :(

Ill post tonight with my results :)

Gonna test Cordia on the latest handset and tablet builds:

Code:

1.2.0.90.1.20110525.2.DE.2011-05-30.1/mg-handset-armv7nhl-n900-de-acceptance-1.2.0.90.1.20110525.2.DE.2011-05-30.1-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2
And
Code:

1.2.0.90.1.20110525.2.DE.2011-05-30.1/mg-tablet-armv7nhl-n900-de-acceptance-1.2.0.90.1.20110525.2.DE.2011-05-30.1-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2
Will let you know my findings and results :) Might post a video if I can :)

Yep fully agree that is why i ditched it faster than it took me to format an sd card lol, i reckon the graphics should be turned over to some of the school whizz kids to have a go at because to date i just cannot see this going anywhere.

Yeah I think itd be a good idea to have some younger input 16-20 years old. I mean innovation comes from the younger generation right?

The previous generation's problems are usually solved by the next generation. The way the world works, especially in technology :P

Well tbh smoku knows that we all support his idea and the Cordia project! :)

Why? If you're using and you want to see Cordia go further then by all means thank smoku but I don't see anything obligating stskeeps to thank him.

If anything, he was outlining areas where smoku may want to align things with meego going forward (since that's what it's intended for) and to take advantage of the community OBS.

At least 5, on top of the others working on MeeGo core.

But you'd know that if you paid attention to the project instead of blindly badmouthing them.
