Dropped my phone!!!! Bad =( slide issues now
okay so i am running to catch a train this AM and the phone (which before today) was pristine, goes flying and skidding across the pavement. the case flew off and luckily the phone was not scratched. however......
the slide now sticks and doesnt open up straight. and it has a lot of play now in the way it opens. i called nokia and they told me i have to send it in to the ONLY service center in the USA. which means ill be without a phone for over a week.... no can do in today's world! so here are my questions. 1- have any of you ever dropped your n900 really badly? and if so what damage did your phone suffer as a result fo the fall. 2 - have any of you ever used the nokia repair center in the USA? and if you have how are they? horror stories or praise...... please post here. thanks !!!! |
Re: Dropped my phone!!!! Bad =( slide issues now
So sorry to hear that. i had dropped N95 a few times, but the slider was intact. I think there was a youtube video by tehkseven showing how to fix sliderplay with tape.

I've dropped my n900 seriously only two times, no sliding issues. I don't have horrible horror stories, but moderate horror stories. Realistically, you're gonna be without your n900 for more than a week. I'd say plan on 2 weeks to a month. Can anyone else confirm? :) |
Re: Dropped my phone!!!! Bad =( slide issues now

Re: Dropped my phone!!!! Bad =( slide issues now
dropped my phone the two weeks ago while standing on ladder an trying to give it my clumzy hands mother :D ... anyhow the slider was a bit hard to open as if it's grinding something in it, showed it to my friend who is also a technician, he put some Vasline on a toothpick and stuffed the tracks of the slider at the back a little with it, he opned and closed it like 3 - 4 times, after that everything is back to normal, well even better, now it slides with no problem as if it's brand new

Re: Dropped my phone!!!! Bad =( slide issues now
@ddiscodave, Maybe your top part de-railed and needs to be placed back in its rail. is there more room between the upper and lower part then normal?
You should be carefull when sliding, maybe some parts broke, when sliding open and close you could seriously damage you flat cable connecting the screen to the device, resulting in screen visibility loss... I should send it in to nokia. or open it up yourself using an instruction video. Either way the damage is not a waranty issue so you need to pay it anyway. maybe its easy to fix. this way you can save 80 to 100 dollar |
Re: Dropped my phone!!!! Bad =( slide issues now
thanks everyone for the stories. keep them coming! i am encouraged though with the fact that not too many of you have experienced too many issues following the falls.....
now for me, i have an update. pantera1989 i saw that video a few days back and i attempted it last night. its a decent option at best but what will happen is that the slide and guides will get caught under the tape rendering the phone inoperable. I dont want to have to get into a habit of constantly disassembling this device so i decided against it. I did, however, remove the screen and I inspected the tracks. there was indeed a lot of play in the mechanism but i cleaned it out and reseated the tracks as best as I could. nothing at all seemed to have broken so i think i dodged a bullet. when i tightened it all back up the slider felt good and natural so i left it at that. i truly believe guys that the saving grace for me was my rugged case. i use the otterbox commuter case. it is bulky and so well made. well worth the 35 bucks. the case took the brunt of the injury but did not crack or fall off the bottom half of the phone. the bezel did though. (its a 2 part case... a bezel around the screen and a heavy duty bottom part that has a huge rubber bumper) since this phone fell about 4 feet and then bounced and skidded on concrete the corners of the case are focked but the phone itself is not. I consider myself to be a lucky boy for sure. |
